They were saying in the E3 interview that you quite literally pick up your squad mates while they're in the middle of their daily lives. I'm assuming Ashley was attending some sort of honorary / military / political gathering. Hopefully that explains why she is dressed the way she is.
You mean like Shepard's trial maybe... just a thought
Yes. Or when she was promoted to spectre status. But you're probably right.

She died a few years ago anyway.
But on topic; I don't mind the new hair, but I'd like to see her with a ponytail. At least see a comparison so it would be easier to make a desicion. Coming from a non-Ashley fan, I think they did an okay job with her, although more armor wouldn't hurt.

Ashley was the pretties female in ME1 ans ME2.
It's a shame she got Bioware'd.
Wasn't she BioWare'd to start? Since, you know, they made her?
I dislike her new look anyway.
For Bioware, feminity = big boobs, It's a shame.
In ME1 and ME2, they made her without any intention of her beeing hot. The result is a cute realistic character. Same thing goes with Tali.

Explain Jack. ;D
I'm joking. I see what you mean though. They took a very realistic and fleshed out character you could meet in your daily life and made her look like Jennifer Lopez. (This is also a joke - Don't shoot me)
Feminity doesn't = big boobs to Bioware. Morrigan from DA didn't have huge boobs, and neither did Jack. Its the exposure and extortion of the female body to gain more fans that's the kicker - boobs or not (even the asari strippers have normal sized boobs). tbh, I really don't think Ashley's new outfit is hypersexualized compared to a lot of the ladies in the Mass Effect world. It just came out of no where and I hope they explain it.

That's why I dont care about her hairstyle.
But a non-coherent barby suit AGAIN ? and on ASH ? C'mon Bioware...

So it seems there's quite a rift in the opinions on Ashley's new looks. While it appears opinions are pretty much split on her new outfit, the general consensus on her hair seems to be overall rather negative. I've seen a few people who seem OK with it, but I think everyone can agree that it could be better.
Are you kidding? I thought most people loved her new hair! I know I do.

In ME2, she was still an Alliance girl, but after seeing that Shepard was right all along--about everything, I can see her softening up and letting go of her military stringent and began to see that things weren’t always black and white.
Also, to say she is hyper-sexualized is ridiculous. Tali’s outfit is much tighter and Ashley’s new outfit is no more formfitting than the light armor in ME1, and considering she is now a Spectre, she isn’t bound by any formal protocol and can dress how she prefers.

I see no reason why Ashley wouldn’t want a softer look. When you first meet her she is militaristic, all about the Alliance. She wasn’t suppose to sleep with her Commander, but she did. She wasn’t suppose to be involved in mutiny, but she was.

I like this (about her getting softer) it just seems strange to me - being brought up in a military family - that you would desire to dress like that (since its very impractical. x___x ) I still think she was doing it for Shepard's trial though.
And I'ma femshep, so she didn't sleep with me, but you also figure she worked closely with Aliens, and while she is a bit standoffish because of her family's history, she worked closely with them.

I say she deff looks better with long hair.
Wow does a feminine outfit mean she can no longer be a Bada**? Improper by your standards, but this is the future and it is strongly recommended on my ship.

Um, since when are "women brought up in military families" not interested in impractical or softer styles of dress? Do you know any?GunMoth wrote...

She was raised in a military family, yes. That doesn’t mean she can’t experience personal growth and change her views. She’s been through a lot. I like to think that while she is still a strong woman, she decided to embrace the softer side of life. She wears her hair down. I cannot see why this is such a huge deal. Female Shepard has a hairstyle you can choose where is her hair is shoulder length and her bangs were pushed behind her ear. Didn’t see any complaints. And most female Shepards that I have seen modded, have loose hair with those strings of bangs hanging in her face. How is that so different of Ashley’s hair? Because there is some in her face? Those two inches of hair makes that much difference? Much ado about nothing.

Agreed. Makes sense to me.
I like Ashley's new look. I prefer a fine strong woman, compared to the Tomboy she use to be.!.

Maybe because it poses a serious danger to her health in combat? Haircuts for armed personal are short for a reason.

Thats fine, since Shepard is YOUR character; Ashley is not. Most of us are upset that this "new" Ashley appears to be contradicting previous traits and examples of her ME personality.

Listen to what you are saying. "Ashley appears to be contradicting previous traits and examples of her ME personality." Appears? So you have no proof, you are basing your theory off of her new look?
So what if this crazy idea happens. What if her looks have no effect on her personality? Do you still have a problem? And Why?
You are correct Ashley is not OUR character, she is Bioware's character and I believe they will do what is right for their character. I have enjoyed them so far and do not see that changing.(Bioware's Characters.)

Personally I'm extremely impressed with how polished the game looks now, let alone in another 9 months..
I have no problems with it at this stage, but if that is indeed her hair for the whole game.. well, then I'll have an issue.

Yes, I do. Although her family wasn't nessicarily military - she still joined on her own accord - and she would never be caught wearing a dress. Not saying everyone woman who joins the military doesn't enjoy being feminine. There is a large variety of people who all enjoy different types of things. However, like I keep saying, it all seems very out of the blue to me. Ashley seemed very practical to me.
What hints did you pick up that made you think she would enjoy dressing like that / wearing her hair that way? I didn't see any. :C

Her new look, while maybe not a complete indicator of a new personality (which will probably remain the same), does still go against her ME self -
"I don't like to play dress up sir, I am an Alliance soldier first and foremost". (paraphrased)
Ashley DOES state that she prefers practicality over style in ME, I forget when she says it, but she does.
