Every time I attempt to start Mass Effect 2, I get the "has been interrupted/has timed out" message, and then the whole game freezes up when I hit okay. Anyone else with similar issues?
Connection to the Mass Effect servers has timed out - and then crash.

A quick search would have given you your answer. Part of it is related to Vista/Win7, another part f it is a problem at EA's end.
If you run Vista/Win7, you need to open up a command prompt, and type in the following command.
If it still times out after thhat, then it is a problem at EA's end which they dont appear to be hurrying up to fix. Contact EA support and add your voice to the growing horde of discontented customers who have this problem. In te mean time, you can bypass the problem by disabling the automatic login under the online options through the ingame settings.
If it still crashes, the post a full problem report as detailed in the "Read First" thread.

I like the unnecessary condescension considering I did a decent hour's worth of searching before posting the thread and gotten precisely nothing. None of the problems I saw listed the crashing as a symptom, and I tried all the fixes I found.
However, after putting in the lucky correct version of my query I finally managed to find something that seems to work.

heh. Just realised it didnt paste the command into the text field when I thought it did.
netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled
Will solve one part of the login problem. The other part which has to do with EA's server ersources, is still a problem.
