Hi, im new do DA:O and have afew noob questions mainly regarding my party makeup.
1. Is there a limit to the number of followers you have (in total)?
2. How necassary is a rogue for lockpick? Is it essential or just a big bonus?

You can have a party of 4 members total, including the player character. (some of them can have pets in addition, though). Sometimes you will fight along side blue circle allies that you dont have direct control over, in addition to your party.
Lockpicking is not essential. The chests, by and large, dont contain crucial or highly valuable items. Think of it more as a steady trickle of extra income.
Of course, with a steady trickle of extra income, you'll be able to afford those really nice uber items and talent books more quickly.

You don't need to invest talent points into all of the deft hands talents to be efficient since rogues can get their damage from Cunning, and deft hands basically only gives bonuses to Cunning for the purpose of picking locks and disarming traps. Just pump Cunning, get the Lethality talent, and they're still no worse for DPS. Stealing and lockpicking do provide a good amount of extra income, even if you only find pieces of unremarkable armour in a locked chest remember that later in the game that can still account for one or two sovereigns for one chest. And the experience is good as well, it's like extra enemies you only have to click once to get the exp...
