I think Zaeed was confirmed to be in the game. I haven't heard anything yet about Kasumi unfortunately and I'm starting to fear she might be the only one not returning. =( Haven't heard any news on Samara or Grunt either I don't think....

Why would she hate Ashley? She hates Miranda because she's Cerberus.

Anyways, it might depend on if Kasumi and Zaeed are considered 'canon' even if you didn't download (Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival are considered canon even if you didn't play them).

Major characters and the other members of the ground team? They are all returning, in one way or another. Maybe Jacob is leading his own team fighting against reaper agents. Maybe Grunt is helping out Wrex with keeping the Krogans in line or sexing up the Krogan princess. We'll just have to wait.

I'm another who'd feel gutted if Kasumi didn't make an appearance,
I thought she'd layed down a nice side story, with the whole stashed
potentially harmful info, maybe she could be kidnapped/abducted type
thing and you could go and rescue her, would be ace.

She had some great dialogue too, not to mention how invaluable her
shadowstrike would be, found her skills well useful for taking out
rocket firing bad guys off in the distance.

All squadmates and most key characters will return. Squadmates or not.

And yes, Zaeed will be around, do check the appropriate thread.

Seriously... How many more of these threads do we need? BioWare has already said EVERYBODY is coming back to some extent in Mass Effect 3. They didn't say "everybody but blah" or "blah is coming back and blah is not", EVERYBODY. Why is this so hard to grasp?

As for squad mates, that's a whole different story. I think we're looking at six squadmates, maximum. So probably not. They'll all be in the game though.

I'm torn on Kasumi and Zaeed. I want them back because I paid for them, but it doesn't really fit with the story because Cerberus just hired them on as mercenaries to help you with one mission in ME2.

Aaaww imagine Kasumi with rocket boots,, shadowstrike with rocket boots,
takes off with screwdriver in hand off into the distance, short time later,
reapers leg falls off, after a short period of wonky trundlings, reaper falls over,
harraaaayyy much rejoicing, Kasumi returns, backflip, tripple salco, pirouette,
perfect landing, cheeky grin from beneath the hood, all is well.
A few hours of that, reaper threat is over, you pootle through wreckage
salvage each reaper for 7500 credits a piece, maybe that's why she's
not a squadmate this time around.

It depends on the choices you made in ME 2. In my savegame, ALL survived the suicide mission. And on live stream, the guy who answered the different questions said the same thing. It depends on your choices and who survived the suicide mission.

So if you managed to keep your team alive during the suicide mission, you might see them all. If some died.. well they stay dead. Similar to Wrex. When you kill him on Virmire, he won't return in ME 2. You will have to negotiate with Urdnot Wreav (who is a ****) instead.

Those who died on the Suicide Mission, Saren, the Collector General, Conrad Verner if he was killed, Nihlus, the one who died on Virmire, Helena Blake if you killed her, keeper #21, Jenkins, Benezia, the Thorian, Wilson, Dr. Kenson, those 300,000 Batarians, the Shadow Broker (the one before Liara)...

...I could list the rest of the people from the wiki, but I don't feel like it.

That's a team of five, and they said the squad would be in between the six of ME1 and the 12 of ME2. So probably 8 or 10. So that being said:
Non Squaddies, or Temp:
Anderson
Wrex
Mordin
Legion

And I doubt any new characters will be available for the squad besides Vega, so characters left:
Zaeed
Katsumi
Miranda
Jacob
Jack
Grunt
Samara
Thane

So pick three more from this list for the game, and probably one DLC. Because one DLC character has been confirmed to be Prothean, or something like that, I don't know all the details.

The dead ones. ME2 had everyone who had survived in ME1, in some way, so ME3 will have every living character, as cameos, emails, temporary squad members or whatever.

All characters will return in some form (even Zaeed and Kasumi - probably only if you actually had them though). Some will be permanent squad members whereas others will likely be temporary (certain missions). Then some will simply appear in the game.

I personally don't see Thane or Samara being squadmates at all. Jesse Houston said ME3 takes place 6-12 months after ME2 so Thane is practically dead by that point. Samara said many times if she survived the suicide mission, she would go back to fighting injustices.

Also the Prothean squadmate rumour is very speculative... I also wouldn't go as far to say there's a confirmed DLC squadmate.

I hope Legion is a permanent squad mate, but I'll be happy if he's even just temporary. I didn't see the video, but I saw screen shots of him on a Quarian ship and also at the Cerberus/Geth base, so if those aren't part of the same mission, he might be permanent.

She also says in her very last lines of dialogue "you may call on me anytime" (or words to that effect).
Though I'm in agreement that it is unlikely she'll be a full time squad member, I hope I still get to use
reave as my bonus power, area reave would be very handy after viewing the game footage,
many of the husks were in tight packs.

The ship Legion was piloting seemed to be quite gethy, maybe he has his own ship,

If they survived they are returning. Kasumi and Zaeed included. Their role is depends on how you interacted with them. This was confirmed in today's video.

Yeah in his plastic replica armour his wife help pay for.

He'd probably be full of arguments n that after you stitched him up on Illium,
hate being all picky n pedantic, but it's Conrad Verner.
