I killed the elder tree in the Brecillian Forest and by the time i got to the Hermit, i had already killed all werewolves in both East and West forests and had sold their pelts (which are not still on vendors). So, i am unable to enter the Brecillian Ruins because i do not have a werewolf pelt and cannot get one. Is there help for this or am i just screwed and will never be able to complete any part of those quests? Please tell me there is a way to fix this! Thanks.
Stuck in Brecillian Forest - need help!

You don't need a werewolf pelt to go into the ruins.
You need the wand from the tree to get into that area, that is all.

If you have killed the ancient tree, you can have its wand and pass the magic wall easily.
Or if you don't want to fight with him, trade something valuable to the Mad Hermit (the book of Cammen, the scarf of the wife of aethas or the necklace of aethas, all of them are available for this exchange) or just simply kill the Hermits and loot all his goods, in both case you should have the precious thing of the tree.
then when you return the ancient tree it should appear the dialogue that allow you to return the precious for him and he will reward you the access through the wall

1) i killed the Ancient tree (so, i can't get the wand),
2) i killed all werewolves and sold their pelts earlier,
3) i came back to Dalish after completing all other treaty quests, and talked with the hermit
4) i have nothing to trade him and he will not fight me so i cannot kill him - the only way i can go on is if i have a werewolf pelt to give the hermit - however, i do not have one and cannot get one because all the werewolves are already dead and the pelts i sold to vendors are no longer on the vendors
5) i have no saved game to go back to because i did both forest parts after Lothering and before doing the other treaty quest lines - i only returned to talk to the Hermit after doing all the other treaty quest lines (i also did the Wynn companion quest already too)
so, i need some kind of fix or way to pass the barrier into the Brecillian Ruins! please help if you know a way i can get past the barrier - THANKS!!!

Fight with the hermit is easy, just disturb his tree hold nearby and he will turn hostile.
But if you've already killed the grand oak, DON'T KILL THE HERMIT. Just pick up one pelt, talk to the hermit and he can trigger the access for you through the barrier.
If you don't have one, too bad for you that you cannot achieve the quest in this way!!! You have to find a new pelt in the other locations or it is nearly impossible for you to pass the barrier.
So if you are stuck in the previous case, you should load your save when you still have some pelt, or the Grand Oak tree and the Hermit still present, and do start from it.

I appreciate your wanting to help. I do not have any of the earlier saves from this part of the game. I only returned to speak with the Hermit after completing all of the other treaty quest lines. I have already killed everything in both the East and West forests. The only way i can get into the Ruins is with a pelt but I do not have one and there are no werewolves left to kill to get one. So, unless there is a fix (or cheat) to get past the barrier, i cannot finish the game because i am stuck here (and that is a lot of hours of game play that will be wasted ... a lot of hours!!!)

You should have the PC to use the developer console, if you are using XBOX, sorry I can't help you, you should ask someone else.
Try to run this: runscript zz_wmp_debug with the developer console, and if it is possible, access the ruin. I'm not so sure if it can eliminate the Nature of the Beast quest entirely (so you don't encounter anything after using the code) or just let you access the ruin area.
I'm not sure if it exist some code that allow you to add items. As far as I know it exists only codes the "great" items and "great" item set, so such banal things like the pelts, may be it doesn't have.

There's a random map encounter where you fight a bunch of werewolves. If you keep traveling near the Breceilian Forest, you may be able to get that encounter and loot some werewolf pelts after you kill the werewolves in that encounter. (That encounter doesn't seem related to whether you side with the elves or werewolves in the Nature of the Beast quest.) Otherwise, if you can't buy the werewolf pelts back, you may have to reload a past save or use the console to add werewolf pelts to your inventory.

in the meantime, i will try travelling and see if i can get that random encounter

Please try the instructions in this: http://dragonage.wik...nsole_(Origins)
I guess this is not too complicated for you to figure it out, if you have some base knowledge about computing.

well, i have read it and do not have confidence that i can do it without screwing something up - i hate to impose, but someone explaining step-by-step how to add a werewolf pelt to inventory would be very helpful - thanks for the responses

Try again with this. I guess it is more comprehensive than dragonage.wikia itself, If you cannot get the random encounter which provide you wolves or werewolves, so this is your only chance without replaying more several hours.
After that, run developer console (typing the key ` or ~ as default, or using the key that you set) and then, try this line: runscript zz_wmp_debug
(Nothing will appear on your screen but don't worry about that, if you can type any thing on the keyboard without highlight something (maps, skills, inventory, etc), it is fine. Note that the enter key will automatically execute the command you write on the console) then choose the option that allow you to complete the quest or access the ruin area.
You cannot add the wolf pelts by using the developer console except some special items (because there is no code for it, pitiful!)
Anyway, good luck

You might also have a look at where your last auto-save was taken. Auto-save is generated by the game and occurs at various key points in the game.

Finally, there is a mod that allows you to add items to your inventory, which is very useful if you need a quest item and it has bugged/you missed it or whatever. You do need the dev console, but using this has less chance of affecting your saves.

To see what you are typing:
http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=1110
Other than that i'm all out of idea's. Why are all of the pelts gone from shops? They never disappear unless the shop restocks, and only certain shops do, and only at specific times. So is it just extreme bad luck?

okay, tried all that, but when i enter ~ and begin to type, stuff (like the map when i type "n" in "runscript") starts popping up on the screen. it is not working and i have tried to follow the instructions as carefully as i can - i have tried to repeat the whole procedure several times - any other suggestions? i have had no luck getting the random encounter with the werewolves so far (many, many attempts at that)

I could never get ~ to work, where you set the key press (originally grave or something) to ~ , instead use the ` key, the only key i can ever get to work. Also, download the second mod i posted as it allows you to see if it has worked (some white text will pop up at the top left saying "command:" or something similar if it has)
Why have all of your shops reset if you are only halfway through a quest is what i want to know?

The download allowed me to see the console - yay! However, this is what i get when i try to enter the phrase you suggested:
ERROR: Cannot run function "runscriptzz_wmp_debug"

in answer to your question about the shops, i played through the East and West Forests after going to Lothering but then left and did the other treaty quest lines before returning so i am guessing leaving and doing the other quests somehow caused the vendors to reset.

There is also a ring that you can pick up from that shade camp with +3 cunning on it that you can trade.
http://dragonage.wik...it#Valid_Trades
In the future, keep more than one save file for situations like this. In this instance, somewhere just before picking Brecilian Forest from the Ferelden map would be a good time to make a new file, or once you get done speaking to Zathrian the first time. This is also a good idea anytime you start some big quest or tough fight.

of course trading with the hermit won't do any good now because the ancient tree is dead but jfyi when i try to talk to him he says "haven't i already answered all your questions ... yes, i think i have" (something like that) and the conversation with him ends - i still have the Dusk Ring, btw but there are no dialogue options to trade it (but, like i said, it would not matter anyway at this point)

have you typed the right command? I saw you type runscriptzz_wmp_debug? You MUST type the "runscript" first, and then, type SPACE and then, the "zz_wmp_debug", then type the button ENTER

woot, that worked - allowed me to "finish" the Nature of the Beast quest line - *sigh* won't be able to gather all the Juggernaut pieces of armor or other special loot from the Ruins, etc - would love to have been able to have played through it! THANKS for all the help!!!
p.s. If you do have a solution for adding a werewolf pelt to my inventory i kept my save at the point where i was stuck.
