Will Grunt and Legion be returning as permanent squadmates?

This is the major issue I want to be resolved, regarding Mass Effect 3 squadmates.

Grunt and Legion are my favorite ME2 squadmates and I want them to return as "full squadmates".
That is, I want them to be available all the time to take on missions, not once off missions like Liara and Shadow or whatever Redshirt doesn't survive the Mass Effect tutorial mission.

So, will Grunt and Legion return as full squadmates in ME3?

And please don't discuss the relative merits of other squadmates vs Grunt and Legion, I would like this thread to be purely about the possibility of these two returning and that discussion would derail the purpose of the thread too much.

I think there have been indications that Legion is only a temporary squadmate. No official word on either of them, though. In fact, we haven't heard a peep about Grunt, and I really want him back. :(

Hmm.. I've been wondering about Grunt. If you read your messages in the terminal after doing Grunt's Rite of Passage. The Shaman asks that you watch over Grunt and that the clan needs him back after the mission. It could be possible that Grunt goes back to Tuchanka to stay with the Urdnot. Grunt may be helping out with clan duties and it could be possible that Grunt would be taking over for Wrex if Wrex is to be out in the Salarian homeworld getting the "precious cargo" as seen in the game-play footage. Also something to consider is that Shepard is Grunt's battlemaster. Grunt is obligated to Shepard in a sense to be there with him till the end. It's unclear whether he'll be a temp or perm squad member. I'll guess that you'll be able to have Grunt play alongside you again.

Imagine Wrex AND Grunt with you! :o Plus with Kinect's voice recognition, it can be a 3-way

Shepard: Wrex
Wrex: Shepard
Grunt: Wrex
Wrex: Grunt
Shepard: Grunt
Wrex and Grunt: Shepard you ruined it!
Shepard: Sorry it's been a long time since I've done that! Plus it's a 3-way.

One thing that makes me worry for Grunt is the introduction of James Vega as a 'tank' type character. Why have a human tank character unless you can't get a krogan? :/

Wasn't Ashley in ME1 also a 'tank'?

She was the Soldier in a group more clearly defined by their class. With talk of Vega being built like a linebacker and that picture of him in really bulky armor, he seems more like the group 'brute' than Ash was.

Why have Ash then?  I mean she was a soldier.  I have no idea why, but part of me wonders if that female krogan could be a squaddie?  I know her being in shadows just adds to the mystery of female aliens that everybody has been requesting, but it was could also be a cool way to tease us with a new squaddie without us even realizing it.  There is currently 0 evidence for this idea, but I think it's kinda cool, and it also solves the "generic" krogan complaint some people had about Grunt.  I actually like Grunt more than Wrex so I'm curious to see what became of him, but even so.  I like this idea.

Like Casey said, they'll all have their moments to shine. Beyond that, it's all speculation.

Grunt was a generic Krogan?
To me, he wasn't!
He was actually a very smart Krogan, he wasn't fooled by Uvenk's scam and he talks sometimes about advanced technology, so I would guess he's actually a lot more intelligent then he appears to be.

I don't know what Ashley will be like in ME3, but I'm hoping she's a tanking Soldier, much like she was in ME1.

As for James Vega, I went down this road with Zaeed and not looking to repeat it again.
Basically, Massani was substituted for Ashley and he wasn't half as good.
Now, it looks like I'm getting the same deal with James replacing Grunt.

Sigh, I just can't win!

Heck, even Legion is a better Soldier then anyone (except Grunt, Wrex and ME1 Ashley), even if he's a Sniper, due to his Shielding Power (which emulates Soldier capablilities) and his use of an assault rifle.

*sits back and remembers when I actually had a real Soldier based squad in ME1"

I want Grunt back. He's like the bulky, scaly, homicidal child I never had.

Because I let Legion get killed.

That e-mail you get from Shaman Urdnot after Grunt's loyalty mission seems to mean that he's going back to Tuchanka to help out Clan Urdnot - assuming he survives the Suicide Mission.

Grunt isn't generic, his violence doesn't mean he's dumb. Legion is the one squaddie who hasn't been confirmed who I desperately want back. We will run into legion during the "reaper base" sequence perhaps that is where you recruit him. I wouldn't say no to grunt coming back I liked his might makes right philosophy, but given the choice I'd pick Wrex as my permanent squaddie any day. Given that 5 squaddies have been confirmed already and bioware has said there will be fewer than 12 I reckon that the squad will be 8 strong with 2 more as DLC giving us 10 in total.

It seems like Legion will be temporary. I could see Grunt being permanent though, we're short one Krogan on our confirmed characters so far. Besides.... where else would Grunt go? He was just born, not like he has much else to do lol.

Yeah, he's like a duck. His imprinting of the first person he saw (in our case, Shepard) allows him to love us no matter what we do. I hope he makes me a grandfather because I want lot's of krogan grandchildren, or asari grandchildren. Whomever he sleeps or embraces eternity with is fine with me.

So, what could happen on that "Reaper base" mission if you let Legion die? I'm sure it could be interesting to find out.

Damn it, I hate these things. But you need to hear this.

You're part of Grunt's krannt [sic], and you're his leader. So keep him alive. Here, I have to stay polite, play the role. But our people are dying. Krogan have always valued survival over tradition. If we're going to survive as a people, we need your vat-grown Grunt. Okeer was a madman, but he was a madman with a plan, and that's more than most have on this ball of rock.

So bring him back from your damn mission. My people need him. And if you all get killed, I'll ****** on your graves.

1. Liara (My LI, my fav squaddie)
2. Ashley/kaiden (the super friends alliance is back in action)
3. Tali (glad to see her back)
4. Garrus (my right hand man)
5. James vega (nice to see a new face)
6. Predicted: grunt (my ultra violent go-to tank)
7. predicted: legion (one of the most awesome squaddies)
8. predicted: Miranda/jack (these two will have another cat fight just you watch)
9. Day 1 DLC character (rumors say it's a prothean but I'm not sure)
10. 2nd DLC character (perhaps the so called "vigilante"?)

At least one of them if not both. Krogan party member is necessary. And dont forget Wrex is a biotic and Grunt isnt. Would be a good thing to have ability to choose.

I'd rather have Wrex instead of Grunt. Any way it goes, the squad needs at least 1 Krogan in it.
Legion was said not to be a squad mate in the first magazine that did a ME3 preview. But who knows how reliable an article can be about a game that is still 9 months away.

Just a quick guess maybe if Grunt survived this Krogan princess is for him. You know female unaffected by the genophage, and the perfect krogan. Make the Krogan stronger.
