What's your opinion on the new Paragon/Renegade display meter, and its usage for other squadmates?

I think it looks much better, although the old one wasn't to bad, but this one is more straight to the point and it looks so sleek. It also reminded me very much of the one in KotOR. Image IPB

So I def had an instant nostalgia rush, and remembered BioWare saying how ME was very much intended to be like KotOR in alot ways but more epic and bigger.

Also speaking of which, how about the squadmates with a Paragon/Renegade meter? Do you think it will be similar to KotOR 2 where you can influence your companions, make them more renegade for example? I'm thinkibg it has to be, and if so thats pretty exciting news. Just think of the possibilities for more indepth character roleplaying.... endless...

For me, the Paragon/Renegade meter on the squadmates it's a small bug, the game is on alpha stage you know...

Where are the multiple points to evolve for powers? that can't be the whole list of abilities, I'm assuming.

I don't like the icons being so blunt and in your face. I REALLY liked the subtly of the last meter. I also dislike the choice of color. The iconography and the colors just make me think "OH MY GOD AMERICA". xD But thats just me. I'm picky about appearances.

Depends on how it works in the end..

If it ends up being a continuum scale, what it could mean is that now there is a more equal treatment in-game for Paragons, Paragades and Renegades (whereas before, Paragade was always the weakest choice). In other words, the meter only shows your Shep's position (or rating) on the scale, and not just a simple tally of 'morality points'.

However, if it just fills up one way for Paragon, another for Renegade, then there wouldn't really be much of a change from what we've already got.

As long as the bars are still indepent like in ME/ME2 I will be happy, if it's like the moral bar in KOTOR/JE I will be disappointed.

I don't think they would randomly change that for game 3...

The multiple evolutions occur at different points in the power itself. For instance, you'll notice that both Shepard and Garrus have points in thrown explosive abilities. Garrus has "Proximity Mine" while Shepard has "Frag Grenade." Neither power was maxed out, IIRC, which leads me to believe that both are a single power, such as "Grenade," but evolved in different ways.

That's what I was going to say.  One of the things I love in Mass Effect is being able to be both Paragon AND Renegade.  If they force you to be one or the other they're really hurting it.

You have to hit A to evolve a power to get the branches.

As for the bars, I like them and the rest of the UI for the squad. I think the bars being on the squad is just an artifact of an alpha build.

I personally like the idea of the characters having their own paragon and renegade powers. That most likely means that the characters will be making their own choices based off how Shepard acts, making the game more interesting. I really want to see how that plays out.

Sucker Punch tried that with Infamous... It wasn't as great as I initially expected to be honest. Not trying to establish needless comparions between developers, but there's that.

The screen as a whole looks quite attractive to me

I liked the "influence" mechanic in KOTOR II so hopefully it is something like that. If that is the case it will probably only affect story based decisions like who follows you to the end, lives, dies, etc. A more serious RPG mechanics approach would mean it also affect stats, powers and the like, but I doubt they take it that far.

Let's hope it is something interesting and not only a cosmetic change for once.

Well, it doesn't mean that it is a bad mechanic, just badly implemented. The problem I see with that kind of stuff is that the story suffers because choices tend to become completely binary, (even more so). This already happens in ME so I would welcome at least a non-story reward for that, it would add even more incentive for a new playthrough.
Of course, in a class based game the permutations become many more so dev time increases as well.

I don't think this will be the final screen, only a prototype to calm us down.

Same for the paragade meter for the squad, I think it will disappear in the final version of the game.
