I shot all the husks, I damaged the reaper core down to about a quarter of its health, and now the core wont open and no more husks will appear. Also, there's this AWFUL screaming sound and it's constant. Any help here?

sounds like something got stuck falling. If you are sporting the cain then shoot the core with it.
IF not check for hung up enemies below the platform area, or reload and try again.

I reloaded the auto save, killed a pair of husks and it opened, very wierd.....of course I didn't have the Cain, it is now a permanent member of my arsenal.
