I think he meant he hoped it survived more than one shot from the Reaper because of improved defenses.  Remember in ME1 everyone's cruisers were one shot one kill for Sovereign.

From what I understand the first attack completely destroyed the shields, but it didn't hit any crucial part of the ship. It's the second attack that hit the core or another important part.

Hmm. I don't know whether to think that the Everest would have been the one to stand and fight, or whether they would have taken heavy shields & haul damage and been forced to retreat (Obviously, this is the best heavyweight the Alliance can pump out, if it's named Everest). I'm tempted to believe the second option, and it doesn't even feel biased by hopefullness Image IPB

From the live Q&A section, someone asks if those were flaming Alliance vessels raining down, and the Answers guy says that the entire Alliance Navy has been pretty much destroyed. Well, I guess there goes the Everest...

I'd be curious to know if that includes the Orizaba, the ship Spacer Shepard's mother serves on, and whether that'll be brought up in the event that it is.

Oooh, never played Spacer, that would be very interesting, though.

Edit: Was it just me, or did anyone else want to see the Dreadnought named after the tallest, most intimidating mountain on Earth in action? Not that there's any indication we won't, just sounds like all the Dreadnoughts have been LAZER'D...

Well, I, for one, certainly hope not.  I'd at least like for the Alliance fleet to do a little bit of damage before it gets lolstomped.

Of course, the Alliance Fleet is mostly destroyed and the Turian fleet as well, the writers will have to pull a real rabbit out of their asses to make a believable victory scenario.

in the invasion trailer it was mentioned on the newsflash text that the remains of the alliance fleet had retreated through the charon relay. So I guess the everest could still be kicking if it made the jump to ftl, although it wouldn't surprise me if the reapers had a counter for that as well. If so, I guess only frigates and maybe light cruisers got away.

For the sake of form and coolness, I still want a strong contingent of Alliance warships in the fleet I use to send Harbinger screaming to the other side of the spiritual divide, come the end game.  I hope Hackett can at least get his task group out.

Hackett's Fifth Fleet is based out of Arcturus Station so they might be alright. That is assuming that Arcturus station hasn't been hit yet.

my guess is that hacketts fleet was at earth, they knew that the reapers were coming, which means that everything gets sent to earth. I mean about 90% of our species still resides there. response fleet won't cut it then, you need to prioritize.

Arcturus station where Hackett's fleet is based at, is in the Arcturus system whose relay is the gateway to Earth so I would think they would be the first ones hit assuming the Reapers came in from the relay and didn't FTL into the Sol system.

I'm guessing they FTL'd into the Sol system.  The attack seems to occur without warning.  If they came barging in through Arcturus, there'd be a warning.

True. Although I hope it survived because the Alliance has better sheilds now and gives them a better chance.

Erm, did you see that blindingly bright explosion, and that shockwave? That Alliance ship was in the middle of that. Somehow, I don't think it survived Image IPB

Honestly, I'm no fan of the Alliance, but it would hurt if we had to watch that happen to the Everest (though, it would last a little longer...)

Sorry I meant I hope it survived for longer. Forgot to add that bit.

I believe it was an alliance dreadnought, not a cruiser.

From the admirals: "We've lost contact with everything beyond the Sol Relay."

Considering that the last thing we hear before that ship blows up is the Virmire survivor saying "look out, they're going to take out that dreadnaught"...

FTL Comm Buoys, Reapers destroy or jam them and earth goes dark, since I don't think the Alliance would invest in quantum entanglement comms.
