I did straight and gay avenues with my male and female chaarcters. I wanted to see the plot lines/conversations/etc. I did feel weird and I did "rush" through all the male courtship. Thankfully, the male NPCs generally don't give a damn what you say to them during their dialogue to get into their pants. You have to actually pay attention with the women, well at least leilana.
So, do you male players playing as female characters...

I'm a guy, with a few female characters. I tend to do the straight route. Then again, I don't let my sexuality interfere with my play.
Not that its wrong to do so, we all haveo ur comfort limits. Though I will say certain MMO experiences on the RP side of thing have left me with an aversion to playing any kind of lesbian. I don't even think I have to name which MMO

I've played female chars eventhough im male rl and didnt have a problem romancing Zevran, even did so on a male char of mine because i find him quite funny.
The only one i just cant find myself romancing is Alistair and not because i dislike him, quite the opposite, i liked him from the start, it's just that he feels like a very good friend, so it kinda feels wrong to have a romance with him.

I'm male, but I decided quite a while ago to play female elf first time.
I decided to go with the Alistair romance, even though I was heavily considering Leliana, but in the end, I had to tell her to take a hike for me and mister "boo-hoo, I have no parents, boo!".

It's interesting to see what everyone else has to say here.
I'm a heterosexual male and very comfortable in my sexuality. I do find myself attracted to men, but never in a sexual way, and I have no problem in admitting that. I also tend to play mostly female characters and I'm not entirely sure why. Perhaps for the same reasons I wore dresses in my teens, itself probably a offshoot of my interest and involvement in the riot grrrl culture.
I posted in the "from a gay player" thread about my experiences with my first character who was female, fell for Alistair and then abandoned him for Leliana. I wasn't sure at the time to what extent my own involvement (over that of my character) played in these romances, but I've been reflecting on it in bed last night/this morning.
I think key for me is that while these ingame relationships are ultimately consumated sexually, I'm sufficiently detached from my own gender/sexuality to explore them without feeling disguist or awkwardness. I had considered why my character went with Leliana and whether it was to do with my own sexual preference over that of my character's, but I'm not sure this is the reason.
Last night I recalled a girl I met at a party who, for all intents and purposes, was Leliana. I was actually quite cruel to her and very testing of her faith, to the point where she obviously felt cornered and had tears in her eyes. To this end, I don't think I was projecting my own personality onto the ingame relationship because Leliana is someone who I wouldn't be attracted to in real life (not even considering a sexual attraction).
So I think, for me, whether a relationship ingame is straight or gay is secondary to the relationship itself. That's a lot to do with how tastefully the relationships are done, at least the ones I have tried thus far. My character's involvement in this part of the game is more to do with love than sex, sex is just a natural extension of that. Like I said, I am attracted to men, but I would never explore love with a man in real life because when it came to sex I'd be running for the hills. In the game I have no problem, so well done Bioware!
I'm seriously considering making a module involving a homosexual love interest and have the concept down on paper. It's good to see so many people here (99%) are absolutely fine with same-sex relationships in game (even if they don't explore them) and I'd love to push some more content out in that vein. My biggest worry is offending the gay and lesbian community (by making silly heterossexual-biased mistakes) over the heterosexual one, and I think that speaks volumes for the community here.

I am a straight married man and am comfortable enough with my sexuality to allow my characters, who are not me, to veer in whatever path they may. My male elven rogue had an affair with Zevran. It was interesting to see how it turned out. I like how comfortable with the entire "situation" Zev is. He even got jealous of the girls that my elf had messed around with. I have not tried with Alistair, with either male or female, but I plan to eventually for the achievement at least.
I usually don't play female characters, but have created a couple recently just to see how different the story turns out for them (mostly after my wife asking what happens when Morrigan makes her "proposition" later in the game). I think there is a romance (or at least high approval) between Leliana and one of my female characters, but have not explored it on the lesbian end.

The other romances will be tough since I like Leliana so much. Would anyone else care about a Leliana fan club to compete with the Alistair club? I'll be a card-carrying member.

what i want to know is how many companions can you have a romance with? i know you can with leilana and morrigan and alistair. im a male player and i have one male character and one female character, but im sort of being a lesbian with my female character because i feel uncomfortable trying to seduce a male.

i have no moral problems with any of the options in game so i am lacking the whole fetish mentality about that. yes i'm a male irl and my main character is a female but she's looks like a witch instead of a beauty queen for example. the romance part is just a sidenote in the game for me really but i have no dilemma's about it if it would come up somehow. the only one which i would not romance with that character is alistair because he's a misfit for the kind of game she's playing but i am not allowed to dump him.

That would be a spoiler... though I'm sure in the spoiler forums, you can find the answer.

I'm a male playing a male character but i'm more than happy to get with Zevran.
Only to get back at Morrigan... I am beginning to mistrust her... *shifty eyes*

My lvl 24 mage & 20 rogue are both girls and I myself am a guy in real life
I made them both straight
Tonya , my blonde dwarven rogue fell in love with Zevran (Awww 2 blonde assassins in love!)
My mage , Nikki I made fall in love with Allistar
My male warrior I just made tonight I plan to have fall in love with Morrigan
So yes , I do all straightness with the characters even if I'm playing a girl

I hadn't planned on romancing any of my teammates. I've never been big on the whole romance minigamesque dialogue. if there were a character I'd liked to have a relationship with it would have been Witherfang/lady of the forest. She was stunning personality wise, and appearance.

I do play female characters after my first playthrough AND romance the male options in games. I at least try to roleplay the character as much as possible. Currently I'm playing a female city elf. A good person who suffers a traumatic experience and turns bitter and racist because of it. And she's romancing Zevran, first out of practical reasons (He'd probably be loyal if he got some nookie), and nowdays it's out of love.
When playing females, I always go for the male romance options first. On latter playthroughs I'll try the female-female paths if there are those.
I can't wait for my third playthrough to romance Alistair.

I laugh at these "I'm secure in my sexuality!" intros.
I'm not self-conscious of my weight, but do these jeans make me llook fat? Er.. fatter?

I think that's an important part of respecting other sexual preferences, being secure in your own. I've been labelled borderline throughout my life, but I'm absolutely sure of what I am inside. That makes things so much easier, I'll leave the confusion to others. I think it is relevant when discussing a topic such as this - and just because I'm straight doesn't mean I'm not interested in exploring other possibilities (if only intellectually).

If I feel more connected to my character and feel like I actually have a say in what I do then I feel more comfortable playing a male. If the game completely lacks role-playing depth then I'll play a female.
In the future, though, I could foresee myself making a female and going with Ali. Did the same for Mass Effect and it was very heart-warming. Why can't the girl romances be as awesome as the dudes??
Also: there's a mod out there for male characters allowing you to romance Alistair : ) Pretty nifty for those guys who preferred him far above Zev, I know I would.

Yeah, what's the deal with that? I plan on trying out all the romances if only just to see all the dialogue and how they play out. But seems kinda sexist only giving achievements for getting the female romances.

Decided to not read all the replys(I is lazy) but I will respond with my opinion on the topic at hand:
First and foremost, im a dude; a male; a man.
I beat the game once, male who romanced morrigan(this ending made me feel that im not done with the game at all and am eagerly awaiting a DLC or something
) and iv already made my second char, female who I am planning to romance alistair or zev, but after just starting the char im starting to consider leliana as well, though so far im leaning towards zev since I have already had leliana and alistair in my previous play through(I would like to bring the person im trying to do it with in my group heh)
But as a more concrete answer: I am straight myself, though I have no qualms playing a female and being straight(meaning romancing a guy as a girl), or for that matter playing a guy and being gay.

I laugh at your incorrect assumption that such intros are a self-conscious defense of the author's sexuality rather than the introduction of hearsay evidence to disprove a silly allegation perpetuated by certain people.vhatever wrote...

I find playing female characters a unique experience. I think the female body is very elegant, but for this game I wanted to be a male like myself so i could fantasize on what it would be like if i was actually in the game. Female= surreal experience Male= realistic.
