They wanted to turn elves in pink na'vi whitout tail

Which worked well for a James Cameron movie but Na'vi are not Elves. Elves in DA2 are a disgrace to the word and to the race. They're more Na'vi Fish! I really never seen anything that awful! It is disgusting.

And yes, even in DA lore they are described as the ones that came first, so why being "higher humans turned into slavery" is not compatible with it, as someone mentioned? Do they really have to look like crap? They're still a proud and ancient and wise race and Dalish are not slaves.

Sorry but the Elf in me, one that lived for 5 years in NWN permanent worlds LotR based and had me learning even some Sindarin out of that experience is really really mad to see what piece of **** race they turned into when in DA2's Thedas. Origins Elves are much more dignifying. The only DA2 Elf that has any chance is Merril but she still has the Na'vi features that were so "criatively" imported into Thedas! If I were James Cameron I'd sue for "Pladurism"!

tmp7704 has a mod which allows you to make more DA2 style elves in Origins.  They can actually look pretty cool.

Boy do I hate it when people mod a medieval fantasy RPG game to add tremendously out-of-place clothing and armor.

All elves were in Origins were just slightly shorter humans with pointy ears.

WOW! That was just... so unique and cool! I mean its not like if they covered their ears they could just as easily pass for humans or something.

I agree that DAO elves were just short humans with pointed ears.  They needed some work.  But DA2 broke their own lore by making those ugly things.  With all the better options out there I just can't image why they did it.  Even Merril, whose face looks ok, has that mishaped body, broken neck and mummified hands.  The romance scene with her nearly makes me sick.

Elves should look like this

Image IPB

Damn hippies... :D

I must admit that I don't really like this Elves' new look. But I totally support what they've tried to do. The classic elf that we get from Tolkien and others D&D is just boring.
The whole "Beautifull-smart-longliving-wise-race that is now doom for X reasons so pity them while you admire them...." I find it old.

But the problem with the DA universe is that we have more than classical Dwarves. I mean, underground, good at crafting and  good warrior but terrible mages. It is really original. <_<
So with those Dwarves, people expect Tolkien and D&D Elves. It is probably too late for a change.

(I appologize if my english isn't that good :crying:)

It actually was. Typical descriptions of elves make them either at least as tall as humans, or some sort of fairy-like being. DAO had neither.

Yup, it's not like the body build was noticeably different, at all. But the effect was clearly not blatant enough and they had to exaggerate that into full-blown anorexia for some to actually take notice and squeal with delight "oh, now it's different!"

I like the new design and I hope we have a chance to pick race again in later installments. I want to play around with the new elves in the CC.

Besides, I think Merrill is cute as a button.

In the lore aren't Elves supposed to be able to at least sort of pass as humans if they cover up their ears? I thought that was the basis for the "flat ear" jibe used to insult those who are held to be insufficiently elfy?

You tell me
It is a community-made race and the armor as well
Exactly the creepy fashion model in a rpg scenery look
I tried to avoid in my race compilations for the same game .

Yet it is save to say they'll pop out of the ground again
like mushrooms during a warm rain shower  after nov. 11th

Don't agree with the op, those elves look even more ridiculous and horrible than the ones we have.
I don't know I kind of dislike the Bioware route too, but I can adapt to it if that's how they think their elves should be I'm fine they fit the setting and all they're just strange looking.

Yes because humans don't have entirely different body structures. There are no fat people, skinny people, athletic people, insanely jacked to the point of looking like a Walrus type people, short people, tall people, etc... [/sarcasm]

Everyone has a different body structure. I'm skinny (though in really good shape for my body structure) but pretty damn strong and I can swim really fast. Does that make me some sort of alien aquatic creature? No, it makes me a human with a different build.

EDIT: and for the record, not all elves are skinny and in shape. Some were shown to have a beer belly it seems (Jethann, Lia's dad, maybe Tomwise). Either that or what they were wearing made them look kinda fat.

I can understand not going with anime-inspired elves in scanty clothes - they probably would look out of place for most of the elf NPCs in the game.
However, I'd much prefer an elf design that was closer to some of the more traditional fantasy elves (tolkien, blood/high elves from WoW, etc). I'd rather give up originality for attractiveness, and a design like that would fit the DA setting just fine IMHO. I'm just not a fan of the current DA2 elf design, where attractiveness is the rare exception (like Merrill, and half that is really scripting and voice acting).
Of course, with Flemeth already setting a precedent for anime designs, I'd totally dig a few anime inspired elves for a few chosen NPCs.. ^_^.. but then, my av is already a Ren's hair elf, so my bias is pretty obvious

Um... Fenris?

Merrill looks fine the way she is and I'll jump to her defense anytime. But her personality too is kinda inspired by the virginal lolis from anime if you ask me.

Anyway back to the elves. I like the feline-ish slickness. But their lack of nose bridge kinda scares me a bit. They just don't seem... sapient. Like, I wouldn't expect em to be interbreedable with human, especially since the dwarves are known to be either, and they look genetically much closer to us.

They don't in DA, which makes that sarcasm a swing and miss, sorry. You can see the body of human in DA to be equivalent of "average" human build, and the same goes for the elves. Consequently, it means the average build of an elf isn't as stocky as that of the average human.

For the most part, I liked all the elves, especially Fenris and Merril. I'm cool with some being ugly and breaking away from elves are the fair race, dwarves are sturdy and can be trusted......... blah blah D&D stuff. I did think the one blood mage in act 3 with the mohawk was real real weird looking in a way where I was like WHOA KILL HIM IN THE FACE FIRST!

I hate to break it to you but elves don't really exist, so there is no such thing as a "disgrace" to a real elf.  Elves are whatever the artists imagine them to be.  Pointy ears really are the only consistent standard I've seen, and I think even that is open to interpretation.

Really? What about Anders, who has a build that is slightly more frail to reflect that he's a mage (at least, that's what another poster said on a different thread.)? What about Lloyd, that fat tub of laziness? What about the two fat people who stumbled across the meteor that was a homage to Superman? Why is it that Carver is more muscular than Hawke and appears to be taller?

They have different builds. So sorry, my sarcasm isn't a swing and a miss.
