I think that was only for the demo :)

Most likely done that way to aid the demo as they were showing the new way to control conversations and only having 2 options makes it easier for people to see what is going on

They either 1) WANT to minimize conversations (a core aspect of ME) or 2) with a limited time in E3, implementing the "Investigate" or more options is not necessary.

#2 of course.

I hope #2 is the answer, b/c the e3 demo for ME2 didn't cut down on dialogue

There were points in ME2 where there were only 2 options. My bet is that this was one of the points in ME3.

I think the whole thing was just for the E3 demo, (as in, they don't want to spoil anything major) so the final game should have more options than that.

It seemed like a pretty bad time for a conversation; Shepard even looks outside and sees a Reaper strolling by. I didn't think any more options were necessary, for that conversation (More the merrier, though, just saying...)

This was only done in ME2 for major decisions (that would have a later impact), not common dialogues (aside from "continue conversation" vs "investigate"). It would be too convenient for the only dialogues shown at E3 to all be major decisions when they were trying to avoid spoilers in the first place.

Most likely for demo purposes, but I would expect ME3 to grant players less control over conversations than, say, ME1 or ME2 did.

I think they're going to trade it in for bigger differences in the story (ie. choices from the first two games possibly doubling the amount of dialogue they'd have to do), and better cinematic quality overall.

TBH, I'm totally understanding of the amount of work that it would require to tie all of the variables together. Quality is more vital than quantity in ME3's case. It's a curse and a blessing; to have all of these different outcomes over three games, you need to accept that there has to be sufficient dialogue for each, so minute differences in the dialogue won't be as minute as we've seen before.

On the other hand, I'm really liking the cinematic direction so far. Just as long as we still have the occasional scene where the roleplaying is in-depth and as detailed as LotSB or Ashley's Normandy convos in ME1, I'll be fine with less control.

They want people to not buy their game.

It was a demo for E3...they can't put the whole wheel of conversation because the attendance in the E3 don't have the time to read it all.

For me it's a non-issue.

Casey said that ME3 would have new dialog features, so you can stop worrying.

I would say they needed to show to newcomers that the game HAS choices, but why waste resources in filling the dialog wheel with many options if you aren't going to use them?

There had to be a balance, and only 2 options was that balance.

This was only for demo. Bioware isn't going to cut dialog down now in the final epic installment.ME3 should have at least the same amount of choices as ME1&2.

Too much dialogue confuses CoD players.

There are/were times in ME & ME2 that no matter what you picked (single on right & left) or sometimes ALL 3 on the right Shepard's dialogue was the same; ie, one VA voice line.

"Why are there only two conversation options?"

Because the game isn't done yet =)

Oh no! I can't investigate why a child was hiding in a vent while his home is being destroyed by reapers!

I'd still like to have the default "Hurr derp." Neutral response, if only to give the illusion that there's more choices (let's be honest, no one uses those). I like choices.

Between the RL matter of this being a demo more for the combat gameplay than the conversations and the in-game matter of there being A FRICKIN REAPER RIGHT OUTSIDE, I can understand there only being the two options. Wait until some footage from a conversation in a calmer point in the game before panicking (he said as if anyone would listen...).

Because we are being given less freedom with Shepard than in the previous two games. Look at mass effect 2 and take note at how many times the game takes control of Shepard dialogue/decision wise. It will only get worse in mass effect 3. Shepards becoming "default" so to speak. this is typical of any shooter.

Is that any different than in ME1 wher we get given 3 different option on how to respond, only for Shep to say the exact same thing, in the same tone of voice, for all 3 options?
