Personally, the option of speaking to my squaddies doesn't appeal to me, at all. As far as conversation goes, it seemed jarring in that video, to see the guy say one line, and Shepard say another. It's like, you're not Shepard at that point, you're some guy/girl who whispers in Shepard's ear. I find it gimmicky, but that's me.
