Disclaimer:

I realize the comics aren't particularly popular with some fans. Heck, they're admittedly my least favorite aspect of the franchise. But they're still worth discussing. Please try to keep the discussion relatively positive; we've had enough Evolution-bashing threads for one forum.

It seems pretty obvious that between the Collectors Edition Mass Effect 3 package mentioning we'll be getting the first issue of a new comic and Mac Walters doing more patting-on-the-backs for Dark Horse via twitter a few days ago, we'll be seeing something new. Inevitable, really -- but there's no time like the present to start speculating.

My guess is that it will have something to do with the fall of Earth and David Anderson's role in things. This is all 100% fan-theorizing, of course, as we probably won't know more for several months and for all we know BioWare will shock us and make Anderson a full-time squadmate or kill him in the prologue or something. But here goes nothing. And yes, it's written from a faux-marketing buzz-heavy perspective, so don't take my shot in the dark as what I want to see so much as what I'm guessing we'll see.

MASS EFFECT REVOLUTION

Earth is burning.

David Anderson, renowned war hero
. Kahlee Sanders, best and brightest. Together they've uncovered dark and perilous mysteries, but in the wake of a full-scale invasion by a hyper-intelligent race of sentient machines known only as the Reapers, they will be caught in the crossfire of a desperate fight to prevent the extinction of humanity.

Time is running out. With Commander Shepard searching the galaxy's every corner for a fleet to stop the Reapers, Anderson and Sanders must turn inward amidst a hellish battlefield seeking ways to combat a nigh-unstoppable force. Aided by a ragtag resistance of wounded veterans and war orphans alike, can the team find a weakness in their timeless enemy's attacks?

If they succeed, Shepard will come back in time to launch the mission that will determine the fate of every being in the Milky Way Galaxy. If they fail...

There won't be an Earth left to save.

I'll keep this bumped for some time.

For some reason (probably my getting ready for work while typing) I neglected to mention that, of course, everyone else should feel free to partake in their own musings, haha.

I don't know, I mean, so far, disregarding their technical quality, the plot of the comics/books and general tie-ins have been there to supplement the main story arc as it progressed to its peak. In ME3, the Reapers ARE invading, and there's little time for side-stories exploring backgrounds and additional lore. And if there's a potential weakness in the Reapers to be exposed, I'd rather have Shepard/squad find out about it in-game rather then have it handed to me by outside tie-ins.

That's my five cents on this.

I would too, LGTX. I'm thinking more along the lines that, in that completely made-up blurb, Anderson and Sanders would discover something while Shepard and team discover twenty-five somethings. It's just that they can't market the comic like that. XD

I'm wondering, then, what kinds of totally-to-the-sides the comics could cover and still raise hype for ME3. Lots of possibilities.

Well, we have Deception resolving the Gillian issue and potentially revealing if the Idenna expedition (I don't know if I got the name right, I mean the ship quarians sent to that unexplored region of space in Ascension) found anything, maybe even relevant to the Reapers. But I'm not sure about doing something new...

I see your point, though, about Anderson and Kahlee discovering something relatively minor but still meaningful to, well, maybe not DEFEATING the Reapers, but probably understanding them more. Or maybe we could get a full-blown prequel with Protheans and everything? I really have no idea. But I somehow feel off with tie-ins meddling with ME3 directly.

And yes, I know you've asked to be tolerant about Dark Horse, but they really have a way of mishandling the universe.

How long is this comic? Anyone knows?

Maybe a prequel or something with all the reaper ships coming in orbit (live action trailer mentioned that they were there for a while, no? can't quite remember), certain people (I'm thinking Anderson, VS and Vega?) are trying to tell the Alliance to open their damn eyes and finally announce the Reaper threat.

Ah, who am I kidding. I stink at this. And so does Darkhorse. (I couldn't resist.)

Casey has been hinting that there is a lot going on in the galaxy when the Reapers arrive, there could be all sorts of politicial issues going down between the different species (maybe some we've known about before, maybe some new tensions are flaring up altogether).

It would make sense to reveal what Anderson and Kahlee have been up to but if I recall, Anderson is on the cover of Deception so.. he may be getting a role there. There's not a huge time gap between ME2 and ME3 but Shepard was sort of out of the loop regarding things happening in Citadel space since her/his resurrection so really there could be all kinds of interesting plot lines going on now.

I'd like to see the results of that one short comic they did for Captain Bailey (Inquisition or something?). Love getting my hands on the political stuff that goes on in the lore.
