Agreed.
But they have to offer exclusive content, as there is no way EA can compete in terms of customer service.
I'll be going hardcopy anyway.

I wouldn't be so frustrated by it if i didn't have to run origin as a third party program to run Mass effect 3.

That horrid third party device is so processor heavy in comparison to steam or even games for windows live for that matter.

Not to mention it takes forever to shut down for some reason, at least on my computer.

Has it been confirmed that they are going to force it down our throats like many devs tried to do with Steam? If so, got a source link?

There no sources i could find that can confirm nor disprove.
It's still a long time away from release so things can change even though i don't see it happening.

In the case that it does continue down the same path, I'll most likely get it on steam and obtain the downloadable content..through other methods..

I have returned plenty of games to retailers because Steam was forced onto my system when I didnt want it, and instead of installing from disk it tried to download the game instead. Not acceptable as we dont have unlimited internet deals in Australia, and 1 game can cost at least half our monthly download quota.
I will do the same thing with ME3 if Origin is forced onto my system and it isnt listed as a requirement on the outside of the packaging. Retailers have tried the "once youve opened/registered it" routine with me, and Ive simply quoted the New South Wales (Australia) Consumer Protection Act back at them. This is the same legal guideline which renders all EULA's invalid, as they are not clearly defined on the outside of the box, and forcing them onto the consumer after the point of sale is illegal.

I'll got with the hardcopy as well if ME3 is an Origin exclusive.

It's still likely that you'll need Origin as a back party program to run ME3 K177, like Valve does with steam for its retail games.

Well, there goes any pre-order I was going to place. I'm going to need way more information before I decide whether or not I want to legitimately acquire Mass Effect 3.

If I can go to an actual brick-and-mortar game store and purchase ME3 with cash money dollars and then bring it home and install it on my computer from the discs in the box, then we're cool, you can have my money.

If I bring that box of discs home from the store and it tries to pull a Steam and install Origin on my computer to download files that by all rights SHOULD have been on the disc that was in the box, and then find out Origin has to be running in the background for me to even PLAY the game, then that's kind of a deal-breaker right there.

I'll be sad to miss out on what has so far been my favourite videogame series of all time, but I just don't have the patience or tolerance for this sort of nonsense.

It's pity that only on Origin, yeah we know that EA want to make Origin more popular with help of Mass Effect3 but please think about ur fants too, we are not guilty. For example ive made my ME collection on Steam, it's more convinient for me, cuz of community groups where i always know all news i need of different game portals, then my friend lists, etc, etc. Please dont forget ur fans.

Exclusives? What are you guys talking about?

I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition of ME3 through Amazon, so the Collector's Edition is available in a "regular" copy, not just through download.

Unless I'm mistaken, all of the "extras" - the robotic dog, the alternate outfits, etc, are also the same. The download only has a slightly different name. Other than that, it's the exact same edition.

Exclusive? Everything listed there is included in the CE edition.

My real issue is if ME3 will try to install Origin. I don't mind a disk check, but keep Origin out of my computer, please. I already own Steam and it does everything Origin does and better.

It may try to make you install Origin, like some Steam games. Image IPB

If that be the case I'll be getting the xbox version. I've read the EULA on the Origin download manager, and that chunk of spyware isn't going my PC period. No way am I agreeing to allow any of the information that they want on my system to be "collected" and possibly handed over to third party partners. And the only thing truly Origin exclussive about ME3 is the digital deluxe edition that you download. So, at that rate, the people waiting for it to be on steam are probably going to be waiting a long time.
