Trying to decide what class to be. Not looking for a specific one. Don't know how to make a poll so I'll do this the old fashion way. Type Soldier, for example, if you think I'd have fun as a soldier, then type maybe a paragraph explaining why you think I'd have fun. Do the same for the other classes, such as Vanguard, if you think I'd have fun with that particular class. Thanks in advance all!

LOL, this is so person specific depending on your personal likes and dislikes of how you like to play games.
Vanguard is usually the winner in all these kinds of polls.
Sentinel is close second.
Adept and Engineer fight for the best casters and those who like "mage" style play choose one.
Infiltrator is considered the most fun "soldier" type class.
Soldier is usually considered borderline boring but some people love it.

For one class you can have different spec, some love infiltrator with shot gun, other prefer infiltrator with window, etc.

Too lazy to do a paragraph per, but a summary of what you get:
Solider: good one to start out with, since its the most simplified. You have all guns, and a handful of useful powers. Adaptable to everything, high health. Gets boring for most once you are familiar with the others.
Infiltrator: a soldier, but slightly more tactical. They can "cloak" to become invisible to enemy detection, which can be useful to some (I found this to be a detriment, not my style I guess). Armed with a SMG, pistol and sniper, you're quite flexible too. Take squadmates that can function independently, because you won't supervise them much.
Engineer: underrated class. Lots of useful powers. Coupled with bonus power Dominate, was the funnest playthrough I ever did. Only pistol and SMG trained, pick up a sniper or assault rifle on the Collector ship.
Adept: class with lots of biotic power. Best on lower difficulties, a bit too squishy for harder ones. Again, go assault or sniper rifle for your weapons-training on the Collector ship. Take along squadmates with bigger guns though, like Garrus, Zaeed, Legion.
Vanguard: great class for aggressive players. Vanguard charge is a blast, hurling you at a locked-on target. Also includes a couple of solid biotic powers and some specialized ammo to take out specific opponents.
Sentinel: my personal favorite. Sentinels have both tech and biotic powers, making them very flexible and tactical. SMG and pistol trained only, select assault rifle or shotgun training (I preferred the shotgun). Tech Armor adds some very hard shields. Just about all squadmates work in synergy. Once I'd upgraded out, I pretty much clowned the suicide mission.

Lol yeah I guess it is silly posting a topic to help me decide what class to play as. However, having OCD is a real ****. =/ I think I'll go with Sentinel. Thanks guys.

First play should always be soldier if you're new to the game. Just so you get a feel for the story and the game the way BW intended. Then branch from there in subsequent play throughs based on what interests you.
I would definitely not do Sentinel as the first run.

Depends on which game (ME1 or ME2) and what you like.
As a general description of the classes and other RPG counterparts:
Soldier: Your basic "warrior" or "fighter" class. No special tricks, just a pure damage dealer and effective tank. In ME1 (s)he gets to wear the heaviest of armors and in ME2 can equip all weapons. In ME2 the Soldier class gives the game a pure shooter feel to it. I thought this class was okay in ME1 but loved it in ME2.
Personal Rating: 2.5/5 (ME1), 4/5 (ME2)
Engineer: Can easily be considered a "scout" or "rogue" class, especially in ME1 due to the focus on disabling and debilitating enemies as well as unlocking (decryption/electronics) doors/safes. If you don't plan on taking Kaidan, Garrus or Tali along in ME1 I recommend an Engineer (or some form of tech class). In ME2 the Engineer plays more like a mage (summons = combat drone, incinerate/cryo = fire/ice spells). I consider it a decent class (not my personal favorite).
Personal Rating: 2/5 (ME1), 2.5/5 (ME2)
Adept: Your Jedi class. If you enjoy spellcasters (or throwing people around), then this class is for you. Very physically weak in both ME1 and ME2 so make sure you have good tanking characters in your squad. In ME1 they are a lot of fun but in ME2 they are nerfed (their powers are not nearly as decent).
Personal Rating: 3/5 (ME1), 2/5 (ME2)
Infiltrator: Now this class is fun! If you like ranger/assassin style classes you'll like this one, the Tech focuses on trapping and disabling enemies and training with the sniper rifle lets you make those one shot kills. In ME2 this class is much better since you get a signature cloaking special that lets you unleash your inner assassin.
Personal Rating: 3/5 (ME1), 3.5/5 (ME2)
Vanguard: Your standard spellsword (or Jedi sentinel) class. This class is purely offensive (focus on short range weapons such as the shotgun while ME2 lets you charge right into your enemies). This class is also the fan favorite of many (and my canon Shepard happens to be a Vanguard). Only downside is that they are a bit of a glass cannon and I wouldn't recommend this class on higher difficulties.
Personal Rating: 3.5/5 (ME1), 4/5 (ME2)
Sentinel: My personal favorite class. They are your standard "red mage" (those who know Final Fantasy know what I'm speaking of, if not then consider this your cleric) class in that they have "just enough" offense and abilities that focus on healing, debilitating, debuffing, and offensive spells. In ME2 that potential is upped with Tech Armor (adding survivability) and becomes your paladin style class. If you love jack of all trades style characters I'd recommend this class.
My Rating: 4/5 (ME1), 4.5/5 (ME2)
Hope I helped :-) Best thing to do is just have fun and have a playthrough with each class to get a feel for which one(s) you personally like and dislike.

You want some easy gunplay? Try Soldier.
But wait, you want some real challenge? Some real action? Vanguard is the only answer.

It is. I don't see much of it here though. I know you made your choice, but I'm still going to vote for:
1. Infiltrator. If you play aggressively and mix in some CQC with your sniping, it becomes very fun and addictive. Works that way for me anyway.
2. Vanguard. Even though it's immensely popular around here, I wouldn't call it overrated. It really is as much fun as people are saying.

When picking a class, what role in a group do you favor? Support while your teammates take direct fire? Do you value offensive or defensive abilities? Are you an aggressive damage dealer or do you prefer defensive abilities to survive? Do you value adaptability in nearly all situations or do you believe in specializing? Are you direct or subtle in combat?
It might help to decide the values you drift towards when hostile action is taken against you. I prefer the Vanguard class for the biotics as backup when ammo is hard to reach and the extra weaponry when you're on cooldown. Charge covers defense so all that was needed was an offensive biotic ability to supplement ammo conservation and speed up damage being a rather aggressive player on my part. Picked up the sniper rifle to cover all distances so am VERY picky about adaptablility
Hope that helps...

Well I got 90% of the way through the game as a soldier on the PS3 before the vanguard bug bit me and I started a new game on the PC with that and completed it. I'm now at the early stages with my level 1 start sentinel and I do miss the ability to charge but love the fact I now have access to warp and tech armor. These 3 classes require a different style of play and for me, the vanguard was the most fun due to the good weapons abilities and some useful biotics and charge. The soldier kicks butt with all those guns but just shooting things got a bit dull after a while and I found that shooting husks is no way as effective or fun as just obliterating them with level 4 heavy shockwave (on normal difficulty). The sentinel seems pretty good but is harder to play (on veteran) at the beginning because the starting weapons are so feeble and your powers are weak. I grabbed the sniper rifle on the collector ship with my vanguard and it rounded him out nicely and I loved the viper sniper rifle you find during Thane's recruitment mission. If I were to choose between the 3 classes I've played so far then I'd pick the vanguard. For me, it was fun, addictive and pretty versatile.
