Loved the first level / part of ME3 on Earth ... having to escape, etc.

But from that video we can (reasonably) conclude that none of Shep's friends / squad mates are at the trial or apparently on Earth (except for the Virmire survivor).... Shep is teamed with Anderson it seems and nobody else, so it's unlikely any of Shep's other pals are around.

Was really hoping at least Garrus would be there... if not as a character witness in the trial, then at least for morale support for Shep.

So, who do you wish was there on Earth with Shepard?

(And yes, I know that this short gameplay footage doesn't necessarily mean for certain none of our squaddies are on Earth or the Normandy... but it seems a reasonable assumption based on what we've been shown.. for now anyway).

I was under the assumption they just stayed on the ship in the first place, or had gotten separated.

Maybe the Shepard in the demo let everybody die?

for their sake none of them. Being Shepard I would drop them off where they want so I wouldn't get them in trouble. Last thing I need is the alliance to capture Legion, Miranda and Jacob. The rest of them could get prosecuted for genocide too.

Maybe they're all in a small shuttle to go on a small assignment where they all aren't needed. Or maybe they went to Risa.

Your LI, no matter who it is, should be there.

Our ME2 squadmates are psychopaths, serial killers, assassins, mercenaries, criminals, vigilantes, terrorists, and a robot. Why the hell would you possibly take them to Earth? They'd either go ape**** crazy or be locked up

I dont think Squaddies are on the ship Because The Alliance took possession of the Normandy2 and were in the process of stripping her when the attack began.

Fair point.... like I could understand Tali & Liara not being there (Tali has important things with the Migrant Fleet, no doubt... and Liara is the shadow broker.. so clearly has stuff to take care of).

Jack? She could technically be there if she's loyal to Shep.. she's a free woman now with little else to do... I could see her taking some time away to give Shep some support (though I suppose there could be countless arrest warrants still out for her.. being a mass murderer and all... hehe).

Thane? He's dying, so probably wants to spend a bit of time with his son (though if he's a LI of Shep, it would make sense for him to be there with Shep as well).

Samara? Nope.. Justicar.. important, lunatic Justicar stuff to do.

Miranda & Jacob? As you mentioned.. probably risky.. Cerberus and all... might get arrested... so seems ok if they're not around.

Zaeed? Mercenary, no reason for him to stick around Shep.... too busy finding work and killing people for cash... he's already a "Big guddamn hero" anyway now.. can use that fame to his profit.

Kasumi? Hard to say... but she's a thief and kleptomaniac.. so probably too busy plotting a new heist.

Mordin? Definitely not. Very old salarian, has little time left.. important "sciency" stuff to do... Genophage research, etc. And while fond of Shepard, as a Salarian he doesn't develop close emotional attachments as other species might to warrant being there for Shep.

Legion? Obviously not.. would be shot on sight.

Grunt? Probably should be with Shep... afterall, Shep is his battlemaster.

Garrus? Makes sense for him to be at the trial ... especially if he is a LI for femshep. He's a nomad.. a self described "not very good Turian".. doesn't fit well within the social structure of his own people, has cut ties with C-Sec (twice), has no other friends left in the galaxy, has very limited family contact... he's a wanderer, aimless, something of a lost and troubled soul... would only make sense for him to be near the one friend he says he has left.

I did notice this but it's hard to tell if this means nobody will be at the trial, the demo could just be set up this way for E3 and perhaps the actual opening sequence isn't set in stone yet.

But it sort of makes sense that everyone would drift apart, what else are they going to do while Shepard is detained? As cool as Garrus is, I'm sure he'd be restless just passing time on Earth until the trial date came up. And pretty much all the other companions have no reason to be there (maybe the LIs, but again, if Shepard is detained what are they supposed to be doing in the mean time?). Some of Shepard's companions have really checkered pasts and would have to be laying low during such a high profile event plus Casey mentioned there is other stuff going on in the galaxy when the invasion happens so there could be all sorts of stuff for everyone to be involved with.

It's a bit of a bummer but I can see why they'd not want to overwhelm the new players with a bunch of exposition/character introduction at the start. Not everyone will be importing, unfortunately, so the devs do have to think about those sorts of elements as well.

All I have to say is that Khalisah al-Jilani better be there.

Shepard: "I am not a terrorist! I am a hero!"
*Khalisah al-Jilani is called to the stand*
Khalisah al-Jilani: "He hit me...twice."
Shepard: I've had enough of your malicious allegations!"

Taking a renegade interrupt action during the trial will lead to table pounding and accusatory finger-pointing.  Perhaps also shouting.

I'm not surprised that squadmates won't be at the trial.  I can't imagine that they'd wanna make Shepard's trial a spectacle.

If Garrus, Tali, Liara, and Grunt are not at my trial, they're going to get SHEPARD PAWNCH'd. My Shepard was always there for them when they needed help and moral support. It's time they return the favor!

If I had to guess, Garrus is probably using the downtime as a chance to catch up with his family. He does have a sick mother after all. I didn't get the impression that he had been back to Palaven since leaving C-Sec in ME1, probably has some matters to settle with his father. Otherwise I don't know where he'd be.

It's been stated Shepard will have to travel around and re-recruit (well, pick up, at least) his squad... I'd like to think Shep was outside the trial with the Normandy & crew and said "Well, I might be tied up for a while. Everyone, go do anti-Reaper missions, and when I get out of here, I'll come pick you up." Y'know, Tali, Garrus, Grunt, Mordin, Thane, Samara, Legion, you all go get help from your homeworlds/robotic hive minds, humans, you do recon/go to the Citadel/etc. And then the Reapers arrived a little earlier than planned, in the middle of the trial. Shepard gets out, and goes and recruits/temporarily rejoins/gets cameos of his squad, and finds a couple new squaddies along the way. Probably recruits some fleets and such while he's at it, does some more army-mustering, and the countdown to the final Reaper battle is on.

Honestly, everyone (including Shepard's LI) running away doesn't seem justified through any other means I've heard...

Yeah, I know.. you guys are right... just part of me really wanted at least 1 of Shep's old pal's around heh (though I admit it is kinda nice seeing Anderson again and especially fighting next to him.. always liked him).

There's also the VS too... though I'm annoyed with both of them after their outburst in ME2 :D

From what I understood in the dialogue at the end of Arrival, Shepard turns himself/herself in (or is capable of doing so). I'm pretty sure he/she didn't want to take the rest of the crew along for that particular ride.

Assuming this is an Alliance Military trial, would non-military personnel even be allowed to attend?
