Since both we and squadmates are getting more abilities, will we still have a cap of 30 and the same number of skills or if we'll get a higher cap or lewer still requirements to compensate?

Well the screenshots showed that Shep was at lvl. 18 with one bar filled to the end, another with 4 bars out of 6, one with 2 bars filled and two more powers with 1 bar filled.  And there are 8 powers in total, so the level cap probably has been raised.

Yeah, I'm guessing that point costs are lowered and that each level takes up only 1 point each. Awesome. I'm hoping that we'll be able to get higher than 30 though.

Since we don't know how many levels there are in maximum, and since we don't know how many ability squad points are awarded per level, and since we don't know how many of those it takes to max out a skill, doesn't that mean we should put this question on hold....?

We can still speculate. Until the game comes out, anything could change. Case in point, at one point it was said there wouldn't be any new same-sex romances, but that's been more or less repealed.

A little "what if" never hurt anyone, right?

I remember when the devs would come here and answer questions like this. What happened between Monday and now?

A while ago, well before ME2 was even out, I believe several devs said on the old forums that they put the level cap at 30 in ME2 with the basic idea that when you imported to ME3 afterwards you wouldn't need to reset again (like you had to in ME2) and would cover the last 30 levels there instead (i.e. 31 - 60). Then again, that was so long ago things may have changed now (though it has been noted that if you import you pretty much carry on from where you left off for the most part).

The level cap may be in the 40-50 range this time around.

Yes. I remember that. Sigh.

It would make sense. They could double the number of powers as well. New players would earn twice as much XP. That would allow both to end up at the same level at the end of the game.

Well if they start from ME2 point and kinda expand that into lets say a lvl 50, or 60 cap from ME1. 1-20 then 21-40, and 41-60 would make the most sense I think. That's basically 70 points to spend, every skill seems to max at 12 points which is equal to ME1, and close to ME2 10 pointers. So just kinda makes sense there. With that total you'd be able to max out 5 skills + have 10 points left over, add to that +2 bonus points for lvl 1, or +2 bonus points for picking that bonus power (or both) and thats 6 skills maxed out by lvl 60.

Regardless of lvl 50-60 max I'd imagine thats roughly how many skills they're going to be maxable with 8-9 total things to have available. Seems inline with how it was with ME2 anyways, and ME1 for the most part.

Anyways thats my speculative guess for the day in relation to that. I also want to say the upgrade skill system from what I've seen looks waaaay beyond what I was expecting. I figured there would be 2 'branch points' with 2 options per. Something basic like that. But having 8-9 literal 'ways' to upgrade EACH freaking point to customize every skill is damn absurdly AWESOME. My brains oozing with happyness over it.

-edit-
Actually 1 more thing occured to me in relation to the last thing I said about the number of upgrade...things. It occured to me that the, lets say 9 upgrade options as you advance down a skill may not be repeat uses. What I mean is, I think each point you might only pick 1, so by maxing out a skill you've picked 6 in total out of the 9. That'd make more sense. Otherwise you'll just get people who max out dmg to absurd degrees, also would explain why some have mixed values and share a lot of stuff.

Yeah, what happened to starting at 30 and working towards 60?
