According to CE details, we can't customize appearance of squadmates?

 Among the Collectors Edition goodies:

"Squadmate Alternate Outfit Pack – New appearances for squad members Ashley, Kaiden, James and Liara."

Does this mean that the appearance of squadmates is fixed like it was in ME2 and DA2, and we won't be able to equip them with different suits of armor like we could in ME1? Part of me wants to see the new designs of the ME3 squad, but part of me also wants to be able to equip my squadmates with whatever other pieces of armor Shepard has in his/her locker.

And does this mean removable helmets are in or out of the game?

If true, please be new, functional armor for Ashley and not a recolor ala Liara 'Samara' look.

For god's sake do NOT have Ash stuck in the stupix Phoenix style white and pink armor for the entire game.  It completly ruined her intro in ME1.

If true, please be new armor for Ash.

That quote came straight out of Christ Priestly's announcement of the CE in the Mass Effect 3 News and Announcements section, so I'm assuming it's true. I just want to know if this limits squad customization, or if it's strictly a "bonus" for players that get a sweet piece of new armor on top of increased flexibility in customizing.

I wouldn't be surprised if they stuck us with the same old system in two, hope it would be different but from what i hear Bioware is sticking to the last games core systems.

You do know that you can change her armor at any time in ME 1?

Right?...RIGHT?

I don't mind with squaddies sticking with the alt. appearances, it makes sure each one has a unique look. I just hope they change it in that they add more than one, 2 or 3 choices doesn't seem like enough.

But in ME3, will we be able to change her armor at any time with any piece? Or will it be like in ME2, where we only have two or three outfits choices per character?

I really hope that we get something more than swapping between one or two sets of armor with different colors as the extent of squad armor customization something like Shepards wardrobe system would be great.

I'm hoping and preying that the squad customisation brainstorm that they were supposed to be doing not long ago turns it into a proper N7 armour system. ( Although why the hell they left it this late when people have been screaming about how rubbish the ME2 system is since it came out, I can't quite figure out. )

Come on, a lot of the work is already done...  Shepherd, Liara, Ashley, Kaiden, Jack, Thane, James, Samara, Jacob and Miranda. - can all use the same bits and I reckon with only a bit of tweaking they can get them to fit most of the others too.

They still have 9 months and a **** load of content creators working for them so there's no reason Bioware couldn't make it happen.

Things like this seldom go backwards, so don't expect to be able to equip your squadmates in ME1 style.
Anyways I'd prefer 2-3 high quality armors (in design) than a lot of generic stuff.

I hope we have squad armor customization but if not I then hope the squad members are at least wearing something realistic for combat.

I'm assuming it's going to be pretty much the same as ME2, with maybe a change here or there.

I don't really have a problem with it to be honest, everyone I've seen looks great so far.

My one explanation for not being any info on this at all other then "there's customisation", is that they are not done tweaking it all. Maybe if we make enough threads something will get through.... Ding dong BioWare anybody home? XD

Usually I would go with the "don't assume anything but wait tll we know for sure" argument here. However, I wont for two reasons:
1. The CE description really makes it clear that there will be appearance packs. While that doesn't mean that they'll work like they did in ME2, the chances for a new and better system just decreased drastically and it is a good indication that we will get fixed appearances.
2. This is something that might well still be tweaked before the game is finished, so I think it is worth telling BW that there are a lot of people out there who'd really like to see some more customization options than we had in ME2. Maybe not to the level of ME1 but still, something else.
I personally would prefer a wardrobe system like Shepards armor closet in ME2 with a section for each squad mate.

I've been wondering this as well. Especially with Shepard, Ashley, Kaiden, and Jacob. They're all former Alliance, so you'd think you'd be able to interchange their armor suits easily.

Considering once you had Colossus X armor for all squaddies in ME1 you would stop caring about "customizing" their armor, I don't mind if they stick with ME2's armor/outfit system, on a few conditions.
A little bit more variety WOULD be nice, considering that armor for companions doesn't affect their armor level or performance (as far as we know). However...
It would be cool if they had a few armors for each squaddie. One "balanced" set, and then two sets with different specialties to compensate for/augment the way the companion played depending on how their powers were evolved. Also, please make it look like armor. Ashley's suit seems okay... it look thick enough to get away with having armor plating underneath, even if it's minimal. The others all seem fine so far as well. As long as there aren't any Miranda/Samara/Jack-levels of unbelievable combat gear, I think we should be fine.
