The whole Redcliff sequence has been ridiculously overpowered. First it took me like 3 hours of constantly reloading to beat the zombie siege, then I got stuck on those effing Mubaris in the castle (overwhelm was literally killing me), and now the worst is the big revenant (I think that's what it was called) in the courtyard. I found a way to take out everything BUT that thing before actually fighting it (the skeletons get aggro'd if you run into the corner but everything else stays), and still can't beat the thing with my entire party! I have my character (dual wielding human fighter), Alistair, Sten, and Morrigan. Most of my char's are level 7-8 (I went here first after Lothering since that seemed the obvious plot choice). The thing is about impossible to hit and kills REALLY fast, plus that aura nerfs me like crazy...how do you win this fight?

Open the gate to the knights. There, free meat shields.

Can't. It says "you may not do this while in combat" or something to that effect.

Let the npcs tank it while you go kill everything else. The NPC's weren't even close to dieing by the time I came back to finish it off.

I must be really missing something. How do you get the gates open? It won't let me open the door.

You need to sneak over to the gate to open it. The "combat" doesn't start until you get close to him. Without spoiling anything, future revenants will be optional.

you can open the gate while in combat i do it everytime, not to mention the revenant isn't that hard, focus your tank on revenant as well as melee dps and make sure both characters are set to heal themselves with pots(so you don't have to constatly switch to them) then use your pc to take out the skeletons, or just kill the revenant first and worry about the skeletons when the only hard enemy in the courtyard is dead

I would make sweet love to that spell if I could. That, and Force Field saved my ass against Elite encounters countless times.Y3110WD4RT wrote...

I just paralyzed him and had my rogue wander over and kill it in about 10s(coup de grace 4tw) while the rest of the party worked on the other trash, no NPC's necessary.

lol, I didn't even realize about the NPCs...
The Rev gave me some trouble on my first playthrough cuz most of my damage was either cold or from melee fighters, which the Rev puts the hurt on. Morrigan's autoattack ended up being the big damage-dealer b/c of the high armor pen on staves.

I didnt use pcs.
I pulled arches only and made them come to us by getting my party out of their sight uising a big tree.
Once they were dead I could pull the rest of undead around revenant without triggering him as well by keeping my party at the back and using once character to get their attention and move them to my party.
For revenant I just tried to interupt him whith as many abilities as possible and kept my tank on high enough helath so he wasnt in danger of being crushed.

That's only a yellow sub boss revanent, luck for you, you won't have to fight the boss level ones (in terms of Main Quest).

You can cheese this encounter (like so many others) with a ranged character, they can pull individual enemies away from the group, and kill the archers on the stairs, all done before the revenant notices you. Just stand at the end of the courtyard where you enter it from the basement and set your party to hold, then shoot arrows at individual enemies. They won't have their name displayed if they're far enough away, so make sure you don't target the slightly taller one too early. When he's finally the only one left, you have a full group dedicated to him that should be able to handle him, especially if you can freeze him as well for more cheese.
Everytime I let in the guards, they just die, even if the revenant is the only enemy left but somehow manages to get an AoE spell out...

why does everybody have go through so many unneccesary things and time to get past this fight, its not hard, charged in with sword and sheild warrior with alister, leliana and morrigan, took on all skeletons and revenant at the same time, easy as could be. its not that hard of a fight, the other optional revenants are alot harder

imo the game is very easy on nightmare with a pretty basic rogue/warrior/warrior/mage group aslong as you have a little crowd control on the mage nothing should pose a problem on any difficulty.

I found it difficult to crowd control revenants as they seem to resist everything. Nonetheless, I managed this encounter fairly early on by drawing the zombies one by one and then ganging on th revenant. You can also mega cheese it by having the character it's attacking run away from it (and therefore your party) freeing everyone else to hit it from range. Running away seems to solve most fight problems.

I used the "open gate let the knights in" trick - it works pretty well, because your team can quickly deal with the archers first that way, and Ser Whatsisname is tough enough to keep the Revenant occupied for a bit.
The later optional ones are ridiculously hard sometimes - in fact, mostly I can't be bothered with them. I tend to enjoy playing with mostly tactics and controlling my own character (as if I was in a bad PUG in an MMO
) and only micromanage necessary boss fights, and there's no real reward for the optional Revenants later on. Plus, from a RPG perspective, the Revenants are imprisoned for a reason - why not leave well enough alone?
That's one of the things I love about this game - so many varied ways of playing!

On my Warrior- I charged in with Alistair and my warrior, had Morrigan as a healbot, and Leliana asranged support; popping pcs when needed.
Things will be easier with my Arcane warrior. 2 Crushing Prisons + 2 Mind Blasts (Arcane Warrior and Morrigan) FTW!

I made a classic tactical mistake and ended up with me(mage), alistair, and morrigan all downed quite early into the fight... So I had Wynne solo it... Revenants aren't really that hard as long as you have enough healing
