I think the lesson Bioware should draw from this is that cup sizes need to go up exponentially each release. By Dragon Age 15 we should be seeing breasts that overshadow entire cities.

...And we'll still see complaints about them not being big enough.

...And people will yearn for the days of reasonable, hot-air balloon sized breasts and wax lyrical about the days when women were not objectified in video games.

I must be an elf....

And I bet you are gorgeous too. Maybe they should make you the model for the elves.

Whoever came up with the floppy donkey ears in DA2 games or for any elf in any game should be shot, stabbed, drawn, quartered, drowned, poisoned, thrown off a cliff, and eviscerated for good measure. Why some idiot with a pen actually thought it looked good, I don't know, but it had to be some college graduate art student that says the smaller ears look like humans with points and not a different species, and totally forgot that the big floppy ears look way too stupid to be worth the effort. Heck maybe they are just playing a joke on all of us just to prove they can do it.

There were much better ways of making them distinct than popping on big ears, work with the eyes, facial structure, width and length all to make them exotic and not just pop the ears bigger.

I'll bring the tar and feathers.

Always found it funny that the english used the world elf for midgets, and everyone else used the term Dwarf. This all dates back to Norse and German Mythology. Guess, the English wanted to be different from the rest of the world.

I'm assuming you made that random yet somewhat funny comment because my avatar is a dwarf and it reminded you of that?

That and you said you wanted to be an elf - so in a way it does match your avatar by old english standards.

out of curiosity, what would elves look like in Origins with the new facial designs?

Getting a deja vu because it's come up in another elf thread not that long ago, but kinda like this:

Um, just as an artist...keep in mind that those two pictures have very different lighting, which really makes a difference. So, they may look similar, but one is in shadow, one in full light. Sorry, But with that I can't say they are similar. If we could get a pic of similar lighing...then I could compare and contrast. But right now? Not very good examples artistically speaking. Sorry...4 years of drawing naked people speaking.:D

But surely, 4 years of artistic drawing the naked people can be enough to let one discern the features underneath the lighting? Posted Image At least i don't find it much of a problem, although maybe that's different background at work (experience with 3d modeling rather than drawing. Still, they both require familiarity with the same shapes so, welp)

In the interest of science... here's that "gorgeous elf vs Morrigan" comparison i mentioned.

(take into account the chins are universally bigger in DA2, also on humans)

If were doing side by sides on Athenril then Varil, the dalish elf Hawke can hit on, has to be included. I think she is Athenril's long lost sister, quite possibly her identical twin. Pictures taken on Sundermount.

I find Merrill's hands to be decrepit. Anyone else notice?

I do hope the appearence of the average elf in DA 3 improves.
I wonder if there are some mods to change some of the elfs in DA2 to appear less bizzare and atleast be decent.

Merril's hands aren't the only things that are decrepit.

From what I've been reading that is what "aelf" meant in Old German was a small person. And the aelfing were a magical race composed of "light" elves that lived in woods, and "dark" elves that lived underground.  So I think the dwarf image of a Germanic/Scandinavian elf is really what they had in mind back in the ancient days.  The mythology would help explain why some people were born as midgets; because somewhere in their ancestory they had an elf that bred into the family.

It was Tolkien that gave the elves the more human size appearance and made them into a more attractive and nimble species.  Then ever after, all elves have kept the same stereotype.

No actually. Lighting can hide or enhance many features. Even exaggerate them. You could make someone unrecognizeable just by lighting. Eve Arden knew this as well. Nice try though.

Wow, and still recognizable and good looking! WTF is what I have to ask, in Zev's case. Because, here, he looks like Zev still with the whole Bejoran/Na'vi nose thing going on. He looks good, so does Shianni.

See... if I looked like any of the DA2 characters, I would say I most resemble Varric... well, if Varric had facial hair, anyhow.  Posted Image

And as Varric would say... "Don't worry your pretty little head, Daisy... there's plenty of Tranzor to go around."  Posted Image

Absolutely!  Ahh... I miss Shianni.  I would have liked her to be a companion and romance for the human origin, would have liked to show her that not all shems were bad.

What I've noticed compared to Merrill's picture is that Zev's and Shiani's foreheads are not as pronunced as her's.  Their noses are only slightly flatened down instead of coming down at a more steeper angle like in Merrill's case. Finally the differences are in the necks.  The two up above are not eloganted as the elves in DAII.  The only thing I see as the same is the drooping, enlarged ears.  If they could make them slightly less droopy then they would have the different species look they wanted and still keep them somewhat more attractive than DAII elves.  (just one more thing, it looks like these pics were done with the old Origins engine instead of the revamped DAII...I'm just noticing this in it's texturing, coloring, and shading.  These are moded?)

Fan service, but not for you and me. I remeber reading a thread last year in this very forum, where lots of people complained about how small ears DA:O elves had, and how they did not look enough like WOW elves (or so I remember, but I'm old and so are my brains so don't kill me if it wasn't WOW but some other game). I remeber thinking: this is not going to end well, and look what we got in DA2. What people wanted.
