Maybe the problem is ,that for PS3 this feature has to be thoughtfully created, whereas on PC it doesnt need anything. There is no saying they ignore PS3 users i suppose.

nah I don't think they ignore their users.. I think that Sony themselves has not been very informative on how things work to developers and therfore this kind of situations occur.
As a savefile is linked to your profile it can't be missused anyhow so having it copy protected doesn't really do anything more than put the player into trouble backing up his/her save files.

Copy protection for savegames is useless - why is it forbidden to backup my stuff?

The game is , and should be played as a labour of love , but knowing my dearest could flight at any moment I'm tentative to dive right in and instead i'm demoted to an ogler or an onlooker.

Remove the lock on you heart dear Dragon Age. I want to know what love is. I want you to show me.

Please add my voice to those who call for removing this restriction. I have two PS3's and I'd like to be able to play this game on both of them without having to start over on each system.

I think this issue should be a high priority. I've already put in 25 hours and would not be very happy if my PS3 died and I had to start again.

Don't get me wrong, I am going to have multiple play-throughs maybe even as the same character but not one right after the other.

Remember that bygone age when video games were all about having fun?..

Who decided that the worst atrocity you could commit in the gaming world would be to cheat a few apocryphal trophies, and that the punishment should be to restrict and disadvantage those who want to play and enjoy the game for what it is, a game. I mean, surely it's the enjoyment of the game which should be paramount. The trophies are just a spin-off of that enjoyment. I'm really keen to see this restriction removed, more so than I am with any other issue I have with the game.

Now I don't want to resort to threats Bioware, but for every day that passes and this issue remains unresolved, I will kill a kitten. If I run out of kittens, I've spotted that the local kindergarten has invested in large number of pet gerbils. Eight I believe. If I run out of gerbils, I'm taking out that hack of an actor, Martin Lawrence. Then when he's gone, well , I have a very large back garden full of all types of wondrous critters. You are free to do the math yourselves.

I should make you aware, Martin Lawrence isn't part of the ransom. I just don't like him.

I was just going to say the same thing.  It makes no logical sense to "copy protect" a save game file that is directly tied to an online account.  The file cannot be shared, or modified or whatever without breaking that connection so "copy protecting" the save file is moot.  The only thing it does is prevent us from "time traveling" back to previous saves if we wish.  The consequences of this "copy protection" are many, with no real visible pay-off.  The game is already protected and should be so, but the save files...?!?

While I don't own the PS3 version of this game, I have many other PS3 games, and this "feature" is rediculous.

sadly zig, i have to say none of my ea games allow me to copy data from one ps3 to another. i think the last was fight night round 3. this is not limited to ea either as games like tekken also do not allow transfer of save data either. so whatever the reason, i cant help but feel perhaps bioware did not have the final say. although i may be wrong.

also, upgrading the hard drive on the ps3 has to include copying data to the pc and then to the new drive. i cant think of a different way to do it? only yr psn purchases and trophies are linked to yr user id on the system. my friend had to get a new ps3 and had this very problem. i think that is more a sony thing.

---- ha ha...completly misunderstood the post. back to the drawing board for me! although, im sure this is becoming more common with games sadly :(.---

I don't recall having any problem backing up my Dead Space saves (and that's EA).  I know that probably EA pulls all the strings now, but as a valuable asset I find it hard to believe that BioWare has zero pull.  I am aware that I am completely ignorant of the internal dynamics between the two, of course.

As I have a launch PS3, I can use CF/SD/Memory Stick cards, which work just fine for backing up most things.  The rest would be downloaded again from the PSN.  I know upgrading the hard disk would be a hassle overall, but having to start over in DA (I've got about 23 hours in, just got Shale) would be highly aggravating at best.

If there were some clear policy as to when save games cannot be backed up, or maybe a provision to upload copy-protected saves to a temporary storage area on your PSN account, that would be nice.  As it is, I'll just have to wait and hope they patch it.

. o O (All these years playing games, and FINALLY it looks like Amazon, and possibly other retailers, are actually having SALES.  Amazing.  What an age to live in.  Of course, when it comes to video game experience, I would classify myself as elder if not venerable.  Provided those don't surpass ancient.)

posted on a smaller thread before i found this one. but PLEASE remove the protection.

I just had a system failure myself. My old PS3 wouldn't read my Dragon Age disc anymore, or any other disc. Solution: Buy a new PS3. Failure: I have to play Dragon Age 4 times instead of 3 to get all the trophies... I was so close to getting the level 20 trophy too! Now I'm back at square one and very very angry at BioWare for locking the game save. All respect I had for them, just went out the window because I had 30+ hours on the game save and they FORCE me to restart.

Has anyone had a problem getting the PS3's back up utility to copy the DA:O files. I just transferred my game files from my old PS3 to a new one, and now all my saves are gone. I knew that transferring the game by itself was protected, but I was under the impression that the back up utility would transfer the save files over. I really do not want to start over, but I am getting the impression that I may have little option. Guess I should be a little more careful of what I am buying now that EA is in charge.

Unfortunately that is the case abigor60. Dragon Age saves are currently locked to your PS3 model number and so are only available on that specific unit. We can't back up our saves, nor can we transfer them to another system.

I am eager to get some form of response from Bioware on this one, as it is a issue for the development team who worked on the PS3 version and not EA. I'm interested to find out what their policy is on the matter and to why this is the case for the PS3 version. My worry is that this issue came about due to an oversight and their inexperience with the PS3 system, and will remain overlooked despite being a relatively simple issue to put right.

I started another thread on the same topic, I guess the Search Engine on this forum site must not be working very well.  Sorry, well I guess the more noise we make the better.

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/68/index/354684

I'm got some good points to check out.  Some of the info in this thread is wrong, like people saying & assuming, oh just use the Backup Utility.  While true if your restoring to the same machine but not true if you have the same machine that's been repaired (parts replaced).  It's a no go, I'm on my 2nd repair & both times the Restore did not "restore" those good old copy protected saves.

+1 patch those out

Remove copy protection! If pirates want to, then can bypass any kind of protection - you are just making players uncomfortable.

signed. I like to keep my saves...... erm..... safe. I've already had 1 failed ps3 and don't want to lose the time i've put into this game, 40+ hours so far. Please enable it so the save file can be backed up.

Love the game by the way.

I need to reformat my drive soon so I can install windows 7, hence wondering what's gonna happen with my saves...

I cheat lots, please remove it!

Joking aside, two sides to any situation. The hex editors have been prevented from doing something the developer do not WANT them to, but the genuine users have been stopped from doing stuff they SHOULD be able to do.

Depends which way you look at it....

No official word yet, come on BioWare. I've now put in almost 60 hours of time and I will be really disappointed if I lose this because you won't allow me to back up my own saves!

Don't get me wrong, I love you guys and the games you make are some of my all-time favs but please please please do something about this. The only dev I've seen patching the protection out of a game (so far) is Capcom when they did it with Resident Evil 5. So at least we know that it is possible – please BioWare, do the same thing.

Much love and thankyou.

i think the issue is for PS3 players is that they don't want people cheating to get TROPHIES....just think about it

it only takes like 3 save files to get 75% of the trophies since all you need is 1 male, 1 female, and the 3 main classes....everything else you can do easily making random characters in different origins to get the rest of the trophies to get platinum...so that may be the issue itself
