I'm sure we've all heard about it. Mass Effect 3 will support Kinect use for voice recognition, which can be used to select dialogue options and command squad members. Personally, I love the idea. However, not many ME fans have a Kinect, nor want to get one, but might still want to be able to use this feature. What I would like to see BioWare do is implement the voice recognition feature into the game so that it can be used with any mic compatible with the 360, PS3, or PC; not just the Kinect. What's your take on this?

Here's a video explaining this a bit more.

I own a Kinect Sensor and its awesome, but yeah.....dude.

While it'd be nice if everyone could try it, people wouldn't buy Kinect if the option was available with a ten dollar microphone(not counting Turtle Beaches and the like).

It won't happen.

I hate to sound like an ass(I don't want to come off that way), but if you want that feature, you're gonna have to shell out the $150 for a new Kinect Sensor or whatever it is for a used one.

EDIT- And dude, if you own a Turtle Beach, I imagine getting a Kinect is likely not a problem IF you end up wanting one(of course certain circumstances could deem otherwise).

Point is, voice recognition is a Kinect feature. No Kinect, no voice recognition. Simple as that.

You know, I have this conspiracy theory that the release of ME3 was delayed specifically so that Kinect-capability could be tacked on.

I feel like with Shepard repeating lines it is a 3-person conversation. I would like at least the option to turn off Shepard's voice actor since I will be doing the job for free...well I'll be paying to be Shepard's voice actor.

I say this cause I want to do the voice recognition and I do not like Shepard repeating what I said. Does Shepard actually say anything necessary when the NPC and I are doing it all?

Also, does the voice recognition work with a headset?

Voice stuff is kinda lame I think. Now, controlling the galaxy map with kinect, would be cool. Even better if they remake the map in line with the original vision (check out this e3 2006 beta video for the original ME for a look ) would be even better.

So will you have to own kinetic in order to be able to talk? Can't I just plug in my 360 headset and talk via that?

I'm sure they are capable of making the game adaptable to the headset, but that would probably push the release date of the game back even further and I don't think they want to do that. Maybe save that for if they do an Ultimate Edition with all 3 games combined in one huge set.

Must have Kinect. Like I said before, its a Kinect feature, not a Headset feature.

What I like in this Kinect feature is that is completely optional.

Xbox players who don't have Kinect or PS3/PC gamers will not lose anything.

So since I'm a PC gamer "not a single **** was given" yesterday. :P

Given past experiences with voice recognition software (outside of kinect, I don't own an xbox) I'm not sure I'd exactly be chomping at the bit to try it out in a video game. I think I'd let other people try it first.

i like kinect in ME3, ordering my squad mates around via voice seems so much more practical than having the call up the power wheel every time.
Additionally, i would like kinect support for the galaxy map, with it styled something akin to Minority Report.

Yes, the Galaxy Map is practically PERFECT for Kinect functionality.

I'll be sad if they don't jump on the opportunity.

I don't care about voice recognition. Simply because it takes more time than actually press a button. Just think about it -shouting like a moron pronouncing every single word correctly "Garrus, move on" and, well, just to press "Q" button with a simple gesture of your finger.

The way I understand it is that Kinect has its own voice recognition software which the game would use so to enable the game to use voice without Kinect Bioware would have to create their own VR software which is very complicated (have you ever played a game with Voice control, most don't work)

And now you too can be Jedore over the loudspeaker ...

As I said in another thread, me yelling directions to my crew is too Jedore and just wacked ... Liara, Garrus, Ashley, etc, have been with Shepard for how long? They know what they are doing and don't need me yelling at them. My Shepard may guide them with a nudge here, small hand signal there ... but overall, they really have my back. Yes, I may do the nudging on the controller, but it feels less intrusive then telling them verbally what to do.

I can see it now, me shouting out commands:

ME: "Liara! Singularity!"
Liara: "I know what I am doing!"
ME: "Garrus! Snipe his ass!"
Garrus: Image IPB
ME: "Jack! ..."
Jack: "WTF? B81ch ... shut the frack up!"
ME: Image IPB

But if that means that ME3 received more $$$ to add this feature, hopefully they can udse the bulk of it on other things! Image IPB

A Commander will ALWAYS order his troops around. You don't keep your mouth shut in the heat of battle.

Yes, Jedore knew that all too well.  Image IPB

My crew has been trained to fight without me yelling at them and would beat the crap out of me if I changed. Now in LotSB, Liara was yelling things at me but she can do that. Image IPB

On a serious note, I would feel really dumb yelling commands but if it works for others then have at it. It is all about having fun and getting into the role of Shepard. We all get to play the way we want. Image IPB

For me it makes sense as Shepard is a military commander and they give orders during battle to make sure that the battle goes as planned. Plus if it works it would mean pausing less during battles to give squadmates orders

My shep is definitely the kind of guy who gives the kind of commands through HUD displays and non-com chatter acknowledgments (click, beep) but talking to him during a firefight might come at the cost of bullet through the brain. He has been pretty jumpy ever since Akuze. (Infiltraitor)

On to kinect voice, sorry but unless its fully implemented, its just an add-on gimmick. Tom Clancy end war was not gimmicky but was only half implemented; too strict on what you could say. But you didn't have to buy extra-hardware for it, just a regular headset, so it was a non issue. Since Kinect is whats its priced at, and ME3 will only implement in the combat, its a gimmick. Thats my view at least.

ME3 is implementing Kinect's Voice Recognition not only in combat but in the dialogue wheel as well.

Yeah. My Shepard would definitely give orders for squadmates to do certain things, as any Commander should.

If you give room for squadmates to do what they want or don't use vocal orders, mistakes happen, and people die.

Adds to the immersion for me that now I can give vocal orders and don't have to press buttons for my squad to do what I want them to do.
