I wanted to know becaused it didn't get destroyed in one hit like the ships that were attacking soverign at the end of ME.

weaker reaper maybe, different weapons, the alliance could have developed better shields.legion999 wrote...
The one that the reaper fired on and when it was destroyed the shockwave sent Shep and Anderson down to a swarm of Cannbals.

reaper laser cannon things might be less powerful in atmosphere ect.
tons of reasons why it could take more punishment.

IIRC it didn't look like a military vessel, could be a commercial ship trying to evacuate people.

True. Although I hope it survived because the Alliance has better sheilds now and gives them a better chance.

Erm, did you see that blindingly bright explosion, and that shockwave? That Alliance ship was in the middle of that. Somehow, I don't think it survived
Honestly, I'm no fan of the Alliance, but it would hurt if we had to watch that happen to the Everest (though, it would last a little longer...)

I figured it was a heavy transport ship. Cruisers and Dreadnoughts supposedly can't even survive atmospheric entry, as their mass effect cores aren't strong enough.
My money is on it being an evacuation transport that didn't make it.
Edit:
From the Codex:
Cruisers are middle-weight combatants, faster than dreadnoughts, and more heavily-armed than frigates. Cruisers are the standard patrol unit, and often lead frigate flotillas. In the Alliance Navy, cruisers are named after Earth cities (New Delhi, Tokyo). Cruisers cannot land on medium or high-gravity worlds, but do possess the ability to land on low-gravity planets.
Kind of inconclusive. It says that cruisers can't land, but of course, the ship in the gameplay trailer wasn't landed either. I was always under the impression that once a ship entered atmosphere, if it's ME core wasn't strong enough, it crashed, and if it's ME core is strong enough to stay in the air, it's strong enough to land and then lift off again.
Still......it was ****ing awesome as mentioned above. It seemed very realistic. Well, realistic as a spaceship explosion can be. Reminded me what I imagine a nuclear blast from a distance would look like.

I think he meant he hoped it survived more than one shot from the Reaper because of improved defenses. Remember in ME1 everyone's cruisers were one shot one kill for Sovereign.

Edit: Was it just me, or did anyone else want to see the Dreadnought named after the tallest, most intimidating mountain on Earth in action? Not that there's any indication we won't, just sounds like all the Dreadnoughts have been LAZER'D...

it would depend on what they are classing as low-gravity planets, maybe Earth is considered low-gravity?jamesp81 wrote...

Maybe. I figured Earth for medium gravity, though. Low gravity would be like Mercury or the moon, maybe Mars.
Edit:
Or it could just be a better cruiser than can land places that others can't.

I thought it was a Systems Alliance cruiser like the ones seen at the battle of the Citadel at the end of Mass Effect 1
Yes it was an Alliance cruiser as seen in the pic above. Its hard to tell but after it gets destroyed you can see the 2 front cannons before it goes into the water.
On another note, in the same demo vid, it has been confirmed that the debree raining down from the sky are Alliance ships

From the live Q&A section, someone asks if those were flaming Alliance vessels raining down, and the Answers guy says that the entire Alliance Navy has been pretty much destroyed. Well, I guess there goes the Everest...
I'd be curious to know if that includes the Orizaba, the ship Spacer Shepard's mother serves on, and whether that'll be brought up in the event that it is.
