I have this strange feeling that near the end of the game after the final boss fight, there is an inevitable scene wherein someone has to stay behind to do or activate something to destroy the Reapers. Then your LI springs out of nowhere and volunteers to sacrifice themselves? Thus, you are made to choose.

If ever this happens who would you choose? Your Shepard or your LI?

(If this does happen, I'm going to shed a tear. I can't bear to lose Shep or Miranda )

I'd rather save Shepard, obviously. LI can be replaced rather easily anyway.

I'd let Shep die. Thane'll be joining her shortly afterwards, and she's selfish enough that she doesn't want to go through the pain of losing him.

My Shepard would sooner die than sacrifice Garrus. She'd tell him not to do something stupid this time like another suicide run on Omega, then shove him onto the shuttle or whatever it is and take the hit.

I wouldn't hesitate to save Garrus or Thane (or Tali?). I'd be sad, knowing that I'd make them sad, but... Well, I just can't let them die.

I didn't get this ending in ME2, but I have seen the whole squad die. That was painful to watch. Very painful. Even if my squad mates are prepared to die (I think it was plainly obvious to all of them that saving the galaxy is rarely a safe undertaking), I still wouldn't want them dying. Even if one of them is nearing old age anyway, or is soon to die of a respiratory illness, or something... I mean we've been through a lot. I can't just let a friend die.

As a male and commander of the mission I would feel compelled to stay behind and let my girlfriend and crew escape similar to what happened at the beginning of ME2. You know the terms "Women and children to the lifeboats first" and "A good captain goes down with his ship." Being a man is basically a death sentence <_<

TBH I would be surprised if the male LI would let a female Shepard stay behind. I dunno, I would expect him to knock her out or something and die in her place. Sorta like how in DAO Alistair ignores the female Warden's command to stand down and sacrifices his life so she doesn't have to.

If my LI did that femShep would go renegade and tell them to take orders that their superior gives them. She might also punch him and make the other squadmates drag him to safety while unconscious.

Forget chivalry. We're talking about Commander Bleeping Shepard. She headbutted a krogan, she can and will take her man down if she has to.

If someone has to stay behind... I nominate Conrad Vernor. I'd just tell him "don't worry, everything's gonna be okay"... and he pushes the button, blows up, and they erect a nice shiny statue in his honor while his wife goes "I believe in him all along", Blasto the Jellyfish puts fresh flowers on his grave while taps play, the Volus biotic leads a parade in his honor, and the Turian councilman fingers-quotes during a speech about his valor going "Ah, yes, "Conrad Vernor", the immortal hero who saved all of space. We have dismissed this claim" while the Asari bartender sends a Singularity up his rear.

There can be no other outcome, really.

Definitely. My Shepard would never let Liara die when it could have been him.

If Bioware decided to be soap opera cheesy, Miranda will suddenly by a miracle be cured of her infertility during the epilogue after Shep's sacrifice. Introducing your hero for the next trilogy, John Lawson Shepard.

But on a serious note, my first playthrough would never be full paragon or renegade but if this happens I will sacrifice my Shep's life for only three LIs... Miranda, Liara and Kaidan. Still thinking about Jack, if Shep would die for her.

Shepard. When he writes his biography he will say he tried to toss himself in front of the blast, but didn't make it in time.

I don't want to have that choice in Mass Effect 3. There are going to be multiple scenerios/endings and I don't think one like that (choosing between shepard and his/her LI) will be forced. I'd like my Shepard to be able to go above and beyond to save as many people as possible and still survive to fight/love another day. Can't I have my cake and eat it too? =P

I would choose my Shep if I had to.

My shepard already lost his LI on Virmire, So, for me, the choice will be simple.

Ashley did what needed to be done. Now it's Shepard's turn.

Would be interesting but how does it work if you have no LI? Out of my 5 play throughs I only have 1 with a LI, so how would they work the decision?

Probably Virmire Survivor would step up to take what they feel should have been their fate back on Virmire. Survivor's guilt and a chance to redeem themselves.

They probably do some cliche where all your squadmates work together to save you and get the job done.
And nobody dies. Gotta have something for the no-mancers... nobody-mancers?, no-mancers?
