Jacob is the King! I used him for every mission that I could. It would suck for him to just fade away because others don't like him.

I'm pretty sure he dies five minutes into ME3. Didn't they say that he wasn't returning as a squadmate?

From what I understand Jacob will not be a permanent squadmate in ME3, but he might have a cameo.  Personally I never used Jacob and at the beginning ,when I had no choice, I wanted to shoot him myself and Miranda as well, neither one of them seemed to understand the concept of "take cover you idiot your getting shot !"

I dont think any ME2 perm-squadmate will be ME3 perm-squadmates because they are all potentialy dead.

I dont think bioware is gonna get the voice actor and all the many dialogue options and story lines for a character that might not be in your game at all. On top of doing that, they'd have to do the whole thing twice for (say Jacob's) replacement character in case he's dead.

So, Im guessing 3-4 all new squadmates + VS, Liara and Vega.

Also, any ME2 romance will be turned into a 1-night stand and the only possible cross-game romances you will be able to continue are Liara, Ash, or Kaiden for the same reasons as above.
I mean you had 6 possible different new romance options in ME2. While bioware can, and likely will, pay lipservice to these in ME3, they arent going to devote large amounts of programing space (and squad space) to all of them. And since it's all or none, its going to be none.

I wish it were otherwise because I want Jack back but, Ill be shocked if Im wrong.

But Garrus and Tali ae already confirmed as perma-squaddies, even though they can die in ME2.

I think assuming Jacob isn't dead he'll rejoin the Alliance and help you out at some point on one mission or another.

What do you see for him? I'm really hoping that he rejoins the Alliance (if Shepard can get reinstated, so can he; they went off the grid at around the same time and both worked with Cerberus), either as a leader in the Corsairs or back as a First Lieutenant (or promoted to Lieutenant Commander?). Maybe there's a Spectre nomination in it for him after at the end of ME3?

On the other hand, might he (and Miranda, if she lives) attempt to usurp The Illusive Man after he turns on Shepard, and reform Cerberus? It's no more of a long shot than your nerdy archaeologist friend killing a Vanguard Spectre and viciously hunting down the most powerful information broker in the universe.

 Realistically, I get the feeling he'll be relegated to something really boring; possibly just a cameo and not even a mission as a temporary squadmate.

Jacob always struck me as being particularly eager to achieve a noble death. Maybe that's what's in store for him? He might, on one mission, give his life so that Shepard+co can succeed.

I don't think there's going to be much of an alliance to join; They seemed to be getting annihilated pretty thoroughly within the opening sequence of the game.

I'm going to guess he'll appear with Miranda and perhaps Jack fighting Cerberus and you gotta help them. Or not.
