Point of Interest Discussion/Question: Squadmate betrayal?

What would be really interesting though, would be if the person who betrayed you was completely different based off of your previous decisions, and the only way to not be betrayed would be having some odd, convoluted save that most people wouldn't.
What I mean is, like the betrayer is say . . . Miranda, Jack, Zaeed, Samara, or Grunt.
Grunt 'cause as much as he respects Shep, he probably wants to see if he can take him in a fight and will look for an excuse. Possibly only prevented if he's dead or you never "woke him up".
Miranda 'cause of some sort of Cerberus thing. Only Prevented if you romanced her or dead.
Jack because of her general anarchic sensabilities. Only prevented if dead or you did loyalty mission but didn't romance her.
Zaeed 'cause someone paid him. Only prevented if dead.
Samara 'cause you'll be forced to do something that breaks her iron-clad code. Only prevented if dead, either through Suicide mission or choosing her daughter, who oddly enough won't betray you as she doesn't live by the code.
So basically the only way to not get a former teammate on your butt would to have a very odd save file. Otherwise you're bound to run into a few former allies as enemies.
Though it would still be good if you could convince most of em to NOT fight you.
Possible exception being Zaeed. I think Zaeed should be a boss fight almost no matter what.

Oh well. There was something about the demo that turned me away from it anyway, but I can't quite remember what it was.

I would think that it would be someone with plot armor ... Liara? VS? Anderson? Joker?
Will we see a really good WTF moment?
{Put character name here}: "Shepard." Gun pointed at the back of Shepard's head
Vega: "Shepard!"
Shepard turns to see {PCNH} about to kill him/her.
Gamer: "Dear god, nooooooooo! Not {PCNH}!!!! {PCNH} wouldn't do that! That isn't fair!" *tosses controller across the room*
*gamer runs to PC & the BSN to start the thread "Why {PCNH} would NEVER EVER betray Shepard! Bioware you suck!!!!!!"

I think it would be the ultimate link to exactly what the Reaper invasion is going to cost you, partiuclarly if it was an LI (probably not, though, so as not to alienate the fans who chose that LI). Still, with indoctrination running rife, if the scene was well done it would be a real heartbreaker - after spending all that time getting to know them and help, imagine having to choose to kill Samara, Kasumi or Grunt face-to-face or leave them free to act under Reaper control. All that time counselling his squad members and it comes down to the wire: it's easy to make a call when it isn't personal to you, such a Maelon, but can Shep keep his/her morals in mind when it gets personal to him.
I am really, really hoping for a scene where indoctrination and/or huskification takes your LI and you are forced to "free" them. I cant imagine a more emotionally gripping scene.
Shep: "But...our...little blue children..."
Liara: *gurgling noises as she tries to gnaw your face off*
Shep: *one tiny tear drop followed by the sound of a gat*
Shep: "Now there are two reasons!"
Emo Shep then proceeds to decimate each and every Reaper in existence as viciously as possible, before hooking up with Tali at the end of the game.

I loved ME2, but I will confess something I didn't like: it was possible to get the best of any situation. You could get everyone loyal. You could get everyone to survive. You could charm your way to a perfect run with no bad consequences, really. You can get Tali cleared of her charges AND keep her loyal and her father's secret safe. You could totally disagree with Mordin on the genophage and still keep his loyalty. You could cost Zaeed his long-sought revenge and he'd still be loyal.
I would have loved to make some genuine HARD choices. What if the only way to keep Zaeed loyal was to let innocent men burn to death? What if the only way to keep Tali loyal was to have her exiled from her people to protect her father? What if the only way to keep Mordin loyal was to agree the genophage was best for everyone? That would ensure the success of ME2... but in ME3, those decisions have bigger repercussions, with perhaps the Krogans rejecting your call to arms or the Quarians ignoring you for associating with a "traitor".
This. Exactly.
An interesting Shepard to me is one that isn't perfect or completely monotone (all paragorn or all renegade). I personally always play through ME2 with a mixed blue/red Shepard so when he's faced with some of the toughest descisions in the game (tali's loyalty, miranda/jack fight, Zaeed's loyalty, etc) I simply cannot make it all better. The first time I had to choose between miranda and jack's loyalty I chose to backup Jack and the cold shoulder I got from Miranda afterwards felt very real. I thought Miranda and Shepard were much stronger characters now that they had a fight. I like the idea of a capable, but still limited, Shepard saving the galaxy.
And so from this point of view I think a squadmate betrayal would make for a deeper connection to the characters and story. If we do get betrayed and have some level of control over who or if they actually betray us, that'd be awesome IMO.

You mean like Bastila, Wrex, and Morrigan? Like the old Bioware? So long as there were a way to avoid it or convince them otherwise then yea, they should do it.
I'd rather the character stay true to their beliefs and force the player to make a real choice. No "I win" button this time.

The big question here is who would be indoctrinated? Would it be a different person every time? Would it be based off of your Shepard's choices, or which squadmates they tend to use? Or would it be based off of the character's personality, preying on their weakness? If written well, I'd like to see this, but I'm rather curious as to how they'd decide who betrays you. And they'd better have a way to talk the indoctrinated squaddie down; otherwise the ragefest from the fans of said character would be incredible.
Actually, it might be better if Shepard is the one showing very mild signs of indoctrination, and the squadmates are the ones to pull him/her out of it. Then again, that might ****** off some people too.
...Let's just have Conrad betray us. Everyone's happy.

I'd rather have a character betray me if he/she really believed that that was the only choice.
Possible reasons?
1. VS
Shepard is too dangerous a person to remain alive. Received order to put Shepard down by
Admiral Hackett/Council-Udina once the Reaper threat is resolved.
Can be avoided if, during the course of the game, continous dialogue options convice the VS
to betray the Alliance/Council
* VS was adamant about being anti-Shepard in ME2, claiming devout loyalty to the Alliance
2. Vega
Same as VS.
* Vega suddenly joins Shepard's crew. Is an alliance soldier, possibly with special training. Why shadow Shepard?
3. Legion/Tali
Will betray Shepard if Shepard fails to resolve Geth-Quarian peace and sides with one of either side.
May be avoided by achieving peace.
4. Miranda/Jacob (to a lesser degree)
Believes in survival of humanity as primary goal. Virtually the next in line to be TIM.
Collects the remnants of Cerberus and tries to supplant the Alliance as the governing human
body (since the Alliance is now in shambles)
*can't seem to make this plot point work. However, Miranda does seem likely to be pitted against the VS in terms of how the Galaxy/humanity would go about post-Reaper
5. Wrex/Mordin
Genophage of the Krogan, obviously.
Krogans are needed to fight Reaper threat, but what about after that?
Krogans will obviously emerge as a superpower, evident in the improved natural breeding that is culminated in Wrex' political efforts and Grunt's physical self.
Must choose between Wrex and Mordin if fail to gain sufficient loyalty.
Those were some obvious possibilities.
Not saying that will happen. But it would be interesting if you would have to choose one of either.
(Personally, I felt the greatest wow-factor during ME1 when I had to choose Ashley or Kaiden. I remember pacing around the room when I first played it, going O ****. Not so much Anders, unfortunately, as I always tried to find a way to kill any resurgence of Carth/Anders/Alistair clones.)
