[Confused-Shepard]

Missed opportunity. Little kid should have been with us on the Normandy. You'd have to explain in simple terms what's going on and he'd provide a very innocent viewpoint into the world of Mass Effect. He'd ask you simple but thoughtful questions. Th kids name could be Casey and be Male/Female depending on Shep's gender.

Not really, if he does die in the scene people have listed then one way of looking at it is Humanity's future being killed off.
Besides which he isn't the first kid to die in the series, although we won't have seen those deaths (the colonists that got liquified by the Reapers).

Course, unless the shuttle he gets on gets completely and utterly obliterated, I suppose they could have it that he survives and Shepard runs across him again when shep comes back and thus giving Shep some encouragement that humanity can survive.

I can see there being a major emotional reaction from Shepard regarding the child if he/she had the Colonist background. Shepard could see the child mirroring himself/herself when raiders attacked his/her home. Shepard probably hid during the attack, thinking about how everyone was dying and believing no one could help.

IMO it really adds to the emotional weight of that short scene if you had that to it.

Hmmm... with the Reaper invasion and threat of indoctrination, maybe ME3 will be exploring Shepard's psyche. Mac Walters said as much in a recent interview.

I think that kid is maybe Shepards projection, too. Just the way how the boy says "you can't help me, then vanishes... weird. A real little boy in that situation would cling to everyone who would help him. Maybe it is really Shepard's breaking point, where he cannot hold himself togather anymore, and it's perfectly understandable...

But if it's not this, then I don't see the point of that scene.

Shepard ought to punch the kid to make sure it's not a hallucination. If it isn't..at least he could drag the unconcious kid from the vent. Win-win

I think it is meant to be a real kid and create emotional impact it just came across as somewhat creepy rather than heartbreaking. “You can’t help me” just seems like a really weird thing for a kid to say. To me at least

IMO, it would only reinforce the notion that the kid is in fact an hallucination, thus not real. However, it has been mentioned in the first page of this thread that he is indeed real. For shame...

Ah I missed that.
I hope they tweak this scene then. It’s just that little bit off and its making it uncanny. Unless of course that was what they are going for.
Maybe instead of "you can't help me" which just seems strange for a kid, like he has some weird supernatural connection and already knows he is doomed perhaps they could have him see the reaper in the background, freak out a bit and refuse to leave the vent. Maybe stuttering no and backing up or something.

It would be a master touch if the little boy (or girl) changes to look like the player's Shepard.

I don't know if anyone has already raised this, but an article on OXM and one other website have already confirmed that the child is seen boarding an Alliance shuttle which is then destroyed by a Reaper.
