Commander Shepard, the first human Spectre. That was the whole point of the first game and lets face it Spectres are basically jedis in the ME universe. You were going around the galaxy being the ultimate cop. It was awesome.

For ME2 the whole Spectre thing was practically dropped, you could get kicked out and even if you were reinstated it didn't matter at all. There were maybe 2 sidemissions were you actually said you were a Spectre.
Doesn't anyone care that Shepard is running around the galaxy doing whatever he wants? shooting whoever he wants without any authority whatsoever? Makes no sense.

So for ME3 it certainly appears that it won't matter at all again. You are on trial (which is fine to be honest, you killed 300,000 batarians with no evidence) then you bust out and raly the forces of the galaxy. But why is the rest of the galaxy going to listen to him? he has no position of power. Other then being the first one saying they were coming .

I really hope that for ME3 we can get a return to the Spectres. That Shepard has some authority again. Make him "top" Spectre or something. Especially if the VS is going to be a Spectre, technically outranking Shepard if he declined the Spectre position in ME2.

More Spectre action for ME3!

I'd like to see Garrus as a spectre. Or Liara <3

Well, Shepard doesn't actually need spectre status to kick the VS's butt if it becomes a problem since the Normandy is their own ship.

But it would be nice to be formally recognized again.

Shepard, the top-ranking Spectre...who killed 300,000 Batarians. Has a nice ring to it ;)

But seriously, yeah, I do want them to at least acknowledge that we were once (or still are) a Spectre. That being said, I'd like to see other Spectres.

I agree for the most part. We all heard of Spectres. If not most of us. ME 1 exemplified them greatly. ME 2 with VS speaking about Shepard as a fantastic human Spectre, Vasir from LotSB talking about Spectres. Occasional instances of Spectre mentions on the Citadel, and other small instances. It would be nice to have some authoritative representation of himself when he goes around the galaxy trying to recruit societies to fight the Reapers. He'd be going off as "I'm Commander Shepard of SR2 Normandy. I'm the first human Spectre and I'm in need of your assistance to fight against the Reaper threat. *insert Paragon or Renegade declaration here*"

Also another reason is because Ashley/Kaidan have been promoted to being Spectres as well. If they're Spectres fighting for the greater cause, then Shepard should be an even better Spectre fighting as a leading commander for the greatest cause of the galaxy!

I agree. That, along with Shep receiving the Prothean cipher (which I also hope will have some importance again), made Shep more integral to the plot. I liked that better than him being important just because he exists.

I would like the cipher and his ability to link up to beacons and not die to be important for ME3. Shep being made a spector again would be nice and if any alliance personnel is left over I wouldn't mind pulling double duty for them again.

I'm also hoping that spectre reinstatement has some meaning in ME3. It's true that Shepard returns to the Alliance right? So, surely, it has to do something... Maybe some weapons or mods or something.

It's just why make Spectres such a big deal for the first game and in the ME universe and then ignoring it for the sequels?

Take what we did on the Citadel and Illium, we assaulted and killed dozens of people without any evidence, authority and no one mentions this? That's like an ex-cop going all Rambo on Manhattan killing 40+ people and doing some severe property damage and face no repercussions.

It was such a mistake to make it possible not to be a Spectre in ME2, it screws everything up.

Very true. It seems like a waste to build it up...in particular, builing up being a human spectre as so important and then not go anywhere with it in the last game. Even if the only thing they do with it is "You're not as important as you once were, Shepard", that would show how far humanity has come.

I like it. My Shepard feels like the kind of person conspiracy freaks would go nuts about. "Disbarred from the Spectres, just before she ran riot in the Terminus Systems and capped it all by blowing up the Bahak relay? Yeah...that is the official story. But only an idiot believes the official story."

Yeah...I'd like to be able to tell people I'm a spectre rather than do the "I'm with the alliance navy". N7 is cool and all but I feel like it is forced....I don't want another situation where I have to work with a specific group again. I'm hoping they will allow us to introduce ourselves as spectre agent Shepard and to have others (especially Salarian, Asari, and Turiand leadership) to recognize our spectre status.

In 2185, the first human spectre was declared an enemy of the state for working with a known terrorist organization. This individual and her team promptly fled to the Terminus systems to continue their preparations for the coming fight. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem...if no one else can help...and if you can find them...maybe you can hire...Shepard’s Team. *Cue music*

Just remembered that all of my favourite side-quests are on the Citadel where you can use your Spectre status to get things done. The quarian harassed by c-sec, Thane's son and the two asari on the no-fly list.

Being a Spectre actually meant something then.

Shepard spent most of the game in the Terminus Systems where there is no authority whatsover. Makes perfect sense to me.

Most of the sidequests on the Citadel actually mentioned your Spectre status. "You think you're gonna run in a Spectre?"; "My name's Shepard. I'm a Spectre" "Prove it!" "I don't have to prove anything. Spectre's are above the law."
