I'm at the end of act 2, with all quests done (besides to Catch a Thief). Isabela doesn't have enough friendship points to trigger questioning beliefs, and I want her to stay for act 3. Is there any extra dialog or something that I can do to get Isabela up a few points? I think that a good 10 or so points is enough.

Did you give her gifts?

If I remember correctly, she doesn't have any gifts available yet.

Isabela is tricky. You have to work with her for a bit. Try to avoid getting too much rivalry while you're aiming for friendship. Some good ones for her is like taking her into the fade. Then talking to her after. That is a bit of extra. Gifts help as well. The Ship in a Bottle. Generally she also loves sarcastic responses just like Flemeth & Varric. While she tends to lean to being a good person. She will give rivalry a bit of the time if you help people without getting a reward at the same time.
There is a FAQ by Hoorayforicecream for her here

Ugh. I missed the gift. Well, if that list is complete, I guess there isn't anything I can do now. Guess I'll have to restart act 2. Thanks for the link, though.

Isabella tricky? she was my easiest one. Fenris tricky because of his hate for mages.

Izzy is only tricky in that she's gone if you don't have a specific amount of rep before to catch a thief. So if someone doesn't use her much at all. Don't ever take her on quests and so on. She will leave forever. Which has people confused at first. The thing with Fenris for me was just I didn't even take him out to the coast to proc his act 2 quest until my 2nd or 3rd play through. I had to redo act 1 in my first play through when I realized I was missing Isabela & Fenris. Since the game doesn't force those on you like Anders & Merrill.

I had to redo the Deep Roads because I didn't realise that the dwarf selling lyrium to templars was actually a cover for Fenris' recruitment.

Poor Carver, he died when I did the Deep Roads the second time because I didn't realise Anders needed to be there and there was no way I was doing the DR a thrid time.

Isabela's easy it's Fenris I found hard work with his ping pong mage slavery good other slavery bad approval giving.

If you take the first flirt option with Isabela 'I'll do it for a kiss' and use the sarcasm responses I think you get +25 approval.

Alright. I flirted with her, got in bed with her, gave her the gift, and I got her questioning beliefs quest. Now to crush her heart and follow the actual romance with Merrill I intended to do.

there is a ship in a bottle for her in the second act. But yeah, isabella was very difficult for me to get to go either way.

...by which I mean friendship and rivalry

It's really not that hard to get to the 50% mark with Isabela before To Catch a Thief. There are folks who've asked me about doing so without taking her on any combat quests at all in order to do a Nightmare playthrough, and that's entirely doable. I wrote the approval section of the Isabela FAQ (linked to in my sig) just for this purpose. There's a total of about 135% approval you can get in Acts 1 and 2 for her without sleeping with her.
