My E3 Demo Feedback

I've seen pretty much all four demos that Bioware has prepared for E3.
-Kinect Demo
-Anderson Demo
-Turret Demo
-VIP Krogan Princess Demo

I have a few pieces of feedback, I know the game isn't done, but it's looking great so far.

-Shepard's mouth animations don't seem very sophisticated, especially when he's telling his team to get a move on.

-His face looks too static, eyes especially looked almost dead.  I know that there weren't really any conversations to get the best look at this, but from what we saw it looks like it needed some work.

-The turret sequence against the reaper is very cool, very cinematic, but it didn't look like the gun was having any sort of effect on the Reaper.  Maybe it was the small fed I saw, but it looked like absolutely nothing would have changed even if you didn't fire a shot.  And the reaper itself didn't seem to be doing anything but walking, which seemed to make the scene less intense.  The standard weapons look to pack a punch, the turret...not at all.

-The airstrike against the underground Reaper.  It was cool to see the normandy swoop in, but watching Shepard just stand there and fall on his ass, especially after being warned to get back, seemed almost slapstick.  Didn't really give me a badass action hero vibe.  Or a desperation vibe.  More of: "Come on man, they told you to get back."

-Not enough dialogue/conversations, but I understand this doesn't show well in brief demos.

-And lastly and obviously, the Kinect stuff seems like the best stuff Microsoft showed at their press conference, but it seems like it could have just as easily been done on a mic.

The reaper scene with the turret was just bad, the less we say about it the better.

Also anyone else reminded of the scarabs in halo?

Scarabs, at least, you could damage. There were enemies on them that you could kill, you felt like you were making progress. And sometimes, their huge lasers actually blew **** up.

The reaper looked and sounded cool, but wasn't doing anything, and the peashooter we were firing at it seemed pointless.

Kinect has built in support for voice recognition, for "just using a mic" would require some sort of voice learning to be built into the game, which as many has said would take away from the game itself.

But the moment with the ground reaper was cutted after the second airstrike right? Maybe in the full gameplay it drops those Oculus we've seen before on Earth and the Collector's base, and we can shoot them. Besides in one of the trailers we can see Shepard climbing one of its legs, so I expect some kind of Shadow of the Colossus fight with it. Yes, it sounds really strange.

Yeah. I just think that they talk about the guns having more impact and feeling stronger, but the biggest gun of them all (the turret) is pointless. Make it have a visual effect.

Exactly, there was no tension, it just walked, and not only that but shooting it is pointless. It would be much better if we were avoiding it in the hammerhead.

IF I get this game, I may aswell just sit there and watch, its an interactive cutscene nothing more.

1. Reloading is way to fast.

I thought the reloading was pretty quick, but didn't seem TOO quick. Timing wise though, I saw a few instances during demos across multiple sites where the omni-blade kill was going but the enemy died before the animation finished. If there's a way to speed that up or make enemies stuck in the animation, that would be cool.

Another bit of feedback is that there seemed to be too much exposition. "Maybe I should flank these guys!" was a little on the nose.

I felt the turret scene should have just been a cutscene without any player involvement in the first place... it's quite evident the turret gun is incapable of harming the Reaper, so what's the point of it? We just sit on a rail and there's no point in even firing... We clearly can't control the vehicle.. there's nothing the player can do that has any impact or meaning...  just be done with it and make it a cutscene, that would be more interesting to me.

I think that they can make it more interesting/impactful, they just need to make it stumble or pause if shot in the joints or something.

I really hope something like that is included in the final release... as it stands in its current form from what we saw, you can just put the controls down and wait for the scene to unfold... it's a cutscene but isn't... either make it a full cutscene or let the player actually do something while on rails that has some influence on the gameplay.

I'm disappointed with the Kinect features showcased so far. I thought I was going to see some piloting or biotic stuff.

Heres a funny thought: The game has 9 months till it comes out. I;m confident the on rials part was Bioware's way of seeing how well it will be received and they might scrap it if no one likes it.

I think this game is quite a ways away from release yet. Why do you think they gave themselves an extra nine months?

Don't worry

Considering how Sovereign was able to fend off the Citadel fleet, I'm not surprised that a turret didn't destroy a Reaper.  Come on, now. :P

It's obvious a turret wouldn't hurt it. So why have that scene in there at all?

And yeah, they have plenty of time, but on the off chance that they don't know these things then at least there's a prayer that they'll read them and think about them.
