You'd think seeing those troopers in their hilariously bulky armor they wouldn't be dying so instantly. Is that stuff just a hollowed out chunk of balsa wood or was it all due to just a huge combat bonus due to Casual mode?

I've been hoping to see armor (not the shield battery in the armor) actually do something on Shepard and their enemies... sort of like a balance between ME1's walking tanks (way too much protection, period) and ME2's paper armor (armor is nothing but a shield battery, and the shield breaks in a split second).

One thing about enemies being adequately protected is that your powers will be significantly useful. If you can just pop a couple of rounds through their terrible excuse for body armor, then the necessity of powers is reduced greatly.

Yeah, these demos usually use very imbalanced builds to make it easier for the devs to show off stuff.

I can understand they wanted it all fast and furious... but it couldn't hurt to voice my concern, I thought.

If it was, it's kind of embarrassing that the player almost died a few times.

I think that the dev in control was just so good that he made it look easy.

Probably helps that he had first-hand knowledge of the game and tons of time to practice. Casey Hudson was Tweeting about it well before E3 happened.

Live demos are normally done on the easiest difficulty, or even in god mode to showcase gameplay mechanics more easily and quickly whilst avoiding the embarrassment of death.

The enemies had no armor, shields or barriers.. so clearly was on casual or normal difficulty.

yeah, it was on a lower difficulty.

i'd imagine it'd look pretty bad if you're playing on insanity and keep dying when trying to show off a game lol

They did the same thing with the Skyrim demonstrations. A level-uped badass on a lower difficulty

Maybe this was on purpose to show the new "low health" screen :P

I dunno. He almost fragged himself with his own grenades a few times, by throwing them into walls directly in front of him.

Usually in demos like these the games play on a ridiculously easy difficulty level along with a God Mode enabled so that the protagonist doesn't die while showing off the game.

Think of it as an extreme form of public speaking

Actually, most developers often admit they are awful at playing their own games.. which is very weird... but it seems a general truth that I've observed in my years.

There's a demo out there where he has no health for a long time and keeps taking hits, I think it was on either g4tv or ign so I'm guessing it's on god mode. That and he sometimes ignores enemies standing right next to him for a while which is death in all but casual and normal.

The demonstrator played with casual/normal settings for the purpose of pacing up the demo to have it keep its action oriented appeal I'm sure. It wouldn't be so "epic" as a reveal if the action pace was slow because you're trying to survive. Also, if you die in a game at E3, it's really shameful IMO haha!

Everyone was dying fast. Enemies were dropping in two or three shots, and when Shepard did get hit, he went down to near nothing. Fairly certain it was just a demonstration build.

I remember when that 1 dude showing off that music game for PSV said " i died. I'm sorry." it wasn't that the line itself was funny it was just that he sounded so serious about it lol. I would laugh to death if some1 said that during ME 3 demo

There is always SOMEONE who asks this same stupid question, EVERY SINGLE TIME that a game is demoed.

DEMOS ARE ALWAYS IN GOD MODE.

Every single demo, for every single game, at every single press conference, ever since such demos have existed, is ALWAYS in can't die, super easy, player super powered up GOD MODE.

Have you EVER seen a player die or fail at a press conference? Even once? No. Because they make it impossible. Always. And yet there is always some one who does not understand and comes to a message board going

"The game is the easiest game ever made! Why would they make it so easy! The game is ruined!"

I remember watching a demonstration of KOTOR 2. That demo had a character in your group who wasn't supposed to be a party member at that point in the actual game. Also the main character had a lightsaber, and again at that point in the actual game you do not have your lightsaber yet. Similar thing here. It's showing off new features, nothing more.

I was disappointed by the lack of headshots but the OP brings up a fair question. Haven't the devs said that the new normal mode is basically the equivalent of veteran mode in ME2? I hope that's still true, if the two games play so similarily there's a good chance that I'll play on a much harder difficulty than usual on the first run.

The trailers were likely done in the default setting of a game that is not balanced yet.

Plus, they were done by professional game developers who have played those demos umpteen million times to look good for the press and cameras.

Why do you ask? ;)
