I could go on . . . but there are so many hints as to what comes next. It really does make the attentive player excited about what is to come.

There are lots of hints but how many of them are intended for games after DA3? I doubt if Bioware will abandon the DA universe after DA3. There were many Forgotten Realms games that had nothing to do with each other as they took place in far away parts of the Realms. The Orlesian war and the Qunari war could be for DA4 and DA5 and be totally unrelated to the DAO, DA2 and DA3 series.

DAO was about the reoccurring Blight but Awakening seems to imply that there will be no more Blights even though the darkspawns will continue to exist. Witch Hunt and the beginning of DA2 imply that Morrigan's Baby and Flemeth are a separate tale for DA4 or later as they seem to have nothing to do with the events of DA2.

The major unresolved event of DA2 is the end of the Circles outside of Tevinter. The Circle is a MAJOR aspect of Thedan society and their dissolution requires resolution. That will either the subject of DA3 or an add-on like Awakening.

We know that if the Warden survived DAO, he has disappeared by the end of DA2. One way or another the Warden is gone. The Champion lives so he may make an appearance in DA3. The graphics to any character you make appears to all be in the save file directories. The VA would the same two people. However I suspect (s)he will be a cameo character.

Meh, I'm thinking there's gonna be something about the maker/andraste returning (and bringing the magic back)

Does anyone think there might be too many loose ends for there to be a comprehensive conclusion?

Absolutely.

Depends how much money they are making.

If cash is coming in they will stretch it out until it stops making money or until it gets silly.   When it gets silly they will likely make the last game in a hurry and start another franchise.

I say "likely".  I've seen exceptions to this rule in entertainment where the creators of a show/book series/game franchise will finish strong.

The Champion has also disappeared, AND been missing for 3 YEARS by the time Varric is interogated. Even Varric says Hawke could be dead - he thinks not, but doesn't know either way.
Theres just as much likelihood as not that either will appear in DA3. I'd personally hope for The Warden over Hawke; or neither and a new character (one with some actual origin/background options would be nice...).

They keep saying the Dragon Age series tells the story of a world and not a character. I really hope DA3 lets us start fresh with someone new. Somewhere that isn't full of crazy Templars and Blood Mages.

I prefer continuity from game to game. If DA 3 doesn't allow me to continue on as Hawke, then I will not be purchasing the game. I never played DA:O. Since the protagonist from DA:O doesn't carry over into DA2, I never will. I know other people feel differently and that's okay.

It's a shame you feel this way. You're really missing out on a quality game. To each there own, I guess.

I didn't know it until several weeks ago, but the Dragon Age series is heavily in the same vein as The Song of Ice and Fire book series.  And that book series is written very much from the stand points of different kindoms and continents during different points of time.  Eventually what is going on in several warring kingdoms converges with what is going on in others.  Certain characters take centre stage for parts of the story.

But their is no main character - it's not about that.

Furthermore, most of the characters die.  Sons succeed fathers, conquerers succeed standing rulers.  Nobody sticks around forever.

So you probably should pack up your copy of DA2, sell it, and stop wasting your time on the forums.  Because we may hear of and see Hawke or the Hero of Fereldan again . . . but they won't ever be the "main character" of the DA series.

edit: so I'm still excited to see what DA3 will bring, and I still think it could all fall apart because video games aren't novels.  But we'll see.

Your loss. DA2 had it's moments, but most people who've played both will tell you that Orgins is much better.

Hope you're right! I really like the DA setting but I'm eager to be done with Hawke. I wouldn't mind playing the Warden again but I doubt we'll see that. He or she could have died in Orgins.

I'd also like to be done with the tiresome mage / templar conflict, but that's probably hoping for too much. I just hope it's not the main theme of DA3. If it's developed into a full world war with the elves, dwarves, and nation states involved I won't mind. But if it's just those two idiotic factions again I'll probably be renting DA3.
