I don't remember a fight against YMIR mechs where it isn't possible to relocate and survive. Usually there's somewhere they can't get to as well, and you can just pop out of cover and wear them down. It may be the boring way, but that always works without Stasis.

Yet another situation where I love my infiltrator by the way. You can drag them around as much as you need and deal some good damage while you're at it. They just can't corner you.

... if I had a piece of candy for every time this silly forum logged me out, why I'd have myself a whole thing of candy!

Whenever there's two (or three) YMIRs... I nuke'em.

Then I finish their armor off and blow them up.

Just keep their mini-guns obstructed. Don't be tempted to 'stick' to cover... find some tall cover and stand behind it without sticking, and use that to obstruct the mini-gun of the one you're dealing with.

Note: In Garrus' loyalty, if you hit them in the cranes with Overload or I think any biotic physics attack (can't quite remember for sure... will have to try again some time), they'll fall, ragdoll, and take damage. Pretty funny.

Any that are on cranes can be knocked down with concussive shot too, and it usually kills them, an easy way to shorten the fight. All three Ymirs in Garrus's loyalty can be knocked down and killed before you really have to fight them, it is incredibly easy if you have Zaeed to pair with Garrus.

This way is more fun!!

^This.

Seriously though, I can never figure out why sometimes squadmates get stuck on the platforms. I think they spawn new sprites (or whatever you call it) when you drop down to trigger the YMIRs/ Something similar like this happens when you enter the last area on Horizon, and squadmates get stuck behind the doors.

Yup, Gravity Shenanigans are hilarious in this game (except when they happen to you). Stasis is great for this, as you can Stasis snipe at least one of them while they're still over 'illegal ground', causing a gravity/out of bounds kill.

It's cheap but the 2 mechs on Garrus's Loyalty mission can be bypassed. Just sprint past where they would spawn in and go to the stairs after Harkin. Charge one of the bots at the top. Just move over closer to the door and the cutscene will start.

Like I said cheap & lame but that's life.

Otherwise take advantage of Stasis. It's slightly less cheap but it's still there.

If you want to do it fair & square just trigger the event then fall back into cover. Try to pull one guy back in cover with you. If the mechs get too close then retreat. Concentrate on one. If you can get it the rest is easy.

This is how you kill the Garrus Loyalty YMIRs: YouTube Link

Skip to 10:30 and you'll see them explode instantly.
They can be killed instantly, as Locutus said.
Biotics work (I used Throw on one), as I suspected.

LOL, that's awesome! Do they always die when they fall down or do you have to hit em before they are above the area where you would figth em?

I almost felt sorry for those poor heavy mechs ;)

Seems they simply have to land 'out of bounds'. Which means you have to hit them the moment you see them and be precise about it (since at that distance it won't highlight them for auto-targeting the squad powers).

^Yeah, they need to "land out of bounds" to guarantee a kill - otherwise, leaving it up to the engine's fall damage can be iffy. The game treats elevations strangely. I think this can also be seen in the Object Rho fight, where Object Rho instakills whoever lands on it, and where Flashbangs can kill YMIRs as well.

This is pretty much the art of power sniping, and Garrus' LM is an amazing level for it. Sometimes powers can lock on, even with no highlight. Eg: Incinerate usually tracks targets, even when zooming in on them from well well past 40m.

Heavy weapons when there's two YMIR mechs. It's those kind of situations that you heavy weapons for.

For two YMIRs, use the M-920 Cain or the Arc Projector.

There are game engine glitches, listed above, you can use, but I prefer to do it the hard way myself.
