I've installed DA II from disk, activating it with the given code. So all OK there........ Start the routine

Dragon age II configuration utility opens....great all settings fine the product key appears as typed...cool

Close utility window and the start menu appears (configure/documentation/suport......PLAY

So I hit play......... up pops ACTIVATE YOUR GAME "sign in with your EA account to activate the DA II on this computer"

I sign in and..........................X We could not activate DA II on the computer using EA account provided. Please locate your product key to activate the game using your EA account

ENTER PRODUCT KEY........ this is a button so I hit this

Enter Product Key: If you purchased a disc-based version, the product key is on....blah blah blah

In the box appears my product key (I say my as I purchased the game on a disc and feel I own this)

SUBMIT.... This is a buttonand I hit it.....

PRODUCT KEY ALREADY USED

The product key you provided ********** has already been used to activate DA II please enter an unregistered ...blah blah blah

OK, SO I've been going though the forums and have not seen anything that gets me out of this loop I've hit. Really there had to be something fundamentally wrong with me or this activation system. I know I'm not the brightest candle in the house so will not be disapointed to learn that the wrongness is with me.

Help appreciated.

Hey. I just dropped a new mobo in my comp, with a new graphics card. I hit the same problem and also haven't found anything to help fix it. Exactly as you described...

Make sure you are using the same email and password for both your EA account and the Bioware social site (which is also an EA account). Since you have have both registered your game here, use the email and password you use here.

Thanks for the response sami jo.

I registered the DA II game on my EA account which uses the same e-mail and password. I can see it as registered alongside the original DA game when I'm online here. There is a button to activate the online profiles but this appears to do nothing.

As millions (one assumes) of other players are playing the game this has got to be one of those truly trivial details that I've missed so any other suggestions will be gratefully received. One that gets the game started would be even more gratefully welcomed

Ta again.

Same thing happened to me. I contacted EA support, they said it was being behind a proxy that did it (never mind that the problem started before I used the proxy). For me, the issue started after I installed the UE of DAO on my computer. Prior to that, everything was running smoothly and I'd only been prompted to activate once.

Hi Highcastle,

Question to you....
Did you/EA resolve your/EA's problem?

Question in general
Am I being unreasonable to believe that issues like this should just not happen?
Answer to myself
No just naive

Question's to EA support
Do you follow these posts? and if so would you mind responding please?

Cheers :-)

Can't answer the other two, (only Highcastle can answer the first, and the second needs a lot more info to understand exactly what's going on.)

But as to your third question...

"No.  Neither EA nor BioWare Customer Support actively monitor these forums."

These sites are Community-driven, meaning fellow players, for the most part.  And while many BioWare staff contribute, they do so pretty much voluntarily.  (There are a few dedicated Forum and website personal, but they aren't problem-solvers for game issues, just the site.)

So posting an issue, complaint, or a rant here is fine, (if you keep things civil) and it may even result in a "I had that problem, and here's how I resolved it..." response.  But if you're expecting a specific, "official", reply to your post, it just ain't gonna' happen.

For that, use "support.ea.com", and play around with things there until you manange to generate the "Live Chat" option.  (Takes a bit, isn't obvious or automatic.  Image IPB )

I've had 100% success in resolving issues once I've been in direct contact with an EA Customer Service rep.
In some cases it took a few days from when they got involved, but always successful in the end. Image IPB

Hello Thandal,

Strangely enough I've just come back from the chat line with EA.

The issue is now with teir level 3 and I should hear back in a few days, just like you said. Oh and I would never rant, I just posed a few civil questions ;-)

Will come back with the solution once support has resolved the problem, for all to see.

tyvm jonemurray. I too have been playing since release. it's only been since about a week ago that it won't let me log on with the SAME info i've been using since i bought it. I can clearly see my registered games on this site (DA2 and ME2). It is strange that the game suddenly stopped acknowledgment but this website and facebook (all linked) has not. BTAIM, i have other games to fiddle around with until this is resolved. Just wish SW:TOR was one of them... :)

EA just told me that the error message I recieved when trying to re-activate was the result of being behind a proxy (which I already figured out). When I pointed out that my real concern was being prompted to activate again in the first place--after three solid months of the game working smoothly--they said this was also the result of the proxy. Despite it having started before the proxy was in place. So...no, the problem wasn't resolved.

The game *phones home* regardless if the DvD is in drive or not even if it's activated. I'm guessing on digital versions too? Who knows what info it has to send. We were told otherwise before game launch. I am not pleased. Image IPB

The game tries to "phone home" immediately upon launch for a variety of reasons, not all of which have anything to do with "authorization".

Once you've activated/enabled your game/DLC, you never have to be connected again. And you can always un-tick the "Keep me logged-on" box, then click "Cancel" at game start-up when it asks to connect.

I have unchecked it. If The DA servers are down and I try to start a new game or load a save game, I have to wait...wait...wait...then get a message that tells me unable to connect to the da servers.

If I've already been playing and go to switch characters and the servers/net goes out I have to wait...wait and get a message saying since I can't connect to the da servers the online features will not work. (Of coarse they won't work but whatever).

I authorized ages ago, it was a sig edition pre-order so it can't be any of that. At least I can play and with all DLC, its just a bit annoying since the check in was supposed to be a one time thing. (Unless you have checked log in each time of course)

Just to keep interested people updated.

Problem still not resolved. I have just got a mail with a code, issued by the tier 3 support which I am to use to create another account, not sure yet how to use this code. Have also been asked to upload a picture of the code with todays date. No info on why but I assume it is some strange sercurity check.

OK that's it. Hope I get as much play time out of the game as I'm getting trying to start it :-)

OK,

The problem was solved when EA issued me with another code to register the game on first launch (took a few exchanges of evidence to show that I had a genuine copy). I asked what the initial problem had been, the response is below. I can't say that I understand it but DA II is now running.

EA support: "What happened was the code was registered to your account so when you went to install it the code was saying it was in use because the system was reading the registration as the game being uinstalled somewhere else."
