I think it would be a little annoying if they include voice activation for Kinect and the PC wouldn't support it.

99% positive they won't have it for PC, as I'm sure Xbox has exclusivity so people have more incentive to specific buy Kinect.

Sadly, you're likely right, but I'm not spending several hundred bucks just to talk to my squaddies.

Lets be honest though voice activation while nice and I'm amusing kinetic has already learnt your voice and the game doesn't have to learn it, is the least I thought they would do with it.

I thought the gun and Armour customization would at least be done with it., Imagine picking up parts moving them round combining them with Kinect, and even Move with some tactile feedback there.

Spinning and zooming the galaxy map, navigating the email, hacking/bypassing using haptic controls just (almost) as they are seen in game would have been really cool.

But all we get is voice control. Okay thats still cool in a way but add in the other stuff and it would have been really hot everyone would want it.

I mentioned those ideas to my mum the other day and she wanted to try it and she is a pc and playstation fan girl.

In the EA interview (if I find the video again, I will link it), they were asked, "can't we just use our normal headsets?" And the response was no. EA let it slip a little that not only would you control dialogue, and in game commands....but the kinnect could also be used for the galaxy map and other things that they could not mention.

edit: here is the link

It seems like it would be clunky and impractical, although it's entirely possible, Google already have voice recognition software and so does Microsoft, both of which have been released on the pc, it could simply use one of those systems, however Microsoft probably put this in as an exclusive. (which is beyond me because frankly, anyone willing to pay £150 for a kinect, just to use voice control for mass effect 3 is an idiot)

It may not be officially supported, but I'd bet there will be a mod that enables this feature pretty soon after game's release.

Particularly painful because the Unreal Engine has had its own voice recognition functionality since all the way back in 2004. Would've been possible no matter the platform.

And what's more, this means Mass Effect 3 is being delayed for everyone who doesn't have a 360, for absolutely nothing.

Does it really matter if the PC version supports "voice controlling" or "voice activation"? I couldn't care less.

And I don't feel like talking to my squaddies.

That's kinda weird, y'know. Talking to a PC, just like that.

It looks silly. :? Especially when the AI isn't doing what you want to do.

Screaming at your monitor, just like that... And then, ragequit.

I would accept Dialogue only
that just seems really cool to me... Giving squad orders to but that might be a little harder

What's wrong with the keyboard+mouse? Wouldn't change those for voice commands, ever.

There better be.  Exclusives are BS and should be against anti-trust law.

The voice activation will not understand Yorkshire, but I want it in my PC version so I can try it anyway.

YOU CAN ALREADY DO THIS

People have been doing this on PC for years. It's bizarre how one stupid kinect demo has suddenly made it desirable... but anyway...

The last time I did this I used a bit of software called Shoot. I just googled it and it's still available, here. As you can see from the version history, people have been using it for over a decade.

In ME2 you can use this to give voice commands to powers and squad movement, if you really want to.

:huh:

You're welcome?

Personally I don't see it as being that useful in a shooter, especially one with such poor AI as the ME games, but it's great for something like a sub sim or a flight sim, in which you typically have to navigate enormous menus or memorize dozens of keys that give commands to AI crewmen or wingmen.

It didnt have any ME profiles, but I grabbed a copy of it anyway. WIll see how hard/easy it is to get it up and running, but applying medigel would be about the limit of what i would use it for, and given my response to being severely wounded, that will probably be the activation command.

One thing people need to understand, is that implementing Kinect voice commands is EASY. It's just as easy as implementing any other controller support, since given hardware ALREADY HAS voice detection algorithms the developers can work with. Implementing headset voice command controls though, they are a PAIN, since the devs need to work with the programming code from the ground up, and waste unnecessary manpower which they could use to further polish the game. It's not a "port-friendly" feature.

The profiles are just XML. Just grab one of the others and edit it, it's easy, they look like this:

<command name="Medigel" phrase="unity">
<key type="U" />
</command>
