???

So, where does "Fenris is just cloud strife with pointy ears" elaborate to impracticle skin exposure, to an old artwork of an Ilythiiri?

I don't agree with that, I think the few elves that were important were designed well. Fenris, Merrill, Orsino... the rest, pretty bleh, yeah. Not a fan of the generic male elf posture either or the universal lack of shoes. (wait... doesn't Orsino... have shoes?!)

Orsino reminded me of a vampire for some odd reason. As to shoes, only the crazy ones wore them.

Fenris was well done, but Merrill looked kinda like a stick figure with...nvm. I don't like the hunched over look either when idle. Why did they do that I wonder?

I am rooting for something between the too-human look of DAO and the praying-mantis-with-pointy-ears look of DA2. Aside from having a burning desire to feed Fenris and Merril a platter of cheeseburgers, they looked alright. The alien/insectiod thing with everyone else (especially Marethari) was a little...disturbing. And the shoes...really, send them shopping with Lel or something.

Shiny, scantily-clad anime-inspired elves kind of don't fit within our setting, don't you think? The ones in the image are kinda creepy, in a "be one of us, Gerald" kind of way.

"anime-inspired elves kind of don't fit within our setting, don't you think?"

Uh.....

FENRIS?! It doesn't help that two hander sword looks like it was taken from Japanese Anime.

Beyond him, every other elf is just the Navi from Avatar.

Really original and unique style you have!

Generally because Cloud Strife doesn't really have much relation to Fenris besides the memetized idea that he resembles a JRPG protagonist. Granted, what most people think about Cloud Strife doesn't really have much relation to Cloud Strife, either.

You have been Wooed...be proud.

I do not like these elves for DA setting in the pic, but then again I don't like the elves we have now. I can't even imagine what my many cute dalish would be turned into with the new cc/look of da2. But whatever...

 You're a verb now, Stanley Woo.  Be proud.

I somehow liked the look of elves in DA2, but they were far too skinny. And their shoulders were too small in comparison to their neck and body and some of their eyes creeped me out. I would not have minded if the lore hadn't said that humans find elves especially attractive, but as it stands... no.

Yes please.

But seriously. I didn't think Merrill was too bad, but the average elf in DA2 I didn't like. And I thought they were all to thin, I kept wanting to tell them to take their fingers out their mouths and eat.

You mean the neck sans scarf? There is a mod if you have the PC version. :wizard:

Well, If I am honest, nothing could be worse than the elves in DA2. Absolutely, and unequivocally, dire.

Athenril and Merrill alone make the redesign worth it and better than what came before. Probably still room for revision though.

I hate how people compare the elves to the Na'vi..... I just don't see how people can see that aside from the lithe body structure, which they were described in Origins to have anyway (Codex, Sten, etc...)

And not all the elves looked bad. Athenril, Merrill, Orsino, Lia, Zevran imo (though he could be tweaked a little further to reflect more on his Origins look. And his mouth moved kinda.... oddly.), Orana (though she looks like she looks like a Tarohne clown with purple lipstick), and some others.

Is the OP saying that all the female elves should look like body beautiful well endowed humans with pointed ears and different color hair? Really does not fit the DA world setting.

Neither do the near Roger-esque-from-American-Dad design some of them are currently sporting in this one

Moar like this!

Very nice.  What's the need for DAII to make elves have swollen foreheads and drooping enlarge ears?  They look more like the traditional fantasy goblins.  Merril's cute?  I don't see it.

All that needs to be done is ask Bioware not to make elves with this level of design:

Merrill, Fenris, Athenrial, Melathari, Zevran, "pretty eyes" elf chick who blows off your advances, the lead Hunter who finally banishes Merrill completely, and a few others looked pretty good, but the generic elves did leave a lot to be desired. I forgive the elf slave for being unattractive since she looked like she was actually designed to be that way.

The first time I saw the DA2 elves ingame I said to myself I've seen that before. Yep paint em blue, avatar. Its not just the *lithe* look, most have sloped/big foreheads now too, big eyes and some are very um colorful in makeup applications.

I honestly thought Zevran got the worse of it. Pinched face does not suit him at all. Image IPB

all imho

Which tradition are you talking about?

The Irish legends have elves being indistinguishable from fairies, the Iberian versions had them looking similar to Pan, the Norse had them rail thin with harsh angles, and all the Chistmas shows I've ever seen have them looking like skinny dwarves.

EDIT: Because I forget how to spell sometimes. Okay, a lot.

One of my main gripes. I may not be the hugest fan of the elves in DA2, but i give credit in the way that at least they are unique, not just humans with ears. However, models like this are just......wow. It just makes me skeptical about all that fancy compression talk when people were concerned about DA2 only being 5 gigs.

And im sorry Mr. Woo, but if those elves are creepy, then i am a major creeper!

I don't remember the Irish having any elves in their folklore.  I'm pretty sure they are a Scandinavian myth.

What is this pic from, Lineage II?  If so too bad the CG is better than the in game look, FFXIV elves look better in game than L2!

I'll save everyone the trouble of hashing it out over ancient mythology and just say I meant tolkien elves which were loosely based on legend.
