I wish I could find a post relevant to this. I've tried various keyword searchs to no avail.  Anyway..

I'm really rather disappointed that my choices reflected in the Arrival DLC are going to be deliberately ignored.  In my case, I both saved the Batarians as well as destroyed the relay.  As I understand it.. the start of Mass Effect 3 Shepard is going to be on trial for killing those 300k Batarians.  Now, I realize it's possible that even though I warned them and did everything I could to save them they might still have died.  That's an unfortunate given.  It's also Bioware's story to tell however they feel. However, since they go out of their way to make choices in the series meaningful.. it would be nice if they didn't just toss my decisions out the window because it doesn't fit with their storyline.  Especially when it wasn't a critical part of the base game in the first place.  I don't know. I'm just disappointed that in this particular instance my choices won't matter.

Thanks.

While I usually would agree that they are taking away most of our choices in terms of game events and dialogue, this instance I would have to disagree. They wanted to start Mass 3 at a specific point, therefore it was necessary for this certain DLC. I don't remember much from the DLC, I've only played it once, but from what I could remember they still died because the relay exploded and cut them off from the rest of the galaxy, or something like that.

Like LOTSB, Arrival is bridging content. This means there are basically no choices, as it has to be done and completed in a way such that it is seamlessly integrated into ME3 for all possible versions of the story. That's why there was no choice in it.

I'm afraid you /didn't/ save the Batarians. Kenson cut off the transmission just before you could warn them - only thing you did was to incriminate yourself. (besides, there was not enough time left to even begin evacuation anyway.)

Nope you may have tried to warn them but you were still the cause of 300k Batarians and that is what you are on trial for.

Well, I sent the message. IIRC It wasn't cut off and as far as I was aware of I managed to warn them. Perhaps not exactly in time considering the circumstances though... ;)

Also, I understand at some level why Bioware did what they did... In a nut shell, my own personal belief is that I never willingly sacrificed them and my Shepard shouldn't get dragged over the coals for it. I still think it's an insult.

Oh well.

Even if he didn't want to kill them your Shepard still knowingly killed them in order to stall the reaper invasion.

You may get additional dialogue where those putting you on trial say something along the lines of "We have taken into consideration your attempt at warning the Batarians, but it does not excuse you from the deaths that are on your hands"

This is the section where you warn the colonists

Just because you didn't intentionally sacrificed them doesn't mean you shouldn't answer for it.

I still don't get why he's on trial at all since Shepard at this point can still be a spectre and why it would take place on earth. But as stated before, its game bridging DLC and those batarians still died even if you did warn them.

The council could say you went rogue and take your specter status away to keep the peace, remember they don't believe that the Reapers are real until after ME3 starts

Unfortunately, they're dead either way. If the reapers had used the relay or if Shepard destroys it. Image IPB

Don't think Shepard will stand trial, according to the ME3 trailer Shepard haven't reached earth when the reapers arrived
