Say garras was a main person in me3 who did all these key things.

What if he died in mass effect 2 and does not live?

Im confused by how this works.

We get less squad mates.

There will be someone else in his place, or whatever he does won't happen for you and your game will turn out differently. What's difficult about this?

There is a thread about this already in existence. It's on page 1 as well.

Erm...Why do you think the VS was left out of ME:2 and Liara had so much Plot Armour?

We don't know exactly how it's gonna work, but you'll only get Garrus and Tali if they survived. And Kaidan/Ashley are probably going to be very important but they're interchangable.

You'll still have Ashley/Kaiden, Liara, and Vega to choose from! Enough to fill out a 3 person ground team.

Suck it up! You're the one that decided to play a crappy leader.

Oh, and nobody knows the final squad list, so nobody actually knows.

Exactly.  So, forexample, I sent Thane went through the vents during the suicide mission, and he took a round to the face.  We mourned and it was a beutiful service

Fast forward to ME3, I'm down a man- amphibian... thing.  Or, maybe his Koyat will take his spot.

I keep seeing people say this, but I'm pretty sure it's a non-starter.

That's a LOT of voice work to have two versions of dialogue for every character, depending on whether it's an 'original' or 'replacement'. Even if Bioware had infinite time and money to write double dialogue for every character AND hire the voice actors for it, it would be such an insane amount of audio that the game would be 10 discs on the 360 and PC (which I guess is only like 4 on the PS3).

Not saying there won't be some replacements, but I seriously wouldn't count on every dead member having a doppleganger.

It'll probably be like what happens if you kill off Wrex. Wreav takes the krogan in a different and less stable direction, and will probably be less of a help in ME3. Main missions will probably be the same, but I would expect that without that loyal friend, you're not going to get as much help as you normally would.

Nor would I.  What I meant was Thane was intregal to a specific mission, then he'd need a replacement, or (what I would actually perfer) you'd need to do something different for the mission

Just as a technical note:  Shepard did.

It has been said before that if you let squad die in ME2, your game will be harder/limited by those actions.  You should still be able to win the game, but you will get there by a different path, and may not get the best ending possible.  This is the whole idea behind your choices matter, and would be an epic fail of rpg if they didn't have it this way.

Shepard had the Lazarus Project, and no one can afford that again.

Yes! That would be ideal. I can definitely see that in some cases you might have harder fights because one of your regular squaddies has to fill in for what one of the special characters would have done. Multiple completion paths would also be great (high road vs. low road kind of stuff).

Shepard:  Damn, I wish Thane was here.  He could sneak in and shut down those mechs... Well, I guess we do the direct approach.

Grunt:  I love the direct approach

Hey if Shepard can do it, why not Garrus? :innocent:
