So, by now most people who follows Star Wars: The Old Republic, knows thats the Digital Version will be Exclusive to EA's Origin Client.

Considering the fact that in the past 6 months+ pretty much every EA game that came with a Digital Deluxe Edition, have been excluded from Steam, Dead Space 2 and the new Need For Speed Games (HP and Shift 2)

Pretty much every newer Bioware game have had some sort of Deluxe Edition (DAO and ME2) and was indeed released on Steam along with their Standart counterparts, except for Dragon Age 2.

I'm afraid that Mass Effect 3 is going down the same road as EA's others games, and will exclude the Digital Delux Edition from Steam, and make it a Origins Exclusive, or in worste case, make the entire game a Origins Exclusive.

I ask, that this does indeed NOT becomes the case.

I know my words are shallow in this matter, and that what we say on the forums, might, and most likely will not change a thing.
But i would like to hear peoples opinions on the matter, and hopefully some kind of statement from Bioware about the possibility that the Digital Edition coming to Steam or not.

It would be nice to avoid another "Edition wont come to steam because we dint get the deal done in time" that we had with DA2<_<

I had thought about buying Star Wars: The Old Republic... it looks a little interesting (eventhough I promised myself never to play a MMO again after quitting WoW 6-7 months ago)...

I was also planning to preorder the best version of ME3 from Steam that shows up.

I do not want another software with a game library on my computer.. just like I do not use linux/windows at the same time or use different browsers for different sites... I am not gonna use different clients for different games. Also worth mentioning is that I have decided only to buy digital.. so Origin really have to prove itself to be:

1) Cheaper than Steam
2) Better technology than Steam
3) Bigger library than Steam

Currently it does not have those. So I ain't buying Star Wars: The Old Republic and I will buy whatever low version of Mass Effect 3 that comes to Steam. If it does not come to Steam I won't buy it.

I have already answered similar to this in another topic so I am repeating myself.. but that is just because they make me so pissed off with their **** :/

Normally I only read on these forums and only post when upset... this Origin thing and whole DA2 thing is just... making me sad.

This is what concerns me as well. I really don't want to have another game manager on my computer. I've already had to install and register in GfWL and RGSC in order to play GTA4(at first GTA4 via Steam was unavailable in my region), and when I've finished the game - I forgot about those. It's a good thing Rockstar excluded the mandatory use of RGSC in the latest patch.
But I don't want the same thing to happen with ME3. All my online friends, all my games, are on Steam. Including the first two ME games. Why should I need Origin? I understand that EA has to promote it's new service somehow, but it's absolutely wrong to impose it. A man should have a choice.
Still, I don't mind if they keep the CE Origin exclusive. It sounds pretty fair to me.
I am as well absolutely ready to tolerate and even have no negative feelings towards Origin, IF it remains mandatory for a game, purchased in Steam. I't wouldnt bother me if pressing the "Play" button would launch Origin with automatic authorization and then my game - without additional actions. I am OK with this, as long as I
can close it afterwards and my game remains tied with my Steam account.

Oh yeah, GTA IV and all those motherf$%*&@# applications that you had to install to run it...I remember that...:blink:shoving Origin down our throats is just wrong

I am already going to buy collector's or deluxe edition, why it's not enough? A lot of people will just download and play ME 3 without any Origin and, most importantly, without paying a single dollar at all, you know. Maybe even earlier than it reaches stores, as it happens often :bandit:

Ditto. I'll buy the base version of ME3 on steam over the  enhanced version on anything else even if they're the same price.

wait what? I got ME1 and 2 on Steam, they were the first digital games I ever got and I really appreciate having them stored in this manner, how do steam users get screwed? ME3 won't run on steam? but the character import functions don't work unless you get staem versions of all games.

I have no interest in using Origin. Normally I prefer physical copies anyway, but that is shifting recently, and there are reasons I'd pick a digital version. If it does end up using Origin only for digital, or if all copies require activation through it (similar to what some games do through steam, I believe? please correct me if I'm wrong - it may be something they try and impliment) then I simply won't buy it.

That doesn't sound right. I have the steam ME1, and retail ME2 and the import features works fine.

Also, to be completely off-topic:

They mean with The Old Republic only being available digitally on Origin (EA's new Steam-like gane delivery system), unfortunately ME3 will most like be an Origin exclusive if you want the digital edition.  That's what they mean by "Steam users being screwed".

I would love to use steam on my ME3 especially to be able to use the ingame interface to be able to talk with my buddies while playing, but well, at least for Mass Effect series, I don't really care if it's on steam or origin. Dunno, I just don't see the problem, I'll have to download another client (that I already have), big deal.

Face it, people, if this game won't be available via Steam, you will get it on Origin. And EA knows that.
Though, there is another way of obtaining the game - free of charge. But that is not an option for me, since we're talking about Mass Effect. And I am anyway too used to play the DLC's in time. I guess it sucks waiting until somebody makes a crack and uploads it somewhere. No way am I gonna wait for that.

Agreed. I have ALL of my games on steam and simply do not want other clients/programs on my system.

Imagine if every publisher made it mandatory to use their clients to play games. We would have to install countless clients just to enjoy games... EA don't use steamworks so regardless of where people buy their games they're making money. Sure steam takes a percentage but like I said, many users have a lot of games on steam and simply do not want to buy games elsewhere. Giving them the shaft by not offering Limited Editions or Digital Deluxe Editions or by releasing the game on steam after it's officially been released will NOT make many want to buy on Origin.

Hardly... If it doesn't show up on steam I won't be buying it. It's not fair, in my mind, to offer the game practically everywhere (other DD sites too) but not on steam.

really?  Maybe it was just for DAA then the warning for awakenings said you can only import characters from the steam version of origin into the steam version of awakenings and not the retail version which was the reason I bought the physical disc copy version of awakenings.  I assumed it applied to all games purchased through steam.  If I can import my steam characters into ME3 than I will just get the retail version of it.  good to know  thank you.

It is certainly true that the DDE version of Mass Effect 3 will not be on Steam, it is an Origin exclusive.  However there is every reason to believe that the standard version of Mass Effect 3 will be on Steam.

The only question at the moment is whether you will need to have Origin installed to run Mass Effect 3.  I don't agree with what EA are doing but in reality they are only doing the same thing Valve does.

It was obvious from the E3 presentation that EA were pushing Origin.com heavily. And it all comes down to greed.

They see Steam doing well with their game distribution business model and sitting on a large market share and now EA wants a piece of that. It's very likely that as competition between Steam and Origin.com grows, EA will only release digital download versions of the games they publish to their game distribution company only. Unfortunately, we as gamers will see these games held for ransom by EA. Personally, I am not a fan of EA's business practises in the last several years.

I have had Steam since it was first released. I don't play many games, but all the games I have are on Steam and I don't want another system.

That's why I'm just going to take some vacation time from work during the week of March 6th and get a physical copy.

I agree. That's why I don't think a dev will comment. But the devs at least do talk to us; EA doesn't.

Just FYI, it has been confirmed that Origin will be the only place to get the Digital Deluxe (aka Collector's) edition by Bioware's head of marketing, on his twitter account:

#Origin is the exclusive retailer for the digital CE of #ME3

The fact that he specifically says the CE will be exclusive suggest that the normal version of Mass Effect 3 will be sold at other digital retailers and Steam would certainly have to be one of them.

So at least we have that, but I want the DDE on Steam - or at least I did, until I learned it was $80 - the same price as the physical Collector's edition that comes with a real art book, comic, and lithograph, whereas you get PDFs with the digital version.  While I don't mind non-CE versions being the same price digitally as physically (because I don't have any affinity for boxes or CDs), I do mind paying the same for some PDFs of things that are real books in the physical CE.

So it looks like I'll be getting the physical CE and then I'll probably rebuy the game on Steam a year later when it goes on sale for $10, just because I'm type-A about having games on Steam.

Meh. I don't particularly love Steam, despite indeed having Digital Deluxe ME2 on there. So if someone can give them serious competition - great.

If Origin is awful, I'll find another (legal) solution. Doesn't have to be Steam though.

(apologies for the double post, but I wanted to separate these two thoughs)

Well we all know why the DDE will be exclusive to Origin.  Because EA is too shortsighted and reactionary to make a service that could legitimately compete with Steam - a service that people will actually want to use - the only way they can "compete" is by essentially holding game content hostage and forcing people to use the service if they want the most content complete versions of games.

Honestly, even if they undercut Steam in price by $5, I bet most people would still by the game on Steam if they could get the same version there.

So there's not much for them to comment on without insulting the company they work for - which generally isn't a good career move.  There's simply no argument they can make for how the DDE being tied to Origin is beneficial for consumers.  It's beneficial for EA, period.
