So that was a reaper? Why was it so small?
Bioware's really hit it home with the Uncharted-level cinematic feel/setpieces

They were cool backdrops, but you were still in a corridor. A couple of the recent shots from the live streaming thing today though kind of look like it might have a bit more of a open level design here and there, maybe vehicle missions only.
Not to be excessively negative, but Ahglock is right. Think of how dazzling the derrick ride in Gears of War 2 was the first time. And then you realize there is only a tiny amount of this vast battlefield that you can actually influence. The rest is a massive cutscene that you cannot affect in any way.
I'm all for beautiful environments and sweeping scenes of epic destruction, just give players some agency. ME3 seems to be going in the right direction with optional points of interest that Shepard can examine (by pressing Y on the xbox).

Irrelevant. Death laser beams look awesome. Argument invalid.marshalleck wrote...

But here, there's actually a shockwave from the explosion that takes a second or so to reach Shepard and slam him around. Physics FTW!! Great job, Bioware.

What kind of agency do you expect to have as a human soldier on foot against a 2km long sentient warship? Just curious.
More agency to act against there minions and plans I guess. Hell given how innefecitve ship guns were I am not sure what I'd expect to do against a reaper in the normandy. Your capacity to act is given some serious restraints, you almost litterally have tunnel vision on how to accomlish specifc goals.
Eh its been 15+ years since I took philosphy so i may be misusing the term.

We're complimenting a game for what it's accomplished. Don't start turning this into a hate thread. Can't people on these forums go past the first page before insulting someone or something?<_<TexasToast712 wrote...
Uncharted sucks. ME3 looks 10x better and funner.
Anyways, it looks like the Reapers might just win the war. Chances are that Shepard would be too awe-struck watching them raze destruction on that city to give a damn about the war.

A fair point. There are certainly reasons to limit player agency. But I just hope there is always something to do besides ogle at the scenery.
I think what I fear is unskippable cutscenes that bleed into actual gameplay.

Nobody brought the PS3 into this and nobody said you should start commenting on your dislike of a series. Remember that these games are rated "M-Mature" so start acting like it and praise Mass Effect for its accomplishments in a mature manner without bringing others down. I'm gonna leave before more fanboys come here.TexasToast712 wrote...

Well I think you're using the term appropriately, I just think this is one of those situations where Shepard has to focus primarily on not dying horribly so (s)he can then begin to concern him or herself with devising a plan to stop the Reapers. It seems like the Reaper attack sequence on Earth is all about making Shepard and the player feel powerless, bordering on hopeless in the face of unbelievable devastation. Anderson voices this exactly when he asks "how do you fight something so powerful?" to which Shepard responds "I don't know"...just before an Alliance cruiser is decimated in two shots, unleashing a shockwave that sends Shepard careening. It's all set up very specifically to drive the point home that these events are--for the moment--beyond Shepard's control. Pretty much all he can hope to do is survive.Ahglock wrote...

I dont like it when people compare a great game like Mass Effect to garbage.
Done with the thread.
