The only point where I really wanted to give him a dickpunch was when he chucked a spaz after recruiting Loghain.

I think that was the funniest thing I've ever read.

I start out every game loving his banter, but by the end of the game, I want to... what's the word... oh right... "dickpunch" him "for chucking a spaz" everytime I want to go to the ****house or have an open relationship.

As a rogue, my A-team is Zevran, Wynne, and the dog. With the right equipment, I'm as good as any tank. No Alistair necessary.

@DaneWolf:
By the way, you can romance anyone of the 4 romancible characters by using the approval debugger. I couldn't bear to be a male but I still wanted to get the achievements, so I used it to get with Morrigan as a female. Unfortunately, she still wouldn't let me impregnate her; I wanted a demon-spawn baby. She'd give me her ring, but she wouldn't let me impregnate her...   :(

Heh, if the character started as the leader most people who complain about him seem to want, not only would there be no character arc where he grows into leadership and overcomes his fears, but the PC would have nothing to do except follow Alistair. Doesn't sound like a game people would find appealing, playing squire to King Alistair.

It's called TESIV: Oblivion. Except they renamed Allistair "Martin," the darkspawn are "Daedra," the fade is "Oblivion," and Duncan is "Jauffre."

[/sarcasm]

Hmm, I may have just slamed my favorite game...

Thing is, no-one cared for balls about Martin.

I like Alistair, but I rarely use him in battle now except in the first quarter of the game. I usually play a mage or sometimes a rogue. So if I'm taking a warrior or two into battle for tanking purposes, it's usually sten and oghren, or even dog.

I love Alastair - for me, he's integral to the enjoyment of the storyline of Dragonage. That and so far he's served me well as a tank in my game. AND his banter with Morrigan and Zevran (my staple party members) is priceless. I found that Sten, Wynne and Leliana really didnt have the conversational repertoire to warrant keeping them in my party- anyone found this otherwise?

Take Wynne and Zevran. They have some... interesting conversations. Sten and Alistair have at least one interesting conversation as well.

Alistair is a good tank at first, but as soon as dog gets overwhelm or shale gets rock barrage, Alistair stays at camp.

Alastair is a great character if your a fairly decent person, or even if your not, one thing i don't like, it that compared to loghain or Shale, he's a very poor tank. Otherwise he probably has some of the best (and funniest) dialogue in the game.

Such as sneaky socks and where babies come from.

Built correctly, Alistair is a fantastic late-game tank, far, far better than Shale.  There is very little difference between him and Loghain from a tanking perspective.  Shale starts out strong and but eventually gets eclipsed.  Rock Mastery is where Shale shines late game.

True but late game i usually drop the tank and go for two Warriors in Massive armour, usually myself and Sten (i'd be duel wielding with a templar or Rever) and with Wynne healing, it works. If i have Alistair, such as when I'm the rogue, then i'll have Morrigan to heal/dps. Early on Allistar just seems so weak, until about level 15 onwards, while if i make a tank myself, it works perfectly in comparisan, even if i spec it exactly the same. It just seems to be Alistair himself, if anything, though once he toughens up, he's near perfect. I guess the characters personalities really are a factor, or maybe just my game :P

Not if you specced him that way, no.  Its quite possible.  See some of the other threads floating around on the topic.

My first 4 playthroughs, I treated Alistair as the tool I think he is. I never even bothered dealing with him as a toon. My fourth playthough I decided to give him a go, and I have been enjoying his dialogue and he is a great tank.

Not half as cool as Sten, but, I will begrudgingly acknowledge he can stand toe to toe with the best.

I had never heard "dickpunch" or "chuck a spaz" before, but based on the context of your story, I totally understood what you meant as I pictured Alistair throwing his little whine-ass tantrum. The combination of your uncommon phrases and the image of Alistair made me really laugh out loud. I'm a terribly serious person, so when something makes me laugh, it should be noted and appreciated. So thank you; you are too kind.

Just because the topic starter didn't like him doesn't mean everyone didn't, not sure if it's just ballsy of you to think that or ignorant, proberly the later

But for some strange reason for role playing purposes I guess, I have taken him into every single battle my Mage has been in. It just seems I am sharing the main story with him since we are both Grey Wardens. It's not just "my" storyline but his as well it wouldn't feel right without him the first time through. Call me crazy but i just feel like it's the right thing to do.

Hes always in my party, gotta love his sarcasm.

The only people who hate Alistair are insecure guys who're jealous of the amount of Fangirls he has, and the size of his equipment.
