Do people really think those are some kind of uber-shut-everyone-up-customization options? People have too low standards these days. SMH

I would say those are the bare minimum expected from a game that is still an RPG at heart (or at least claims to be). Shooters have had similar or greater customization mechanics. I don't even see the point of having ammo-type skills (and not item based) unless they expect you to play soldier as default, which like 70% of people do.

It is a start I guess.

And your high standard customization games?, where are they, ah yes, they are "RPG's", we have dismissed those games...

for being BORING.

There is more to RPG than deciding between 1% more damage from a weapon and 2% more damage reduction from your armor.  Those are the most kiddyschool way to do RPG.  Decisions choices and most importantly consequences are the heart and soul of an RPG.

Guys, do you think that in the middle of a gun fight I'm going to say, "Reloading my 5.56 NATO equipped M4A1 Carbine with a 30 round magazine!" He is getting shot at, why does he have to say "Thermal Clips." And your come back is probably going to say, "Well...well...BioWare started it >:(" Can't we all just let it go, does it really kill you guys to hear a different word once and a while, you know, mix it up?

For RPG anoraks, it's how they get their rocks off. By drooling over numbers and haggling with dwarven merchants.

well at least Bioware is staying coherent about shields this time around.

Shepard has no0 shields when he is not wearing his armor let's hope that means no more Jack-like BS outfits

Yeah...that will do nicely.

With all those options nobody will have the same squadmates, much less the same Shepards.

That'll do nicely, good job Bioware.

The weapon customization looks amazing! I've been asking for something like Kotor's workbench since the first game and we've finally got it! THANK YOU FOR THAT, BIOWARE!!! Great job! XD

The power customization actually looks pretty sweet too! Can't wait to see more of it!

They will hate this game then,...Bioware left out the Darvern merchants all together.

You know I don't think I could be a game designer, because no matter what they do, someone B@@ches.

Yeah well, some people like games to move forwards, not backwards. But I guess "boring" now stands for "too complex for me".

Too bad.

So? Mass Effect already has a branching storypath and they are not taking that out as far as I know, are they? Are you arguing that less options = better RPG? Choices are important in RPGs, but so is building your character uniquely (mechanics wise, not only cosmetically), so deeper more complex Skill Trees plus tons of customization is also important and adds to that.

All that I see is people cheering for something that sould have been done the last game, which was revising the weapons customization that they simply took out. And I said it is a first step but could be better, so what is the problem?

Just one nitpick, everything else looks like it's going to be the best game that I will probably play, but just ONE thing.

Bioware, Anderson said he was running low on AMMO? Really?!! Why not Thermal Clips, it kinda, y'know actually fits the lore?

has anyone actually read the codex or any of the damn books?  Cuz for your information, the guns of mass effect STILL USE AMMO!

Looked to me like Anderson had shields though, and he is in the same uniform as Shepard

I love this

people really need to stop confusing "complex" "complicated" "simple" "streamlined" and "dumbed down"

because this happens a lot around here especially when some connotative meanings are thrown in

a lot of RPGs are needlessly complicated but lack depth really. Not just videogames but PnP games too I mean take MERPG. Others have depth but are nicely streamlined so the system does not impact the game flow (take the NWoD games and to a point Ars Magica) without losing their complexity

that said

SADLY, ME2 managed to streamline ME1 but also lost a LOT of the complexity and depth that came with it for the sake of "accessibility"....which is utter BS if you ask me. ME1 was not un-accessible, it was just needlessly redundant

yeah but  ammunitions are not getting low since wach "block" can fire tens of thousands of them......quite literally the thermal clips are low, not the ammo

ME1's complexity had depth? Lulz. Until I played ME1 I thought Dungeon Siege was the reigning king of simplifying RPGs.

no, MAss Effect 1 had depth in general, its little complexity was redundancy masquerading as larger complexity

Yeah, this.

The RPG fan in me would love to get in a tissy fit over ME2's streamlining, but the simple truth is that ME1 had virtually no depth at all. And when it comes to RPG elements, I only like them when they add depth. IMO ME2 just removed garbage, not real RPG elements.

ME3 looks like it may be the first game in the series to have some proper RPG depth in it. Sweet.

Seriously how muhc do you need? BG2 had what, none. Fo1/2 I can't c\\recall mods for guns off the top of my head. KoTOR had 3 slots total for guns. ME1 which everyone cries for had 2 or 3 slots? You really don't need any at all for an RPG but there's only so much you can do.

Hopefully at a workbench you can upgrade whatever you've researched and you aren't carrying that junk with you.

It had depth but the inventory/mods system wasn't part of it. That was trash that people through was deep. The linear leveling of weapoins/mods and armor was terrible and, since they happily numbered it for you,l wasn't all that hard.
