This is always a strange move as the game save is tied to the user profile anyway. Hoepfully, like Capcom did with RE5, Bioware will do it for this.

It shouldnt even be copy protected in the first place, it doesnt prevent anything since this is not an online game so theres no cheating or hacks to prevent from happening.

When it comes to a single player game the data should be the player's own to move about or do with as they please, I too want them to fix this as my level 20 mage became useless when my PS3 stopped reading discs the day after I finished the game, I now have to start from scratch on a new PS3 and I shouldnt have to.

If you have finished the game (i.e. the game has ended with the final movie) you'll need to start the game from scratch again. Sorry about your PS3...

You misunderstood, hes talking about the character save that is on the hard drive, we are not allowed to copy it, or do anything with it, character save data not the game's copy protection but the actually physical character save data which for some reason we are not allowed to copy independtly from backing up the entire hard drive.

So its

The only way to back it up is to do a full backup of the entire hard drive using sonys backup software located under your settings tab.

I hope they remove it too. I usually backup all my saves manually and I can't do that with this game :(

I just finished the game, and usually when I complete a game I like to back up the save game just incase something terrible happens to my system. It sucks I cant back the save game up and I hope they remove the lockout.

I agree please remove, I don't even know why they implement this, it just inconveniences the gamer.

I also agree with this, especially with a game of this size – if your PS3 breaks and you get it replaced then DA:O will need to be started from scratch.

I use the systems back-up tool anyway so it doesn't bother me personally, but not everyone has (or at least big enough) External HDD with enough space to set aside in FAT32 for a PS3 back-up.

I agree. When I put this much time into a game, I would like the security of being able to back up my game saves. Please consider changing this.

Please add my voice to the others. I dont understand the logic behind this in the first place. I do even want to think about getting to near the end of the game and then having to start over becaue something happened to my PS3.

My PS3 stopped reading disks about a week into playing the game, I have to send it back to sony and cannot back up my games or play them on another machine while its being repaired. Please remove the copy protection.

i think they just hate ps3 users.....its starting to make more sense ever since someone discovered that the dragon dlc armor has **** stats compared to the PC and XBOX.....i think bioware or ea hates the ps3 :(

the only thing i would say is that sadly very very few of my ps3 games actually allow me to copy data from one ps3 to another. sadly, i wish we still had memory cards. bizarre choice by sony/game makers(in general).
i lived without tophies...and local multiplayer has been forgotten which is completely opposite to the aims of online multiplayer - meet people, enjoy yr game with friends?
i think it is something ps3 users may have to get used to sadly. i didnt think this would copy, so i havent even tried yet.

I guess I can understand that they don't want people hacking the saves to boost their stats/etc.?  (Transfer it to a PC, whack away with ye ole Hexxe Editor, and there you go; provided the save isn't encrypted, which it probably is.)  Or to prevent people from sharing saves for easy trophies?  (Sure, trophies are kinda fun, and sure, there are undoubtedly plenty of people who want to cheat to get them easily, but fundamentally they don't matter.  And other developers don't seem to have that problem, as has been mentioned.)  Or something?

But seriously, come on.  All you have succeeded in doing is pissing off (at least some of) your PS3 customers (even more, counting the stats on the Blood Dragon armor).  I was planning on upgrading my hard disk at some point.  NOW I CAN'T, without restarting the game from scratch.  (I suppose I could try tooling around with utilities by connecting the thing to my PC, but seriously, that's a whole lot of trouble to go through for something that shouldn't be a problem to begin with.)  I bought the collector's edition for PS3 because my PS3 game library is limited (due to limited budget).  I was PLANNING on buying the regular edition for my PC as well at a later date (next year perhaps) for the toolset and the robust user-created content that will be available in the future.

Maybe I'll spend my hard-earned money on some other company's games in the future.  Or maybe it'll get patched and be a moot point.

Still.  What happened, BioWare?  You used to be cool.

. o O (So, wait. Which forum profile is supposed to show all your registered BioWare games?  'Cause here it only shows DA:O for mine.  Apparently.)

sadly zig, i have to say none of my ea games allow me to copy data from one ps3 to another. i think the last was fight night round 3. this is not limited to ea either as games like tekken also do not allow transfer of save data either. so whatever the reason, i cant help but feel perhaps bioware did not have the final say. although i may be wrong.

also, upgrading the hard drive on the ps3 has to include copying data to the pc and then to the new drive. i cant think of a different way to do it? only yr psn purchases and trophies are linked to yr user id on the system. my friend had to get a new ps3 and had this very problem. i think that is more a sony thing.

---- ha ha...completly misunderstood the post. back to the drawing board for me! although, im sure this is becoming more common with games sadly :(.---

Most PS3 game saves are not copyright protected in this way, there are only a handful – two that I can remember are Resident Evil 5 and Tom Clancy's Endwar.

This issue really needs to be addressed, with the amount of time that we put into this game it really needs to be removed. I'm only around 18 hours in but I would be really unhappy if I had to start all over again.
