His name is unofficially NIgel FishNChips, and sadly, it seems he dies wounded in Big Ben (unless we get a treat and there's a vague mention of a wounded sniper rescued from London's famous clock tower on a news program or something).

This makes me immensely sad.
I preferred his 2 seconds of fame to Liara's entire story arc (excluding Shadow Broker DLC, because that was a great DLC, and actually made Liara remotely interesting)

Having him be Major Coates doesn't make sense. He should be out leading his men, not having a solo standoff with the reapers as as sniper.

My interpretation was that it was Coates some time after the Reaper invasion, but before priority Earth.
Coates is probably the guy who told Anderson about the reaper buildup in London. Apparently he survived the solo standoff, I guess he should have the solomastery award and might be N7 material.
