Automatic Assault Rifles that don't suck

Honestly, I love the vindicator, and the avenger, but they had absolutely no OOMPH. They felt weak, and prior to upgrades, pretty much were weak.
By Oomph I don't necessarily even mean straight damage. Or recoil. I just mean the...feel.
Hope that makes sense.

Full auto, by it's nature, can't be good, because it would be overpowered and boring. They are so predictable: each individual bullet does negligible damage, the spread increases the longer you fire, and... that's pretty much it. They are all the same damn weapon.
I ALWAYS prefer semi-auto firing. It's that 1:1 relationship between pulls of the trigger and brains being splattered. Each bullet can pack a punch and accuracy is consistent. It gives you the feeling of reaching out and touching enemies that you just don't get by laying on the bullet hose.
This isn't about which firing mode is superior. Prince, myself, and others just want other fully automatic rifles besides the Revenant to be obviously competitive. Not better, not worse, just remain viable.

People use the term "clip" and mean "magazine." It is commonly accepted by those who aren't gun enthusiasts, especially gamers. When my friend says he got a new machine pistol with "+50 rounds in the clip" in Borderlands, I know exactly what he's talking about. Whether or not it is technically correct is immaterial. It's informal, conversational speech. It's colloquial.
As far as your suggestion goes, Hathur, I'd also support another LMG, but I love damn near any large automatic weaponry, so I'm a tad biased. I'd kind of like to see a blue LMG that is a newer model built specifically to take some of the Revenant's market share by some rival arms manufacturer. Perhaps it could have a tighter spread but a less frenzied rate of fire and a smaller clip. Better instant gratification, but less DPS for those heavy targets.
Oi you should see the people near me who get their panties in a bunch when you call outdoor charcoal grilling a BBQ. "A BBQ uses indirect heat blah, blah" Sorry suck it up folks language changes. Blame hollywood if you want, but a clip is the commonly used term for what gun people call a magazine.

Can't speak for damage output... but during the Gameinformer interviews with the sound team of ME3, they played a sample of the new avenger gun sound... vastly improved and definitely had that "oomph" factor you're looking for (no longer sounds like a laser rifle pew-pewing)... as for how much damage it does in game, who knows

Also, on the subject of weapon sounds, try using Adrenaline Rush with the Collector's assault rifle. The cheesy "pew-pew" sound cracks me up. I still love it. Darn, now I'm gonna have to play a soldier again.

I wonder about the Revenant and its use in ME3. Will there be changes to give it a bigger clip(not gonna change that one anymore, I give up)? Better accuracy?(I hope)
If you increase the Revenant's Accuracy you break the game^_^

Yeah. I assume that with upgrades in ME3 even the weaker auto AR's can be made to not suck as much, but I want a BASE gun to not be bad.
Spraying a room down with an auto AR is empowering. I want that feeling without having to be a Soldier. Also, as good as the Tempest is, it IS an SMG, and I'm looking for a bigger and bolder assault rifle to get the same effect.

edit: though how you make full auto ARs good while keeping SMGs worth taking I'm not sure.

The GPR is pretty solid, I thought.
Not from what I can tell. Its supposed to be on par with the Vindicator, and I say to hell with that.
There's a video online showing that at least from a somewhat close range, its hardly more effective than an Avenger.
That's what I got out of it when I used it, too. Out of the automatics(playing a Vanguard, so no Revenant) I'd pick the Collector's AR. In reality, I'll likely end up using the Mattock just because it has the same effect as the Collector's AR(being able to deliver consistent damage down range without drop off) except its more controlled AND it does much more damage.

It was just a shame it was fairly weak, so i hope it gets beefed up for ME3.

That might add to keeping a gun looking and feeling fresh.

Listen up people, the difference between an LMG and an assualt rifle is the caliber of the bullet shot, not magazine size. A Thompson could hold a drum magazine with 150 rounds, doesn't mean its a LMG. LMG's firer higher caliber rounds resulting in the need for a stand because of its kickback, and it has to be fired in short bursts, otherwise you'll melt the barrel from the heat.
And the Revenant needed a large clip because most of the rounds missed, unless you had the accuracy upgrade. Then, simply use AR and fire in three round burst, and then you have broken the game.
Better than the Mattock. "Oh, I'm going to fire 80 rounds in you, but I have to reload four times." Revanant can do that, AND more because it holds 400 rounds. To you Mattock lovers,

On top of that, they don't waste ammo. So they've got counter arguments, too. lol

I had no actual problem with the auto ARs, so long as I didn't try and shoot the whole thermal clip in one go (too much lean out of cover to expect survival...)
Besides, they may customize thermal clip capacity (we don't know yet), but why would you want the extended thermal clip on the Revvie? With 80 shots per thermal clip, it already has the biggest capacity of all the guns in the game, I myself virtually never run out of ammo...
It's just my opinion though...

Don't suck? Please, rifles never suck. Try cleaning them with Jacob next time. Oh wait, he isn't around anymore.
Sorry for going off topic, but where did you hear that? He wasen't my favorite or anything, but I'd miss him if he's really gone.
On topic:
Yea I'd like something that "feels" like shooting an AK-47, everything but the Rev just feels weak.

As for an AK-47 type gun.
YES.
I want an auto AR that feels STRONG.

The Revenant is the best gun, love the magazine size, even though some people would consider it an LMG, even though the size of a magazine has nothing to do with that.

Too bad that the Codex itself refers to it as a light machine gun.
And the Mattock's base damage is more than twice as high as the Revenant's. And you have much higher precision with it than the Revenant, which you must pulse fire if your don't want to miss and unless you're right up in your enemy's face with it.
