Do you only take the female romance path? Or do you "dare" going the "straight" way for your character and go with Alistair or Zevran for instance?

Just curious, I for one still haven't even thought about it (until now, hence why I made this thread), my female characters all went with Leliana... because, well, not that I love lesbians in real life (yes it can be cute to watch, I concur) but I'm straight, I like women and... so yeah, it ended up the same way in Mass Effect. As for my male characters they of course still go with a woman for romance, with some exceptions however, for instance my next Origin will be a male Dwarf, and I just can't imagine a male Dwarf going with either Morrigan or Leliana for many reasons mostly attributed to my own views on the Dragon Age lore and the way I perceive the races of the game and the back-story of specific characters, and so on.

What about you? How "far" are you role-playing it? Are you "becoming" the character and think «alright, this female character is straight, so the hell with me being male and straight, I'll go with Alistair»?

Well I'll give an opinion from the other side of the fence I suppose. All the characters I make in a game have a pre-defined personallity based on the name I use for them. I just adapt it what game I play. I do infact 'roleplay' them to the best of my ability in that game, though some things are adjusted. My female characters go for men unless they happen to be lesbians. My make characters go for woman unless they happen to be gay. It all depends on what character I decide to play before hand.

Besides, I think people are missing out on so many lines of dialogue and story if they never took a romance that was opposit their own likes and ignoring their character.

Well I can't comment on that. But being a female who usually plays a female in game and usually gets the hetero romance only, I suddenly find myself crazily intrigued by Morrigan perhaps enough to roll a male character and romance her.

Which is strange because that's NEVER occurred to me before, but I guess it's just that these companions are so intriguing and in depth it makes you want to know them from all perspectives.

What about women who play male characters? :P I go both routes. Whatever fits the character I'm playing. First I played a rogue who is most definitely a "man's man", and romancing Zevran was quite fun and comfortable, being a straight female in real life. Now I'm playing a straight male mage, and while romancing a woman (Morrigan) is a bit strange at first, it's just as fun. There have been a few times where I've found her honestly quite adorable, actually... it's her giggle. ._.

I know my boyfriend plays bisexual women, but he -always- ends up romancing Leliana even if he flirts with Zevran a bit. Comfort zones differ from person to person.

There's a stigma that female players will actually be more comfortable playing "alternate lifestyles," but I'm not sure how true it is. I'd like to see the opposite. Straight men that aren't afraid of a little manlove are awesome. :)

My character is an alpha female and got three out of four. A woman who beats the blight should get who she wants.

Meh i pay male and femae characters so I gt to see more ptions, so i think I qualify to answer this.

Personally i try to think of a 'character type' before i make my character, then react appropriately. he origin stories often cement or slightly alter my original idea and what emerges is a more fully realized personae. I then make romance (and al other) decisions based on what I believe the character would do.

For instance, the ugly cow depicted in my avatar is a cruel, power-hungry dwarf noble who constantly maneuvers for power with little regard for the niceties. She has slept with all three available romance options (not sure why the hell they would sleep with her but still) in order to cement their loyalties. A female ranger I have made, however, i picture as a 'traditional' Dalish girl and has had no romance at all, since she is straight and slightly racist against humans. And Zhv is just not th type of elf a nice Dalish girl brings home.

I am proud of my bisexuality actually. My first character was a female dwarf from the noble path. She was head over heels for a certain Origin dwarf, then went through Leliana to 'heal' after being betrayed by the opposite sex. Then she ended up with Alistair about halfway through the game and never left his side.

Second character is a female mage. Didn't get along with Leliana at all and her views and have been smooching Alistair snice the beginning.

I guess what I'm saying is that yes, I don't really beeline for the females. I've yet to get the Morrigan romance achievement personally, and also the Zevran one, but that is because he freaks me out. I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole, if that pole was attached to a remote controlled crane and I gave orders to the guy controlling it... Meh.

Oh so very much the same for me.

I'm usually incredibly uncomfortable playing male characters. I have a hard time distancing myself from my characters- they're extensions of me, and I'm not male, and I feel awkward playing males and I don't like that awkwardness.

But I really want to explore every facet of companion interaction I can, and I really liked Morrigan. The first time through when she opened up enough to claim me as a dear friend I got all choked up. I want to see her open her heart up more, and since I can't set her up with Alistair (oh wouldn't that be fireworks), and she's completely heterosexual, it'll have to be me as a male.

I think it says a lot about this game when people are stepping outside their comfort zones simply to experience other relationships with the companions, because they want to, because of how the companions affected them. It's wonderful.

I just started a playthrough with a City Elf. I had absolutely no idea what the origin story was going to be like, and all I can say here is by the time it was over the mantra KILL ALL HUMANS KILL ALL HUMANS was playing over and over again in my head. It will be interesting to see what will develop with the party as this character. I fell head over heels for Alistair my first time, will that affect this playthrough or will Alistair really have to work to even break through my City Elf's shell enough to get her as a friend? After this one, though, I should probably try a playthrough as a male. I just can't decide which origin would work best.

I'm like Sloth, in that I create a character with a set personality and act accordingly.

So, in answer to your question, I will have certain female PCs that will go the "straight" option and also the bi/lesbian route...I'm also secure enough in my sexuality (I'm straight) as to create a gay character just to see what the differences are and to experience all possibilities

I only recently started a female character, and I'll have no problem taking the romance paths with all available characters. It's really not a problem for me, since I play these games with a character concept in mind. My character isn't me. Sure, they may share aspects of my personality and some of my outlook, but I regard them as separate and distinct. I don't go through the game thinking "what would I do?" I make decisions based on what I think the character, with their own background, likes/dislikes etc. would do. So yeah. Playing a female character and exploring the romance options generally doesn't feel at all strange.

That said, the female -> male relationships do tend to be generally less interesting to me, I have to admit.

I'm male, and I have my female elf mage romance alistair, former templar.

I was first thinking male elf mage, but it didn't sound nearly as well as the above. I mean, if it weren't for the Grey Wardens, these two might have very well been enemies instead of lovers lol.

Don't find anything wrong with it. If anything, in the romance scenes, I feel more the role of Alistair, since I'm very much like him IRL, oddly enough.

I'm male, and I create a myriad of characters in every Bioware RPG just to experience the entire game. That being said, I agree with marshalleck on the whole female character thing. The only time I ever had a problem with any of the romances was with one of my male characters with Zevran, the whole scene was done awkward to say the least.

I'm a Male IRL, but my first char was a female commoner dwarf, and I romanced the hell out of Alistair. I went into it with a good idea of her personality, but I hadn't read ahead too much on the companions, so I was open to romance whoever her personality lead her too. I chose Alistair because he's just too awesomely silly and noble and funny and sweet and stuff.

I don't worry about the exact makeup of my romances, I just go with what makes sense for my character, and it usually works out. Tho my next playthrough, I will probably make a character specifically to romance Zevran, and I think it'll be a female city elf.

I'm planning to play the game at least four times and romance everyone one at a time. First time through is the lesbian love with Leliana as a Cunning/Dagger City Elf Rogue, and I'm greatly enjoying it because I <3 Leliana. Next up I'll be a mean old mage guy who knows how to push Morrigan's buttons. Third time through I'll be a female Human Noble 2-handed warrior and end up with Alistair. Last but hopefully not least will be the male Dalish Elf Archer Ranger who plays around with Zevran.

I'll be totally monogamous on the first three playthroughs, but I might check out the prostitutes the fourth time since Zevran does that stuff too. After that...hmm, maybe a fifth playthrough as a Dwarf Commoner who doesn't give a sh** about sex and doesn't romance anyone, and a sixth as a Dwarf Noble who humps anything that moves lol.

I'm kind of backwards with this. I'm a female, and I've played both male and female characters and have done all possible romances. Slash doesn't bother me, so I've even had a male char romance Zevran. My favorite romance is Alistair, but that's just because I adore his character.

i'm only doing it for the lesbian love session with leliana. :D plus it adds variety to the script, and some possible unexpected stuff. i hope there's a twist in the storyline along the way. i loved going full blown dark side in KOTOR 1, and then having carth try turning me back to his side, and then killing him. it both touched and made me laugh for some time after.

Is it possible to romance everyone on one character? I'm playing a female city elf rogue, but can I romance lelliana, alistair and zevran? I wanna go for the love 'em and leave 'em route.

I'm male, and have played female characters, but I find Zevran creepy as hell and Alistair pathetic, and never thought of romancing either of them. Then again, when I play a male character, I don't think of romancing Morrigan either... fact is, I don't care for most of the NPCs in the party.

My first play through was a female mage and she ended up being quite chaste by accident though I was trying to bed Leiliana with her.. I guess I am not a very good lesbian..

My second playthrough on my rogue, I managed to kiss/sleep with half the kingdom. And did manage Zevran, Leiliana and Morrigan ...at whatever point they all decided I needed to have a one and only it was VERY interesting because I had them ALL making demands of me one after the other in camp..

Next time through I am tempted to do a female mage again and romance allister to see what all the girls are so giddy over, though I fear that it will be somewhat depressing as I think he's a lot like me...:P
