Will the saves of a Steam-bought ME1+2 be compatible with an Origins-bought ME3?

I wouldn't imagine there to be a problem, but just in case, does anyone have any information about the save-file-transfer between Steam and Origins?

oh god, is ME3 not going to be on steam? ill nerd rage like CRAZY if it isnt.

but yeah, it'll transfer over fine.
ive had friends send me their boxed retail version saves and used them for importing purposes from ME1 to ME2 . i doubt it'd be any different.

I won't be testing this since I will buy the game once it's on Steam. I do NOT trust EA. Can't help but think the Origin version will have new levels of drm stupidity.

Well, since you can easily transfer ME1 saves (not from Steam) to ME2 (on Steam), or vice versa, I can't imagine why ME3 would be any different.

The save games create their own folder during an install. I would imagine they're not distribution method specific.

Great, thanks. I don't trust EA either, but Origins is new, and they've probably learned their lesson from DA2.
But still. Despite being a hardcore Steamer, that DDE is TOO awesome to pass up. Maybe if it does come out on Steam, I'll cancel the Origins one, and get the Steam version.

I wish they did.

I truly wish they did.

But they will never learn.

The situation at the moment looks like the standard edition will be available on Steam but the Digital Deluxe Edition will not be available on Steam it is a Origin "exclusive".

At the moment the speculation is that NO MATTER where you buy the game it will still require Origin.  So even if you buy the game off Steam you will still have to install Origin.

To answer the ops question there will be no problems with using save files from a game purchased on steam.  There is very little difference between the steam version and the retail version.

ugh, dont force origin on me. i'd absolutely hate that.

i prefer steam because its easy to use, organized in a well done manner and isnt a hassle in any way what soever.

like i wont mind if the deluxe version is origin exclusive, i can understand that, the silly extras dont really concern me, but requiring origin would down right almost be a deal breaker for me.

i have a couple steam games that in game require me to log into games for windows live and my god is it painful. i doubt origin would be any different.

I'll go back to getting a retail copy before I throw money at Origin.

I would not buy the game then.  I might get it for the PS3/360 and hope the interactive comic or whatever covers enough.  But I wont put a EA DRM engine on my computer.  Fool me once and all that.

Regardless of where you buy the game, it will still have the same mechanics of recognizing your saves in the proper Documents>Bioware>... path.

I'll downgrade to the xbox version before I put origins on my pc. If I can't run it on steam and only steam then I'll go join the console peasants for this.

Depends on where you buy it.

I'd rather give EA a chance to prove they have learned what the customer likes and dislikes then give another dollar to gamestop.

it will be forced linked to origin like bf3 is weather its a digital or box copy and save games are saved in your documents folder so they will have no problem transfering over to origin from steam

Goodness, I haven't seen this old thing for almost a year!
I don't think necroing this old thread of mine was necessary, as there's the main Origin Thread now. Still, good times.
