Looks like rewriting the heretics will backfire

It's also possible that this is Rannoch and is either an optional mission if you choose to side exclusively with the Quarians or it's part of the mission, fighting off a percentage of the Geth and Quarians who are open to war to allow peace with both.
As it stands though, we clearly saw Legion in another demo working alongside Shepard, driving that vehicle, so I doubt they are planning to make the geth turn 'OMGZ EVIIIILZ!!

Destroyed the Heretics? Remnants remain.
Rewrote them? Oh hey, you get a few geth allies for one mission!

Who is to say that vid comes from an imported Shep, and not just a generic new game with "canon Shep"? Dont forget that canon Shep killed the rachni, sacrificed the council, killed Wrex etc.

This...
They are still in creation / test mode, and I don't think they are using Imports for that.

They screwed themselves with ME2. There will be differences in ME3 based on your choices, but don't expect them to be major.

I'd go a step further and say the Heretic Geth decision has nothing to do with it and that these Geth belong to Cerberus(Project Overlord anyone?). They appear to have Cerberus markings after all....

I had been thinking Overlord also when I watched it...though my Shep took David Archer away...still, Cerberus probably still retains a lot of info from when it was active.

I wouldn't say that Bioware "screwed themselves" with ME2, but your later statements have been correct for the whole franchise.
We like to think the whole game is wide open, but there's only so much the developers can deal with. Both games so far have one ultimate objective. ME1 was Stop Saren, Kill Sovereign, and Save the Citadel. ME2 was Stop the Collectors and Save Human Colonists. In both games, those endings were achieved, paragon vs renegade was merely about how you went about achieving them, and was also a way to write the story with the kind of tone you prefer.
ME3 will likely be the same. Whatever the fate of Earth and the galaxy is is most likely the same whatever your decisions from previous games are. What will change is the way you achieve goals and the fate of your crewmembers.
I think Bioware, when they did ME1, really wanted it to be very wide open, but I suspect they realized too late that they'd bitten off a bit more than they could chew. The bottom line truth is that if you want the game to be completed in reasonable time and cost a reasonable amount of money, some things *have* to be handwaived a little bit. But they can still give the players the ability to set the tone of the game with their decisions (paragon vs renegade) which is perfectly fine and a nice feature.

I agree. What, anywhere, has suggested 'backfire' when not all Heretics were going to be removed anyway?Mesina2 wrote...

It would be kind of amusing if making all the "right" decisions in ME1 and 2 preempted half of ME3...

And that is why I rewrite the Geth, keep the Collector Base, and release the Rachni. :-)
I even have a RP reason for that- my Shepard is culturally somewhat Krogan. Her (my) biggest fear is running out of enemies to fight.

it would be nice if some paragon descsions have consequences. It would make Me3 the greatest game of all time! PARAGON FOR LIFE!
They will, there has been enough moaning about it that they'll do something, heck I'll even bet that all the whining won't really change much since we've yet to resolve any of the major P vs R choices save Wrex and the Council from the first game... unless you count the window dressing cameos and emails we got in ME2.
What I really want is something we all thought was irrelevant to bite us in the ass, something so minor that people will freak when the choice comes back to haunt us.
