I'm genuinely hoping that light and medium armor do make a comeback,  but I disagree with a penalty to heavy armor, especially if it is restricted to the soldier class.  It might make sense to add a penalty for wearing the heavy stuff to tech and biotic users, but a soldier should be able to shoulder the weight no problem, because that is what their combat implants are geared towards doing, regardless of whether it is a male/female Shepherd.  I think that would be a sensible approach.

I like that.  It makes sense and would make the soldier more unique.  Going with that idea, maybe soldier has no drawbacks for heavy armor, vanguard and infiltrator have minor movement/accuracy impariments, and adepts, sentinels and engineers have greater drawbacks (of course, not to the point of heavy armor not being a viable option for them).

I felt ME 2 just made it so squadmates wore whatever they were designed to wear, regardless of class. Miranda, Jack, Mordin, Jacob, Tali, Samara, Kasumi and Thane are all in what basically amounts to light armor (at best). Grunt is in heavy armor, I guess. I suppose Garrus is in medium armor. Legion isn't wearing armor. Zaeed is...I don't know actually. Could be heavy or medium.

Actually Garrus wears something that resembles heavy Turian armor from ME1 (see Pinnacle station in all of its "glory")

Also, Shepard's default armor in ME2 is most similar to medium armor in ME1, go back and play and you will see what I'm talking about.

Anyone actually checked the Fall of Earth trailer, 0.57, like I suggested? Clear shot of what appears to be light armour

Actually, armor size did impact weapon bloom. Heavier armor caused firing reticules to bloom more and take longer to restore to normal (points in that armor specializaiton however lowered this penalty). You were more accurate firing in light armor than heavy, for example.

Never noticed. Whil you may be right, the feature wasn't impactful.

Just checked it out, the armor looks good.  Not very armored, but still looks like it gives ok protection.  For heavy armor, maybe something akin to what the Cerberus assault troopers and Centurion were wearing?

It was not heavy in ME 2!  It was medium!  Look up the scene with Conrad Verner.  The armor that Conrad is wearing, ironically, is the heavy armor.  The armor that Shepard is wearing, is medium.  You can tell by the arms and shoulders.

I'm sorry.  I don't want to sound like I'm angry or anything, but I've had to tell people this before.

I would like to be able to wear heavy armor again in ME 3.  I don't feel quite right unless my armor is big and bulky.

I remember the armor from Conrad's scene, yes. I know quite a few guys on pc mod that back in to use as their Shepard's armor too.

My impression, however, was that they are both Heavy. (At least judging the female variants).

And as you don't feel quite right unless your armor is big and bulky, I don't feel quite right unless mine is form fitting and sleek looking ;). Hopefully both of us will have options to costumize our characters to our tastes in ME3 :).

To be bluntly honest, I don't care what reasoning/lore they use to explain it. I am more drawn to eye candy than I am to hard sci-fi and mechanics. Light offering more mibility/less encumberance/bonus to power cooldowns while heavy various damage resistances/absorb and such is sound enough.

For me it's a style thing, more so than 'bring back old rpg armor classification' thing. It irritated me that in ME2 every other female companion/npc of significance looked better than my character.

Kasumi had a beautiful light suit. So did Liara. Even Miranda's armor from DLC looked lighter and better than Shepard's. Morinth's asari leathers were amazing, and I mod them in to use on my adepts/infiltrators every single time.

Now, I know this is a prefence thing, and I know many who are perfectly satisfied with bulkier ME2 look. That's fine, but I don't like to be limited to only one visual style.

I agree, I hope we get a choice in armor size.

I started a small thread on armor here: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/323/index/7582292/1#7582454

The first pic kind of reminds me of a mix of Medium and light armor. The second picture is the good old Medium armor from Mass Effect 2.

It's very noticeable if you cheated on PC and used command console to equip yourself heavy armor at the start of ME1 when you didn't even have access to the heavy armor skill yet... firing an assault rifle, sniper rifle and shotgun became more ridiculous than it already was in the first stage of ME1 ^_^ The moment you took it off and switched to light, you could at least suddenly use assault rifles to some decent degree again.

i dont need armor to be light or heavy, just give me more of something similar to ME2s options. whether its like chestplates and heavy snowpants i dont care. just give a few options a bunch of people can appreciate and add more through DLC.

If Ashley can be excused and have fans find all types of reasons it's okay to wear what she's wearing now, I want the same option for Shepard. Especially since mine is an Infiltrator.

/high fives OP and totally agree.

These are the pics of what I would like to see that I had posted in the ME2 forum pre E3:

/brokenrecord on

One of my bigger gripes in ME2 was lack of lighter looking armor varieties. As I've said over and over in other threads similar to this one: default heavy looks fine for more combat oriented classes, but not so much for stealth/tactical ones.

/brokenrecord off

I definately want more lighter-looking armor options. Hell, I'd pay for them.

Just adding my support  to the pile of modded armor pictures:

This is true I'm getting so desperate I'm even prepared to shell out extra for these suits. Though we shouldn't have to.
The mere fact that there are mods out there should be a good indication there's people who would LOVE this. Image IPB

at 0.57, the armour looks pretty "light" to me :)

Right but was that Shepy? I hope so, wish someone would throw us a bone. Image IPB
